As per usual, ya boii fucked up some crucial details, see I fkn THOUGHT it was two new The Cure albums and a solo release before I filmed this, then got confused when I was recording and assumed it couldn't be TWO new Cure albums so said it was one of each.. -.- It's two, interview mentioning that as well as several other interviews relating to this track and Bobert Smyff in the description.
I stumbled upon this like 2 years after it came out and it has become one of my favorite songs of all time. The hook of that chorus just floors me every time.
Finally getting around to watching/listening to this. Alas I didn't see the poll and I'm not sure how I could've missed it, but I'm pretty confident I would've voted for a reaction/review on this song primarily because I think it's of pretty significant interest to the goth community because of Bobert's involvement and the fact Screen Violence is seen as one of the most anticipated albums of the year by quite a few alt folks, even if it might be on the poppier side (I'm also a fan both of this band and indie pop in general, which is where the soyboi part of me surfaces :P ). Also, this is my first time hearing this song too so we're discovering it together! I don't mind it, it's pretty solid Chvrches fare musically, and the lyrics certainly strike a bit of a personal chord. Atmospherically there's a bit of a resemblance to the Cure's Wish album too I reckon, though that might be just me. It's not a song I would play endlessly on repeat but I'm also not gonna skip it if I'm listening to music on shuffle or something. Great work m8

Completely agree. It's a 98% a Cure song copy with 3% of the great voice by Robert Smith. Imagine if the song were 100% Robert it would be a awesome song.
I think the song was supposed to be a little nod to The Cure sound since he was going to be featured. Their album Screen Violence does carry a little more darker sound compared to their previous works though.
CHVRCHES sent him multiple tracts to choose from to collaborate. He chose this one. Listen to it a few more times and it you will fall in love with this band. Check out their other songs.

I'm 53 and have grown out of bands like Metallica, Maiden, Osbourne, Black Sabbath, The Doors, (the first goth rock band ever) and listen to more pagan folk metal like Amorphis, Arkona, Grai, Filement, Insomniom, Orphanland, and many other NONE American bands that sign contracts with major labels. Labels that dictate what the artists can and can't sing. I happen to love this song. I went ape shit over Robert Smith being part of this. Even though I'm not that huge of a Cure fan. I just like his voice with Lauren's. To each his/her own of course.
I didn't mean to imply only teens would enjoy it, I have friends of many ages who like this band and their music, it just has elements similar to music many largely younger people are finding to their liking these days. (=
This is the first time I've caught your reactions I'm a brotha from Texas.....Sometimes I write essays to reactors (lol) but, I'll keep this very minimum.....I'm close to Robert Smith's age and have been what I call a "peripheral" fan of The Cure since the beginning..(I never owned an album) but, saw them live and even saw Robert when he replaced the guitar player in Siouxsie and the Banshees which was awesome..he didnt sing!!!?? Crazy!! ..anyway to the song....my biggest issue with the HNTD joint was how dry and low he was in the mix compared to how LM was...it actually got on my damn nerves being he was featured and their dream collaboration.....ridiculous IMO....It gave me chills when the icon shows up in the video but, I cant hear him!
Yeah not sure what they were doing there, perhaps not wanting to be overshadowed, or maybe he requested he not have too bright a spotlight on his contribution? He shone with what he did have on offer for the track though, which isn't surprising!

Lauren Mayberry is 33, so it will be interesting to see if her style develops. The first 2 Chvrches records were more synthwave. Still pop, but not as pop as their last record. I fear that they are getting a bit too Taylor Swift for me.
