Thanks a ton for these videos dude. Nothing else like it anywhere on the Internet. I report for phase I in March, super pumped.
Thanks for the support
How about a video on defining the type of ships used during your training
Prior Navy, worked in 1200 &600 psi, engine rooms & auxiliary rooms.
As far as I’m aware you still will need classes unless you have certified endorsements showing both your knowledge AND sea time. Not just time served in the Navy, you’ll need actual discharge paperwork of sea days.
@@northwestsailor526 jets I have 8 years of actual sea time.
Good Info
Hey what are details and how do they work? Are they paid details?
Great video bro. My question is how hard would you say the Tanker assist lg/gd tests are?
It’s been like 5 years since I took them. But I don’t remember them being to hard. I’m re-taking the class actually in a month or so since I never ended up on a tanker in my first 5 years the endorsements expired on me.
What knots do you need to know for third phase test?
It’s been awhile now. I believe you just have to be able to do 7 knots. I don’t remember them being super specific. Check out my “knots playlist”.
Two questions. 1) You said in another video it was one year until you get your license. Is it one year or a year and a half to complete the program to acquire license? 2) You also said in another video that once you get your license that you get boosted from entry level to a class B license. What is a class B license mean, and how does it affect your pay?
Good catch. It took me a year and a half but I had a couple months of vacation between classes. 1 year of classes total. Year and a half stretched by choice. Class B.. actually B-book. With the union there’s A,B,C books. Doesn’t effect pay, it’s seniority on jobs.
@@northwestsailor526 Okay thanks brother 👊😎 So what are the class A, B, C ranks, and how does the scale go as far as least to greatest rank?
Were you paid is phase three?
How much money should you have to keep you going thru all the phases?
Do you now any retired military 5hatbwent through the siu apprentice program
Wassup bro! Hey when do you actually start making the legit money?
Once you get to 4th phase.
Ohh ok. And is that the money youll be making once you actually finish the program or will you start making more?
More. 4th phase you’ll be working entry level Os/wiper/sa. Once you finish the program you’ll be making roughly 1k more a month.
Self Building Sailor ohhh ok cool! Thanks bro! I got more questions but iont wanna overload you lol
Appreciate it. Ask away though! Just ask on other videos so I get the traffic! 😬
Are the phases back to back?
Do you have to go to a academy after you get your Z card?
No. You can pay out of pocket and take the necessary classes anywhere. It doesn’t have to be an academy. You can take the bare minimum STCW classes and get hired on to small tugs and ferries.
Glade the Union offer cheap hotel or motel. Or might end up homeless lol
Bro did you have to cut your beard and i wanna do this so bad man I’m 28 trying to find a career path but what would i do about my car note
Yes you have to be clean cut until phase 5 of the program. Leave your car with family/friends/ storage. It’s not like your never coming home again. You’ll still want a car.
Northwest Sailor ok thanks man lol i was worried about my beard but will i make money to able to still pay my car note while I’m in the school
James Smith oh yes, you will have to cut your beard. “Clean cut” is baby faced. You’ll need to have at least 10 months of car payments payed in advance or set aside because you won’t make really anything till 4th phase.
Northwest Sailor so when phase 4 come how much will i make and would it be consistent pay afterwards
James Smith Not a answer I can give. How consistently will you sail? Where do you live? What kind of ships are in your area? Location of the union hall, the company of the ship, the contract of the ship, and the type of ship will all depend on what you’ll be paid.
👍
What did the test consist of? TIA
Phase 3 test? For deck it’s Tanker assist lg/dg which the yes is more or less making sure you know how to use the safety manuals correctly if spills occur. And the. RFPNW - The test consists of coast guard test questions in a few subjects. Mainly deck, and rules of the road. There’s also some hands on exams involving knot tying and simulator steering of various vessels.
After how long do you get to come home?
It use to be 6 months. Ask your boyfriend how long the phases are now. Phase 1 might only be 2 months.. ?
@@northwestsailor526 i think its 15 weeks then 90 days
@@basicallygabyy Yeah. Should be roughly 6 months then.
@@northwestsailor526 Thank you for all the answers I appreciate it. My boyfriend has been there for a week its an adjustment.
@@basicallygabyy If your local you can visit him the last Sunday of the month. Or you can send him some care packages. … my grandma sent me cookies as a surprise once haha. Made my entire day!
Can I work with msc as an AB with the training from siu
Yes, but I would say apply into the MSC if that's what you want. The MSC will provide the training you need. And the contracts I've been told are minimum 5/6 months and I've heard of guys staying on as long as 11 months. You'll get your sea days needed to become and AB faster than going in SIU. The only down side is the contracts are so long and when the MSC calls you 2 weeks into your 2 month vacation and tell you they need you back on the ship you have no choice. It's back to the ship.
Hey is it an 18 month program?
Matters how you look at it. Between all 5 phases there’s a total of 12/13 months. BUT when you’re done with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th phase you don’t just roll into the next phase if that class hasn’t started or if the class is already full. So expecting a month or so between those 3 phases you could be looking anywhere around 15/18 months. Took me 16 because I chose to vacation between phase 2,3 and 5.
Are the classes hard I leave in February
Not if you pay attention in class, study, and want to pass the finish line.
