I need to correct something - in the video I mention how the dustin francis perhaps looks too much like a real fuzz face… it turns out that is because he takes real ones and mods them! Also to add I love every pedal in this vid and recommend them all tbh, all depending on what you need and the price point. I hope you love fuzz! I’ve put some longer than normal playing clips in and left some of what would often be out takes, mainly because you can then see more about how I am getting on with a pedal. Cheers!
Thanks James! your last videos are really over the top!!! all are very good fuzzes…but from this video I really like the Zoink, the Silktone and the Rift!!!
Great stuff. Love Fuzz. I’m currently playing the Reeves IZ Facet and the KingTone Mini Fuzz v2. Both are terrific. Also, it’s just a number, but early congrats on reaching 10K subs.
@@Stratpack59 I play single coils into clean amps-The KingTone mini is just the most versatile fuzz I own. It’s the one pedal I would have on any board I build, and if I had to pick just one pedal to try and do everything it would be my choice. The Facet is, at least in my estimation, a really great fuzz face with a more aggressive growl (I do run the tone on the low side, so maybe that accounts for some of that).
Thanks mate. Great video as always. While you are at... I am curious about the KingTone minifuzz v2. It seems that it has lots of really great tone and that bias switch! I have a JHS Mini Foot fuzz you ought to try it. It is such a great pedal in such a small footprint 🙂
For the tight knob on the silktone, occasionally the knob has just been pushed too far down on the shaft. Try loosening it off with an Allen key or screwdriver (whatever it needs), pull it up by a millimetre and retighten. Worth trying before replacing the pot
Hi - thanks! With an sm57 on the front close up centred to the cone, a sontronics delta 2 ribbon about 12 inches away at a slight angle off centre. Then an akg c414 in the room and a ua sphere dlx also in the room emulating a royer 121. Then all into an apollo 8xp using unison preamps. Cheers

@@JamesOnGuitar Thank you, that explains a lot! The results is awesome, nice set up!
Good stuff! My favorite two fuzz pedals are the Analogman Sun Face and the Wolf Note Over Fuzz pedal. The Sun Face is really gritty, so it doesn’t flub out as much as a Big Muff style fuzz. The Wolf Note has a blend knob between fuzz and OD, so you can dial in whichever style fuzz you like more (Big Muff vs Fuzz Face vs Tone Bender, or anything in between)
Oh man, that Dustin Francis is the fuzz sound I hear in my head. Wish they weren’t so hard to get and so $$$! Killer sound and amazing collection of fuzz pedals!
James thanks, you made spectacular an analysis again! However, I would liked to see '' Chase Bliss ZVEX - Bliss Factory '' also!.. Because it is a different approach and versatile... Your honest analysis is important.
Well I don’t currently have a board but I do demo’s on youtube and Instagram more and more using guitars and amps leant to me - so rather than just having to set up a rig each time I want to make a board for it and save time and have my own sound. I’ll take your question at face value - you don’t have to be playing live or recording an album to have a pedalboard 😂
@@JamesOnGuitar I absolutely agree with you. I was just curious if you had a specific purpose. I have two boards - one for my cover band that can get any sound I need with switching and MIDI, and the second for at-home use and random creativity. Great stuff in this video. Cheers.
Fair enough! Wasn’t sure which way you were going with the question (i’m too used to dealing with trolls!). After these years of tone searching I really do want to sort of solidify my current sound and the way i play for a while by going steady with it for a while 😃 cheers!
This is my favorite video of yours so far. We play a very similar style and have an eerily similar fuzz collection. Awesome to see you keep growing, your tone and phrasing gets better every video. How do you like the Starwood compared to the vintage deluxe for these kind of tones? It seems like they are really similar in size and tone, what have you noticed?
Love Fuzz, only discovered it a few years ago Fulltone ‘69 on the board at the moment. Also a big fan of the very affordable DOD. Carcosa which can do a lot of sounds. Also have a Fulltone 70 and a Chase Bliss Red Velvet Fuzz. I really dig the Bigfoot King Fuzz-it’s a little closer to a distortion, or rather, it goes from mid overdrive to fuzz with lots of good tones on the gain control (and responds well to guitar volume)
Someone may have already mentioned it, but it was Vic Flick (I think hats how you spell it) the guy that did the James Bond theme that asked Gary Hurst to modify his Gibson Maestro Fuzz Tone......at least that is what Hurst said.

I have the Kingtone and I’m looking at the Facet IZ as well. How do you feel they compare?

Can you demo the Fish Circuits Lunatique fuzz pedal, James? Cheers. Great demo btw.

Actually, a couple of sun face fuzzes added to the comparison would be great too!
👍🏿🤘Great video. I adore fuzz but, man, just that guitar and amp combo. Wow. Also, if a fuzz doesn’t trigger a descent into madness, is it any good?
Kingtone miniFuzz v2 is a serious pedal as well! You don’t have the dandrive anymore? Or the mini fuzzes?

Great insight. SUBSCRIBED!!!
MKI doesn’t react well to having the volume rolled back, for full sustain you need the volume up. Try the Zonk setting with some humbuckers! ❤
How did you record the Bartel? Mics? IRS? The recording sound of this video is really good! Well done.

Great. Is the Zoink standard tuning or the DB ?

'66 or '68 IVOR ? Also, what happened to the Dan Drive ? Great job !
Poor Jext is James,s red headed step child 😂
What color is your strat? it looks like an aged Dick Dale surf yellow green?
What a fantastic video have a wonderful weekend James ❤😊
Didn’t realise you had an Acid Fuzz, got my eye on one of those 🤘🏻
I'm sorry if I missed it, but what is the purpose of this version of your board? Are you doing covers, originals, or something different altogether?

You should check out some big muff style pedals!!! Would love to see your input on them

my 3 would be: Haze67 ; Reeves ZO ; Seeker MK1
Very nice choice!
My fav in your demo is the SM Fuzz
Where did you get this focus fuzz GE 😮? I look for one for weeks now 😢
Love Fuzz, only discovered it a few years ago

You're making me feel better about owning only six fuzz pedals. Great video.
Isle of tone and SM for me! I have a Argonaut + Chase Tone Red Velvet on my board and they are the real deal!
I love my two JHS fuzz. Bender and Smiley
Oh man.. the Strat & the Starwood are the real stars here… shit
I cannot disagree!! love 'em
Isle of Tone = Jimi Love it!!!

Really like the Charlie 1.5, it has the thing…
please play and hold/ride a chord now and then for the rhythm folks.
I have 18 fuzz pedals on my board.
😂 please show us 😃
Good gawd this guy drones on! Just F’n PLAY so WE can hear, and decide for ourselves!
