26:10 I think we are supposed to think about what was on the page. Rhaenyra said after ripping it out now you’ll remember it forever. The page was Nymaria fleeing from the Valyrian’s. She’s telling Rhaenyra to take her family and run.

Yeah, I really like how characters are changing after the time skips, and even changing off-screen. Character development can be implied when the audience is invested.

strongly agree that there needs to be some kind of human intervention to hatch dragons. if they could hatch themselves, i feel like there’s no reason they wouldn’t be the apex predators everywhere, eating people and making human settlement difficult, because any livestock farming and any large gathering of ppl into a town will look like a big dragon happy meal. i like the idea that the tales of valyrian genetic tinkering with dragons and wyrms is partially based on them using magic/selective breeding to create dragons from fire wyrms. it would explain where the dragons came from if they can’t reproduce on their own in the wild. i always read nagas bones as the fossil of some gigantic prehistoric whale ribs or something, and i think the myths of westerosi dragons may be based on ancient dragon riders visiting from asshai (which i believe may also be the roots of house dayne.) it makes sense to me that the asshai’i had already created dragons in the east far before the targaryens created some.

I thought the whole point with Dany's dragon eggs is that they were petrified - they had turned to stone because they were so old (maybe even thousands of years..) - and that is why she needed blood magic to make them hatch. Death had to pay for life because there was none in the stone eggs. I mean it all ties into the AA prophecy.
Presumably in the HOD, the dragon eggs are just normal one's - that have life in them so no blood magic is needed. Other conditions might be necessary but not death to pay for life.

I think GRRM is closer to von Baer's laws of embryology (mainly: the stages embryos pass through during ontogeny never represent adult forms of other animals, they represent embryonic stages of other animals). But there's smth going on. ^^
On the other hand the idea of "humanesque blastocysts" comes to mind - the research started in 1950s and now it appears it's possible to create part-human animals or part-animal humans.
In 2007 the HFEA (Human Embryology and Fertilisation Authority) published its report titled "Hybrids and Chimeras: A report on the findings of the consultation" - the report states that the HFEA found no reason to prohibit the development of blastocysts using human cellular or genetic material as long as the research is necessary, ethical, and adheres to a strict code of practice, but now it's prohibited to grow such embryos to birth.
GRRM might take an idea of the procedure between different species (since the 1950s) and create part-human combinations in his books. So it's hmm "artificial/unnatural" common ancestor ^^

(Spoilers Andor) I thought Andor immediately getting wrongfully sent to prison was a super strong point of social commentary.
Like, it so aptly sends the message that if you believe you can just bury your head in the sand, choose short-term personal gain, & go find some relatively quiet corner of the Empire to retire to & pretend that you aren’t living under heinous oppression & the absence of democracy/civil rights then you are deluding yourself. That’s the thing about a GLOBAL EMPIRE (keeping in mind that George Lucas’ original vision of “the Empire” was literally based on the US empire, a world-encircling hegemonic military-covert-economic superpower with the capacity to dominate entire continents from SE Asia to South/Latin America to the Caribbean to the Middle East through it’s sheer overwhelming military/technological advantage over the developing countries who it conquers or through very nasty counterintelligence/state-terrorism means foments coups/installs puppet dictators, & the Rebels were based on guerrilla groups like specifically the Vietcong who defensively resisted US occupation of their homelands by whatever rag-tag means are available to such underdogs.
The message is that, when faced with a global empire, running away in order to try to just live the normal consumerist life we’ve been sold by the very same ruling class who does this horrible imperialism abroad & increasingly brings the techniques of imperial oppression home domestically as they move towards fascism/authoritarianism to uphold systems that are diametrically against the interests of the overwhelming majority of working class Americans, isn’t a viable option. Because the empire still exists, the civil rights will continue to be chipped away- they will not just stop or leave you alone. It affects everyone, & even if you think you can tolerate it, without serious militant resistance (of a sort that the ruling class aligned liberals/centrists who enabled it in the first place refuse to offer- represented historically, for example, by the Weimar government who thought they could just humor & appease Hitler & the Nazis, right up until they essentially anointed his ascent (or in America today, neoliberal Democrats who are literally donating our campaign contributions to the most far-right psycho republicans like they learned nothing from Hillary getting beat by Trump), & represented in the show by moderate “free trade” ass Senators who are content to play along & legitimize the Empire, as long as they’re able to continue holding seats of influence & drinking their space-Champaign (as capitalists, & therefore servants to the ruling class, these kinds of liberal/conservative technocrats have very often been quick to shift their support to fascists & the far-right any time they need to use them as a cudgel of state violence- a means of brutally cracking down any time labor gets too organized & class conscious & able to start demanding decent living conditions, social democracy or a more complete form of justice & class equality, & democratic self-governance- the bane of the ruling class)… But fascists don’t just hand the reins of power back when the dirty deeds are done; very quickly, anyone from the Jews to black people to liberal moderates who don’t believe in depraved fascist ideas, republicans, etc., can end up against the wall, just like the socialists & labor organizers who they wanted purged.
No. In reality, it will get worse for loved ones, neighbors, friends, colleagues, it will mean suffering for anyone who isn’t one of the few billionaires so powerful & wealthy that they can just personally insulate themselves from the totalitarianism they impose on the rest of us. In reality, it doesn’t matter whether you’re an actual “rebel,” a socialist or anarchist revolutionary, a human rights activist, a journalist, whistleblower, or if you’re just willing to go-along-to-get-along. Imperialism & fascism (& right-wing, “might makes right,” anti-intellectual, bigoted, misanthropic, Thanatos driven reactionism very generally, from conservatism to “national conservatism” i.e. fascism, theocracy, Nazism, monarchism, etc., move inexorably towards a world of death camps, mass incarceration for victimless non-crimes, genocides, the absence of democracy everywhere, people getting locked up or killed for just exercising what should be basic minimal rights or demanding a wage that they can survive on, or for no reason at all like Andor. Human life is incredibly cheap in a fascist society.
So far from being a pointless or weird turn of events, I’d argue Andor getting picked up for absolutely nothing after retiring to what appeared to be Planet Miami & shipped off to a prison planet to do slave labor is one of the most incisive & important points the show has made thus far: there’s no running or hiding from a global empire. You. Must. Fight. If you aren’t supporting anti-fascist partisan efforts to liberate society from this unambiguous evil, then not only are you tacitly enabling it to thrive & expand its control, but you’re also ensuring that your life will be short, miserable, & surrounded in the death, cruelty, & suffering. The only way out is through- is to organize together & struggle for revolution- to struggle for a free & just society where this kind of inhuman, monstrous oppression & violence would be recognized as such instead of being lionized & treated as some kind of honorable norm.

Yeah, I was just trying to think about why N-Boll was adopted in the first place. Its root is Latin via Portuguese. Why would you need to use that word when there are alternatives in the Swedish language? Suspect that it was always a bit of a reference like the South Park Chef song about his salty chocolate balls.
Linda definitely knows what she is doing here. It reminds me of an incident that occurred in the EPL between Liverpool's Luis Suarez and Manchester United's Patrice Evra. Suarez (Uruguayan) used a variant of the N word at Evra (French Senegalese) and knew precisely what he was doing.
The funniest thing was the Liverpool players sticking with their teammate and wearing t-shirts with Suarez's face on in the following game's warm up. They try to forget that embarrassing moment.

In the stories set in space this comes up when people's teke based powers get strong. Falling is microgravity. We use drop towers for short term microgravity testing on Earth and even the vomit comet is essentially just freefall inside of a tube.

Hey, Preston. I have a (not so) small question about Catelyn.
So the last we saw her, she is now Lady Stoneheart, right? And she’s out for violence. Now she keeps Robb’s crown with her.
How did she get that crown? From what I remember, after the Freys were done desecrating Robb’s corpse and Grey Wind’s head (and probably buried them, dumped them to the river or fed them to the worms), Ryman Frey took Robb’s crown and he gave it to his prostitute aka the “queen o’ whores”. Now Jaime slapped him real hard for insubordination and told him to take the prostitute with him but not the crown so if the crown was with Jaime before Ryman left to the forest and got croaked by Catelyn and her goons, how did Catelyn retrieve that crown? Is the prostitute Catelyn’s agent? Will the crown become relevant in the future if Robb’s will about making Jon the next King in the North turn out to be true? Also, it could be interesting if Jon and Catelyn somehow meet again, considering both of them are fire zombies who got murdered by their own men and came back to life thanks to the lord of light. Cat could end up having a change of heart after knowing about Jon being a Stark-Targaryen child, not Ned’s bastard and it could lead to a big confusion about the Northern succession because suddenly a potential next King in the North popped out of nowhere and Cat is now witnessing him.
Also, we never know what happened to Robb’s head. Maybe he’s eaten by worms and rotten around the twins just like everyone else or maybe…just maybe, when Joffrey ordered Walder Frey to send him Robb’s head to terrorize Sansa in his wedding, maybe Frey already sent him but Robb’s head is now in the possession of Qyburn. Could Qyburn do some experiment with Robb’s head to make him bigger and send that big skull to Dorne? The one that they pretend it belongs to Gregor Clegane, or the skull in Dorne is actually Gregor Clegane but Robb’s head is now sewn with the body of Gregor in the new identity of Ser Robert Strong.
    You know, Robb…Robert, Stark…Strong.
I would be very honored if you read this comment and end up making videos about it.

There are a few possible ways for the crown to get into LSH's hands. Ryman could have ignored Jaime's order and took the crown anyway, then was killed by LSH. Tom O' Sevens could have stole the crown and passed it on to LSH. Or, as you say, the sex worker was an agent of LSH. But, no, I do not see LSH crowning Jon with that crown - he is too far away and I don't even think Robb named him as heir.
Robb's head is a mystery as Joffrey did want it, but the order was likely ignored to get it. I imagine it was thrown in a mass grave (as much as it would be fun to be on Robert Strong).

Seeing them interacting with each other, fighting about Jon’s bastard status, his true parentage with Rhaegar and Lyanna and how both Jon and Catelyn might end up realizing that they are not so different would be very fascinating.
And as you said, George loves to subvert our expectations. What if Lady Stoneheart was a foreshadowing of what Jon will become? Like George trained us to think that Jon and Dany will be these chosen one (or two) heroes who will save the planet from the Others ever since book one and the Faegon will be a bad guy who steal that glory from them. What if in the end, Faegon become the only one who maintain his sanity and is actually a great ruler while Dany become the mad queen while zombie Jon become an evil tyrant that could surpass Tywin Lannister (just like zombie Catelyn is now a psychopath killer).
Faegon being Azor Ahai could be poetic because it shows us that you don’t have to have a magic Targaryen lineage like Jon or Dany to save the world. You can be a normal person, or a Blackfyre or anyone with a good heart and competency and that’s enough. Jon and Dany could represent aristocracy (like kings and queens and dictators). Faegon could represent meritocracy (like elected presidents).
Also, I would love to see Robb’s head belongs to Robert Strong. Arya wants to remove Gregor off the list, right? Now witness Gregor with her dead brother’s head and see if she will have a gut to kill him.

So, as a Swede who's been involved in the Chocolate Ball discourse and read a fair bit of history on it (the confectionary, the name, and the word itself), here's a rant:
There's really no feasible position that the confectionary 'just sounds' like that word. Rather, the people whinging about it no longer being commonly refered to by that name hold that the Swedish version of the N-word isn't derogatory, and/or that the name is a crucial part of Swedish culture (these people are usually Swedish White Nationalists; not everyone who uses the old name is, some are simply old people who didnt get the memo).
The idea would be that the word is closer in tone to the US usage of "n*gro" than the actual n-word. In reality though, not only does that fail as an argument because "n*gro" also is at best a really dubious term but the Swedish term also de facto has been used as a slur the same way the n-word has.

When it comes down to it, the only evidence he's gandalf is that he's met a hobbit and he said a fan-service line that gandalf once said (based on his ability to smell which you'd assume all the wizards could do if one could)
Besides that, literally everything else points to him being a Blue. He's headed to Rhun (which gandalf never did, he arrives more or less in the same year Sauron makes the one ring which follows the blue's 2nd version of their story, they've already teased him with a different staff and they're only keeping it vague to maintain the mystery of him maybe being gandalf. But most importantly, the Blue wizard's stories are wide open to interpretation so they can basically make him an Amazon original character without pissing anybody off..

I don't think you're picking up on Rhaenyra and Viserys' relationship. the prophecy and patriarchy and destiny are all intertwine with their personal connection. He fucks up his parenting several times and every time, the way he reestablishes their bond is by affirming her as his heir. She fucks up as a daughter and he restores their bond by reminding her of the prophecy. So being the heir is core to her relationship to her father and the prophecy for her is about her father. If she doesn't become the queen then she and her father didn't have a relationship based on anything real. So she's calling on him to save their relationship and he climbs that throne for their relationship. so yeah it's about patriarchy but also fatherhood. She also doesn't go with Criston because of the prophecy, not just because of the responsibility but because that responsibility is what her connection to her father is based on.

NOBODY forced them to make a show centred around events they didn't have the copyright to, they could have done ANYTHING else. No one forced them to do this, very few people even asked them to do this. Everyone would have been fine with a story set in the third or fourth age that didn't touch on canon at all. Instead they made this problem for themselves, and it's not an excuse to blame that on them not having the rights to it, that's the problem, not the excuse.

Preston did have a point with his RoP observation that the show attempted to portray the orcs as something other than mindlessly evil pawns. In those middle episodes as they introduced Adar, seemed like they took baby steps in that direction. But they never truly followed through. Instead of showing Adar as addressing the warband of orcs, imagine if there were orc families there, migrating from a famine down south or east. And he's blaming Sauran for putting the orcs in this predicament. That could have been powerful- give the orcish race some depth and a degree of sympathy. Heck, you could have even used that as a reason for Halbrand being on that stupid ship. He and some loyalists had to take flight when Adar overthrew his reign. Then when he comes back in the van of a Numenorian army, Adar recognizes him and is utterly baffled- what turn of events led to this?? Could have been interesting, even attempting to follow their lame storyline with a few improvements.

    • @catlord760
      @catlord760 Год назад +2

Ok the ideas are flowing here: Halbrand's ship is wrecked and he's on the flotsam with the surviving loyalists, when he encounters Galadrial. They rescue her but she's barely alive, only conscious for a few moments as they haul her out of water. Sauran recognizes her and hatches a plan. He kills the rest of his crew before she wakes up. She's appreciative (if her face can pull that off) but confused as Halbrand is the only person on the wreckage. Either he tells her there was another storm and they all drowned, or that she was confused and he was the only one. She accepts his story, but something about it always bothers her and this little seed of distrust is planted in her mind. Halbrand only tells her his ship was a trading galley from the land of Umber (not sure what he'd say his role on the ship was).
They're rescued by Numenorians and in their audience before the Regent, Galadrial reveals her quest to hunt Sauran. Mind you, Halbrand didn't know this before- we have to assume that Galadrail's search for Sauran was to the north as they showed, not south, so she didn't know he was there and he didn't know she was hunting him. We also have to figure that Sauran's power is diminished. He doesn't have the all consuming power of the fell races that he wielded in the books (this show is so off-cannon that yeah, I'm going with this). Its here that Halbrand come's up with a plan- he tells Galadrial that he's heard rumors of Sauran holding sway over a land bordering Umber with his orc armies, and that he's planning on launching an attack. Perhaps she's at first doubtful; she's got this feeling she shouldn't trust him, but Sauran is her obsession. The Numenorians aren't fully convinced either, and decide to use a Palantir to attempt to view the region. But let's say that only the aged King can use it, who's bedridden but not as infirm as the show depicted. The use of the Palantir is a great strain on him, and he needs Halbrand there to guide his vision as he doesn't really know the region or what he's looking for. He's having difficulty and unexpectedly takes Halbrand's hand and places it on the Palantir to directly assist him, thinking it harmless as long as he's the main operator, but its then that Halbrand's nature is revealed to the King, but being connected through the device Halbrand/Sauran gets control of the King much in the same way Sauruman did with Theoden. The King confirms what Halbrand said, that there's orc armies gathering in the south. Perhaps the King make a recovery afterward, is more hale and hearty, and the Numenorian's opinion of Halbrand goes up considerably. Not only does their King favor him, but the entire court is now disposed to Halbrand. They don't suspect him of having any healing powers-more that the use of the Palantir seemed to awaken something in the King. For Galadrial's part, her trust in Halbrand has gone up a notch and she puts aside her earlier misgivings. Perhaps Elendil is the only person in court that for some reason has never trusted Halbrand or his story- maybe something about the wreckage of the ship doesn't jive with Halbrand's story of it being a trading galley (the sea is always right!). With this knowledge, the Numenorian's assemble a fleet to sail to the southlands put an end to Sauran once and for all.

    • @catlord760
      @catlord760 Год назад +2

more ideas: After seeing their King make a recovery, the Regent is so pleased that she makes a comment in court that Halbrand's presence has been "a gift". Later its Elendil that chides Halbrand as "my Lord of gifts", and asks him some probing questions about what he truly knows about the south. Maybe Elendil being their admiral has some secret contacts in the south, and they don't say anything about Sauran being there. Could also be that Galadrial at first doesn't buy what the King and Halbrand said about the Palantir. I'm pretty sure in the lore that Palantir's are Numenorian devices, not sure if the elves had them as well, so she's unfamiliar with the device. She sneaks into the Palantir chamber to attempt to see for herself. She at first struggles to control it, but being powerful herself she eventually manages and attempts to view the southlands as the King and Halbrand did. But she has the same problem as the King, she's not sure where she should be looking. Maybe she sees images of orc armies mustering, but what she really wants to see is Sauran. She doesn't know what he looks like though, and one of the last images she catches is Adar, but only for a moment and from a distance. Its then that she's captured and imprisoned for using the Palantir. Halbrand, still acting like her friend, visits her and questions what she sees. She confirms the orc armies but isn't sure about seeing Sauran.
The show could have also gone in the direction that the usage of the Palantir opened Sauran's eyes to a new way of controlling people. Maybe he got a vibe of the magics involved with the device, and thinks of a way of supercharging it by forging the rings. I think in the lore around Palantirs, the devices were made look only in certain directions, except for a central one that could look anywhere. Maybe that served as the analog to Sauran's plan with forging the rings.

I thought George meant to imply with the death of Jahaera that Alicent's usurpation through Aegon the Elder was seen as illegitimate and their heirs had to die, and the line of Rhaenyra and Daemon that everybody opposed as being the true line of succession. Remember that history still made Rhaenyra's Queenship illegitimate even though it was her children that succeeded Aegon the Elder. Quite schizofrenic if you ask me.
This may be complicated by the fact that many believe that Viserys wasn't Viserys but a Lyseni.Though why would the Rogare faction need to marry themselves to Viserys if Viserys was already a Lyseni of their household? They made themselves visible and open to attack, when a Lyseni Viserys could have been guided to advance their interests from the shadows, without exposing their family. Viserys is a tragic character, who is tasked with rebuilding the Targaryens after mismanagement by Daeron and Baelor and the inaction of his brother Aegon. I wouldn’t say I’m a green supporter but there a lot more reasons to support them. At least going be the show. Rhaenyra has taken her role as heir for granted. She is not at court and seems to just be waiting for her father to die. It seems Jace is committed to be a good king but is he really learning anything at Dragonstone? Meanwhile Aliscent is basically running the kingdom and probably has a legitimate reason to believe that her children are in danger if her son doesn’t take the throne.

Lol it seems it's you who should read the book again. Gyldayn says bluntly that it's not something Mushroom came up with and it was widely known fact. He just dismisses that without any reason. Literally. No justification for dismissing it. Here you have the exact quote:
"That such a tale was told in the wine sinks and pot shops of King’s Landing cannot be doubted, but it may be that its provenance was later, when King Aegon II was seeking justification for the cruelty of his own acts."
It's the most blatant example of Gyldayn picking and choosing historical facts on his whims and him being a biased narrator. He literally have nothing except "it may be" without any proof or let's be honest - any logic. When was Aegon seeking this justification? He wasn't rulling after the war. He was assassinated in it. Are we supposed to believe, that within the short window between Borros arriving in KL and Muddy Mess he somehow managed to gaslight half a million people into believing that something happened when it clearly didn't happened and everyone who was in King's Landing at a time can tell it didn't happened? It's not like this had happened behind closed doors in the palace, so townfolk can't tell if this had happened. The story is clear. They were supposed to be allowed to be raped by *any man* who can afford the price. Everyone in KL would know it's a hogwash if that was fake news. And here we are told that there is no doubt it was known thing in King's Landing

The George coming up with “reasons and excuses” in his head to defend his friend is a really odd take
Could it not be if he does defend them that it’s because he actually knows the person, their morals, their character, their intent?
As opposed to people online who are making damming assumptions as to a persons character based on a few pieces of information without ful context or knowledge of the person, their intent etc
Could be poor attempts at jokes, things out of context
Without knowing a persons heart and mind and judging them on odds and sods bits of evidence that may or may not be in context or a joke rather than judging them on their actions, reasons and character seems rash
Without knowing a lot of things going on when something deemed potentially “”racist” is said or posted and reasons behind what’s said or posted doesn’t sit well with me
I have a friend in his 50s now, white, loads of old tattoos, played in a ska/punky band, shaved head, people assumed he was maybe racist due to appearance, even more so when he was posting products with funny names and pictures from Far Eastern countries
But had these people known anything about him, he was in Japan with his long term Japanese wife, posting photos of things he has previously told his close friends about last time he was out there, which was before everyone posted everything online
I’ve posted pictures of “cock soup” packets from the shop before doesn’t mean I’m for or against men

I’ve just looked into the Linda thing….
Is the uproar really because she commented on the fact corlys is black in the show when he isn’t in the source material??
Something I’ve heard many RUclips commentators mention, the fact it makes it even more hard for the realm to believe the strong boys aren’t bastards and there was no real reason for him to be black
I mean other than that point I think corlys and his whole family did an amazing job this season and have no issue with it, but I can understand someone feeling the need to comment if they’ve built their whole career on song of ice and fire world and the lore associated with it, and the authors description and appearance of the people from the area of Valyria
I’m sure if a spin off was based around yi-ti and one if the main families were ginger haired pale skinned as Celtic as possible where as everyone else was East Asian appearance then Linda would probably have commented on that

One of her most shocking threads had her calling people "ret*rds" over and over and over. This isn't a teenager or a person in their early twenties. She's in her forties. Like do people just think anime is just all DragonBall and Pokémon? That all anime villains are just Team Rocket incompetent or Freeza levels of evil for evils sake?
Do people not realize that anime is a very large art movement with a plethora of media that caters to all demographics, not just kids?
