    Hello bro
    I have a question please!
    I bought a Canon R7 camera and the RF800 / F11 lens with it
    And the camera that I bought is just a body
    And I bought a card for it 128 GB // 300 MB / s / V90
    First, how can I adjust the lens settings on the camera so that I can photograph?
    Would you recommend this card to me? Does it work well on this camera and shoot in high resolution and quickly, or not?
    Because I think it was the most expensive card in sales, it cost me $200
    Thank you very much

    • @Duade
      @Duade  Год назад +1

      G'day, yes, that memory card is the fastest SD card available and will clear the buffer quickly when shooting in h+ mode. The lens has a fixed aperture of f11 which you cannot change, probably best to use Auto ISO and then adjust the SS to suit. Good luck, Cheers, Duade

      @@Duade Hello Bro
      First, I thank you very much for your reply and for helping me
      And I set the settings as you told me in the instructions
      But when I press the shoot button it tells me
      1) Update the lens firmware
      2) A memory card containing the necessary firmware for the update
      3) Set the lens to shooting mode
      So it tells me every time I press the button to take pictures, what do I do?

      Yes Bro
      I opened the lens and tried to take pictures
      But the images are not very clear, or sometimes nothing appears when taking pictures and videos

      Can you help me and write me the imaging settings

    I am an R5 wildlife shooter. I also use Olympus for the pro-capture function. It looks like the R7 does pre-capture. This could be a winner for me to finally move over to Canon completely. Hopefully this is also something that they might add to the R5 in a future firmware update. It's a function that gets me shots I would never get without it!

    Great video, Duade. We ordered two in my household. Like you, I plan on shooting mechanical shutter 15fps and CRAW. I think the buffer will be more than enough when using those settings.. My biggest worry is high ISO performance. But, I'll probably be all but retiring my 1.4x extender. At least on the 800 f/11. I may still use it on the 100-500 some. Still, my ISO will be much lower with this camera because I don't have to use the extender. Hopefully, adobe will get raw support to us quickly. I think the control layout is going to be fine for my uses. I love the new on-off switch with a third setting for video. Much easier than my R6. Thanks, Duade.

      @Duade  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Zsolt, yes that is my fear also, I suspect it will be almost identical to the 90D which means probably a stop and half worse then the R5. I think the other big issue with the R7 will be how the sensor performs when underexposed. Most modern sensors have some ISO invariance meaning they are very forgiving, however all of Canons APSC sensors have been terrible for shadow noise when you underexpose. I will be sure to test this all out. Cheers, Duade

I’ve been shooting with a 70D and a 400 5.6, so no IS at all. I am also often in very low light situations (rainforest), which has been a massive struggle. This will be game changing. Also, money saved on the body makes the 100-500 more attainable. I’m so excited for this camera!

      Gary, I think it will be identical to the 90D in terms of noise, so 3200 with 6400 at a stretch. The biggest issue with these older Canon sensors is when you underexpose they have a lot of shadow noise. I look forward to trying it when I get it. Cheers, Duade

    I used cropped sensors since my first digital body, the 20D. That was purely for cost reasons. After many years I bought a 6D body to get better low light performance whilst shooting badgers in woodland at dusk. I loved the results with the 6D so much that I sold my soul and bought a 5D mk iv as well. Fantastic quality and I was extremely happy with my set up. The only fly in the ointment being that sometimes in the heat of the moment when using both bodies with different lenses I would get the differing controls mixed up and subsequently miss images.
    Finally realising that mirrorless was the only way forward I sold the 5D to help fund an R6 body. Fantastic. Love it. The only problem being an even greater disparity of controls when shooting with both bodies (R6 and 6D). I recently broke my piggy bank, sold the 6D (for a ridiculously poor price) and bought a second R6 body. Happy man!
    Will I buy an R7? No. If it had been launched prior to the R6? Doubtful. The price and the specification is extremely tempting but I feel that as good as it is it doesn't fully sit in the same position as the 7D mk ii did (I previously owned both the 7D and the mk ii).
    Problems for me....? The new control layout would take more getting used to and in fairness that would be the same as with other new bodies although on the plus side the price would mean being able to afford two bodies.
    The main reason however is I would feel that I was taking a backward step in image quality. Whatever the science says, from my own experience, I see an improvement in the quality of my final images when shooting FF over an APSC camera.
    For someone starting in mirrorless it looks a good buy but the buffer limitations will limit its versatility and which is why I don't think it is a true replacement for the DSLR 7D mk ii.
    Great video as always.

    • @Duade
      @Duade  2 года назад +3

      Thanks Robert, yes I agree, if you can afford FF then the images do look better, the R7 will struggle in low light and if you have to crop heavily. I'm glad to hear you are enjoying your R6's. Cheers, Duade

      @@oldtimer5045 the R6 is a great camera. A game changer for me when used for wildlife and sport. I have previously used the original 7D and the mk ii. Both were what I would consider pro level APSC bodies but from what I have seen and heard of the R7 I don't believe it can be considered in the same way.
      For me, the R6 combines the best of my previous FF bodies with the best attributes of my 7D mk ii. A bit pricier than the R7 but well worth it in my opinion.

      @@robertlawrence7958 was wondering if you use an extender and if so what do you think? currently using a 100-400ii so a ff is going to hurt. do have a sigma 150-600 c. maybe it would do better with r6 than the 7dii?

    • @robertlawrence7958
      @robertlawrence7958 2 года назад +3

      @@oldtimer5045 The 100-400 has probably been my favourite Canon lens of all time and remains so. Yes, it is noticeably shorter on a FF body but as with so many things in photography it totally depends on your personal requirements.
      Being nearer to 67 than 66 I did my learning in the 'bad old days' of film and 'coke bottle lenses' where adding an extender was just a matter of accentuating all the faults of the lens and so was pretty much a no go unless an absolute necessity. It was always forced home to me that if you constantly needed to add an extender then you really needed to buy a bigger lens. And that was with prime telephoto lenses: it was almost unheard of to use an extender on a zoom!! This has always been my ingrained default thinking over the years but technology has changed / improved a vast amount lately and I have to say that image quality with an extender is actually very good now. Would I still prefer to use a longer focal length lens.... yes, 100%, but I wouldn't be afraid to use an extender if I had to. On the R6 a 1.4x gives you around 560mm of reach which is perfect for a lot of wildlife. I have a friend who uses a Sigma 150-600 and gets excellent quality images but I have never tried one myself.
      I am extremely fortunate to have the use of an 800mm lens which, whilst being a superbly sharp, long reaching lens, its an absolute pain in the arse to carry around and even with that beast it is still often not long enough. The greatest lesson I have learned in wildlife photography is to be content with the kit I can afford at the time and make it work for me until such time as I can afford better. If the lens isn't long enough I try to get closer and most importantly, recognise when getting a decent image just isn't possible with whatever kit I have.

      I doubt very much you will get near 280 on the camera. alikgriffin has done extensive tests with V60 and V90 (on R6) and expect these to be similar to R7, they got around 180 mb/s for the best cards. My guess is the R7 has a 1 Gig buffer (I believe R6 has this also). This means buffer clearance in 5.5secs, but of course it can take shots well before this. Nicolaas, congrats on the pre-order. Noise will be an issue with this body so we may have to shoot at lower SS to get that ISO down. Also exposing to the right will be important. Will be using it with the adaptor for my ef/ef-s lenses, so should be very interesting with the Tamron 150-600 GII and Canon 10-400 mm MKII. Looking forward to it. It should work fine on your 500, the AF will be an improvement, I am unsure how the mechanical shutter will work on the version 1 500 and if it will be crippled like the R5 and R6, you will still get full electronic shutter however. Cheers, Duade

    Informative video once again Duade. I'm not considering the R7 but as I am relatively new to photography I really enjoy learning more about it, and I appreciate your approach and delivery. This camera seems to tick a lot of boxes and is pretty cheap too. The combination of the R3 AF system, 32MP cropped sensor and RF 100-500 is very tantalising. I am thinking it will be a great second body to have with my 100-500 in a cotton carrier, leaving my 500 f4 on the R5 on my Benro monopod and Wimberly mono-gimble. Looking forward to your review. I’m an R6 user with the sigma 150/600 contemporary and I’d hoped that the r7 would be a great option but I’m concerned after listening to Jan about the button rejig and the lower quality EVF. I await your considered opinion as always Duade. Cheers. Paul.

      Hi Paul! Just a question.. Does sigma work fine on R6? Image quality wise and autofocus? does eye tracking work fine ?

    • @paulfrancis7207
      @paulfrancis7207 2 года назад +3

      @@ikaragiannis_7131 absolutely. I tested ef100-400, sigma 150/600 sport and the contemporary. And all worked perfectly on the r6. I get super sharp shots and since firmware 1.52 on the r6 eye tracking is very sticky. Only zoom lens I’ve found better is the RF100-500.

      The lens does work well on the mirrorless bodies but there are AF inconsistencies in AI Servo Eye tracking mode. It does not happen all the time but the AF pulsing is an issue that Sigma have acknowledged. Cheers, Duade

      Thanks Paul, great to hear the R6 and Sigma are working well for you, it appears the AF issues impact some people more than others, so it appears you are one of the lucky ones. Yes the button layout, buffer and EVF are all things I will be trying out. Cheers, Duade

    I'm mostly worried about the ISO performance. With the slow 100-500 here in Sweden (often very dark) it's not uncommon for the ISO to land on 12.800 and I wonder how that will look on the R7's sensor. I hope you will make some testing in less than optimal light, to see the result in high ISO. (Go DARK, Duade!)

    • @Duade

      Yes, the ISO handling will be interesting, I will be sure to try and test in low light to see how it goes. Cheers, Duade

      I use an M6 II with a 32.5 MP APSC sensor and 14 FPS, which is very similar to an R7 without bird's eye auto focus or IBIS. For wildlife, I use a Tamron 100-400 (f4.5-6.3) and a Sigma 150-600 zoom (F5.6-6.3), and I swear I have never had so much fun with a camera. I also find the noise to be minimal at ISO 6400. However, at 12800, there certainly is noise, which I find excessive. But I've recently purchased "AI based" de-noising software (DXO) for my CRAW files, and even my ISO 12800 images are turning out quite nicely.

      It seems like the sensor is based on the one used in the 90D

    • @wellingtoncrescent2480
      @wellingtoncrescent2480 2 года назад

      @@Knowbody42 The 90D and the M6 II share a 32.5 MP sensor and many other features, including their DIGIC 8 processor (the M6 II is essentially the mirrorless version of the 90D, and is more aptly described as the precursor to the R7 in frames per second, buffering, etc). Despite the similarity in specs, Canon claims that the R3 and R7 are not using the same sensor technology as the D90/M6 II, though I'm not sure if they're simply referring to the new DIGIC X processor.

      I would never shoot at 12,800 iso. Doesn't matter the camera. Get more light or a faster lens. Heck, I shoot the Milky Way on a moonless night at 6400 iso!!

    Duade, I love my R7! Love your videos too! I use it for mostly wildlife here in New England. Still trying to figure out best AF settings. Coming from 7D ii (which I still love!). Hope some kind of grip add on available soon. miss the grabbing power of 7D with vertical grip. Keep up the videos!

    I think the R7 is going to be the most incredible crop sensor nature and wildlife camera ever. Even with the short buffer, when I'm shooting C-raw and just hitting short bursts of 1-2 seconds I'll still get get 15 to 60 shots or so using mechanical or electronic shutter without buffering issues. At that price I think it's just a fantastic bargain and I can't wait to add it to my kit. Then I'll have to see if I need to keep the R6! I have an A7iv with the big 200-600mm so I kind of have that full frame end covered. The R7 with the rf100-400mm is going to be the greatest lightweight, quality and price value nature combo out there.
    Thanks for your videos and information and best of luck to you!

    Thnx for doing the video and ordering so you can give a review of the actual camera. Have been waiting for the R7 to replace my 7Dii. However am not jumping in even though it is only "1500 us". I can wait a while to see how it really works and how good the sensor really is. Light is always my issue. I would use it with an EF 100-400ii or Sigma 150-600 C.

    I’d like to try videoing birds in short segments of around 5 secs or so. But have no idea of video settings on the r6, how you actually focus and record whilst videoing, and how you post process a video. I’m hoping you will consider this as a possible topic for the future?

    Great video! I just subscribed even though I imagine that I’m a bit different from most of your subscribers, since the “birds” that I photograph fly at close to 700 mph at times! They’re US Navy F18 SuperHornets assigned the the Blue Angels flight demonstration squadron. I live close to Pensacola, FL where they’re based and get to photograph their practices and shows often.
    I’ve been photographing them with my 80D body paired with the EF 100-400mm L II and it’s a good combo. But I’m thinking the R7 will take things to a whole new level and I can’t wait to give it a try! Thanks again for your great video, it kinda makes me wish we had Kangaroos here on the Gulf Coast, lol.
