I love the Key/Keyed/Button Fiddle/Harp (Nyckelharpa)
Such a nice sound.
Thank you! I love it as well! :)

Man känner sig lite patriotisk när man hör en Nyckelharpa!
Magnifique, bravo et merci from France
Merci beaucoup! ☺
A haunting melody and plaintive, stunning arrangement. Bravo!
Thank you, Mary! :)
Hejjjjjj I know this tune! 😂
Why is it that the Hurdy and the Harpa sound so alike? I'm an untrained ear so forgive me if that sounds a little ignorant of me. Its just subtleties that I can hear.
No need to apologize, I think it's a good question! Both instruments are bowed instruments (on the hurdy gurdy, the wheel bows the strings), so the general sound characteristic is quite similar. However, I think both instruments actually sound quite different, but these things are often difficult to hear if you haven't heard both instruments alone, so it might also be difficult to say which sound comes from which instrument. In this video, both instruments are also playing in a similar range, the melodies I'm playing on both instruments are quite close together. That can also make it more difficult to hear each instrument individually. The way I mixed the track might also contribute to that, unfortunately I'm not really a professional sound technician ;)
They sound alike, but Hurdy-Gurdies usually have a drone too, which makes it sound a bit similar to a bagpipe, and a buzzing sound. because of a small piece on it's side. You can hear the buzzing in the later parts of the video.
You can tell a hurdy gurdy by the characteristic buzzing sound. That said, I do find the two fairly similar and in earlier parts of the song I was thinking about how the hurdy gurdy blended in to the nyckelharpa
þú skapar mjǫk góðir sǫngvar!
Thank you! :) Glad you liked the video!
what is the hurdy gurdy tune of melody string and drone?
All strings (drone, melody, trumpette) I'm playing here on the hurdy gurdy are G strings :)
Thankfully not a patty gurdy tune, but something far more authentic.
