May the deceased Rest In Peace. May the injur recover. And may the police, law and security services find all those responsible and serve justice! Thank you to the brave emergency services who responded, as they do every day all year round, to keep us safe, to protect us from harm and to save/treat us when all does go wrong. I disagree i would feel safer with armed public more than armed police. people have a right to defend themselves. if someone pulls a gun or knife on you good luck yelling for help. if people want to kill large amounts of people indiscriminately they can do it easy enough, especially if the victims are unarmed. Mobius One In 1982 the IRA detonated a bomb in Hyde Park, killing and wounding many of the guards and their horses. Since then, they have had police protection. With them being mounted, the worry is, if an active shooting scenario, or suicide bomber targeted them, the police would engage to eliminate the threat. It's very difficult to dismount from a horse in full regimental ceremonial dress, then try to protect yourself. Especially considering they are only armed with a sword! Hope this helps mate.
They guards need protection because the guards at the palace and on horseback are mostly ceremonial. The Queen has police close protection and private bodyguards who truly guard her.
I think there are units of regular armed police that use the MP7 as well. If you ask me they are not the right choice for police use. They use a 4,6x30mm high velocity round that was originally developed to allow rear echelon soldiers (like tank crews, truck drivers etc.) to have a weapon that was capable of penetrating soft body armor. I think it is very doubtful that these police constables will ever encounter a situation where this capability would be necessary. On the other hand the projectile is very light and has a tiny crosssection, which leads to an immense decrease in stopping power on non vital hits. I think the british police would be better of just issuing 9x19mm submachine guns. That would keep cost down (procuring the weapons themselves and the ammo) and they are probably the most effective weapon system for inner city police use.
Maybe it's me, but wasn't that the RAF? And it certainly wasn't the Queen's Guards, I would see them as Grenadiers, Coldstream Guards, Scots Guards, Irish Guards and Welsh guards. Also Gentlemen at Arms and the household cavalry.

@tvercetti1 those are exclusively for armed units around the entire uk. Lived there for a while so i know my met cars.
The most senior regt in the British army are the Coldstream Guards
For the man in the dark blue uniform he is not part of the army he is actually an airman in the RAF so please get it correct next time
Maybe it's me, but wasn't that the RAF? And it certainly wasn't the Queen's Guards, I would see them as Grenadiers, Coldstream Guards, Scots Guards, Irish Guards and Welsh guards. Also Gentlemen at Arms and the household cavalry.
