    What are your thoughts on this Kingstar camper vs competitors?

    • @avecruxspesunica2552
      @avecruxspesunica2552 Год назад +8

      Here are some thoughts on what i've learned living in my host yukon full time since late 2021.
      0. Avoid slides... why... (a) water leaks - on all three slides!!!, (b) insects crawling through, (c) winter breeze coming through, (d) slide-awnings make awful noise and can possibly rip with high winds and finally (e) slides makes the camper extremely heavy.
      1. Love the open space and huge storage
      2. Love the huge tanks (fresh 65 gal/ grey 51 gal/ black 32 gal)
      3. Needs a flatbed dually... (diesel - at least a f450 /// gas - at least f350 (7.3godzilla) and preferably chassis+cab flatbed)
      4. Get a quiet ac right away... 12v ac would be nice to have but not at +$3k
      5. Get On-Demand Truma water heater... love it

      I really like Kingstar’s continual upgrades without having to wait for the next “annual” upgrade. The “controlled custom” approach to their builds is really appealing. I’d probably opt for a traditional dinette, since I have a friend who’d occasionally travel with me. Otherwise, I’d option my build identically to yours. Do you have an idea how tall and long your rig is? Thanks for a great and informative video.

    • @MickPsyphon
      @MickPsyphon 10 месяцев назад +1

      Not a bad setup! If you're full time RV'ing, the optional _"garage"_ is useful. Otherwise, for seasonal camping, it makes more sense to have more interior space.
      Having said that, Kingstar does seem to make good use of the interior space. I like how they implemented the wet bath setup.
      Being 6'6" with size 16 feet, I'm sensitive to confined spaces that aren't used properly. The shoe _"rack"_ would be useless to me, but maybe I could find another use for it.
      Curious! Do you leave the access panel open for the cats to get to the litter box? Or are the cats trained to let you know when they need to use it?
      Interesting use of the desk space!
      Hmmmm... since you give a good example of someone who is 5'5", I strongly suspect that I would feel cramped in this unit. The HOST Mammoth would be a better option for taller people like me.

    This is my dream set up. I would rather have this than even an EarthRomer. I love how Kingstar continually evolves. I feel like a lot of the other truck campers haven’t updated their design in decades. I hope they’re still putting out this quality when I finally have two pennies to rub together to buy one.

    Thank you the reminder of what we have ordered and are waiting delivery on! We are excited to get the call that's its ready for pick up! I looked extensively at the competition and was resistant to a long box dully. I was nervous to drive it within city limits. Now that I've taken delivery on the RAM 3500 and driven it for over a month I recognize my fears were over dramatized in my mind!! Next week we drop the box and install a Hillsboro flatbed coloured to matched our truck. Getting out on the road is getting closer and closer. We look forward to following your adventures.

    Nice walk-through/tour of your new Kingstar Camino 88 truck camper. I got a tour of your rig and the one Marcus was using at Overland Expo PNW and, in person, the Kingstar Camino 88 is even more impressive. Their innovation, craftsmanship, and attention to detail is top shelf. The inside is so spacious and comfortable I had to repeatedly remind myself there was no slide-out! Kingstar has a nice ethos and I can easily see that working with Marcus and his team would be an interesting and enjoyable venture.

    What a fascinating interior design. Both for the bathroom cleverness but especially for that Command Center option. I have no use for the typical dinette arrangement, as for me this sort of side by side and window facing desk concept is altogether more appealing. So it is wonderful to find such a nice example of this rare sort of option. Thankyou for sharing.

    I love these campers! But my imagination sees the forward garage removed with the camper moved forward so the tail end of the flatbed could be used as an outside deck with a custom rear step, grilling and storage system, but it might be too small unless you can get the 550 a little longer.

    • @ExploringStillConnected

  • @Knuckledragnation
    @Knuckledragnation 5 месяцев назад +1

    I’m curious about the litter & battery/inverter area. Did you opt to put the litter box down there because you have fans that circulate through that area?
    I was just thinking about how adding a fan powered air circulatory system to that lower area could provide cooling for the electronics/batteries, cooling & some comfort for the cats when they’re down there while at the same time controlling the airflow & possible odors from that lower area reaching the cabin area up top.
    Now I’m not saying your cats have explosive gases but I was thinking along the same lines as how boats have that fan system that’s supposed to suck explosive gasoline fumes out of the engine compartment before starting the engine.
    If that wasn’t why you added the litter box there and or ya think “Jeepers what a lame idea” then ok my wife is right in the fact that I overthink things way to much. 😳😜 Anyways I appreciate the video. You’ve definitely given me some great ideas to incorporate in my toy hauler moving forward.

    • @ExploringStillConnected

      We put the litter box down there because that was the most logical spot that was out of the way (and Kingstar could make room). We normally don’t have any issues with smell but every once in awhile… 💩 stinks… 😹 We haven’t thought about the fan but it’s not a bad idea!

      Definitely future content to come, that said there are external valves for the grey tank drain and on the floor where the water pump is a valve for the external tanks to go into the main. So far we like the cassette!

    Hey you guys. For the last 2 months I have been leaning towards the Kingstar KRUZR 88. The one I built on there website comes out to about $110,000 and some change. That is pretty much every option they offer on the thing. Now that I know that I am willing on paying that amount I have been entertaining the idea of a Rugged Mountain RV. Specifically their new X-14 because it is a non slide, starting around $100,000, and comes pretty well equipped. It may be a little too fancy and pretty big. Just curious on what were your last choices before deciding on the Kingstar?

    • @ExploringStillConnected
      @ExploringStillConnected  3 месяца назад

      We were looking more generally at new Northern Lites (didn’t check all the boxes) and older Bigfoots (gut and retrofit). But honestly when we saw the Kingstar there was no comparison for our wants. The Rugged Mountain non slide wasn’t available so not even considered. We would recommend getting in to the actual campers because that decided it for us. Make a list of your must haves, nice to haves and must not haves… both campers are great options but fit very different needs. Jesse (Rugged Mountain) and Marcus (Kingstar) are both awesome to work with.

    Few more questions,..what is the length of your flatbed? Is your truck a cab chassis or did you take an 8' bed off it? What is the approximate wet weight of just the truck camper?

    • @ExploringStillConnected
      @ExploringStillConnected  Год назад +1

      11’ flatbed on a 84 “ CA cab chassis. Total wet and loaded with all the gear is ~17k . So about 7k wet with gear and garage/side storage. That said we have a ton of gear 😂. I think Kingstar said empty it’s about 4k but don’t quote me on that.

      @@ExploringStillConnected OK thank you. I have an older 01 dodge dually quad cab 4x4 with an 8' bed. The cab top is only 56" due to the quad cab style, which I like. The thing is I don't want the cabover part of a camper sticking out over the windshield or part of the hood. So I'm thinking if I can put a 10 or 11' flatbed on where the 8' bed is and have a 24" wide storage area behind the cab and set the camper behind it, the cab over part would be right about the front of the cab or top of the windshield area. Only concern then would be if the center of gravity would be right. Thanks again, just trying to get this figured out before I start throwing money at it.

      MSRP on our camper with all the options, storage, solar , etc is in the mid 90s. You can get into a Kingstar camper for low 50s but as you add options you add cost and weight. I also saw that Kingstar has a new build (upgrade as you need) that they are releasing 2024 that should come in a bit lower than that too.

    hate those knobs on the cabinets and also, why do people keep pushing them in when they close the doors? It doesn't do anything but force you to double- push again to open. it does nothing! sheeeesh

    • @ExploringStillConnected
      @ExploringStillConnected  Год назад

      We have been a fan of them so far. And they do actually lock the cabinets closed when the knobs are pushed in. Great for traveling and bumpy roads. But I could see it as a hassle for some.

    • @VailJohnson
      @VailJohnson Год назад

      examine the mechanism from the inside of the door, there is NO connection whatsoever. You can easily pull the door open by hand whether the knob is pushed in or not. It doesn't do anything but make it tedious to open and close. Some people may like the look of the knob being flush and I understand that.

      We had it for a couple months at this point with probably a full 3 weeks of consistent use. Our walkthrough in this video and review is what drew us to the camper after 3 years of researching options for full time living. Even after being on the road for 4 months in this I would say the same things! We love it.

    Why not purchase a small motor home. No one would dare remove that monster from the bed of the truck so what is it's advantage?

    • @ExploringStillConnected
      @ExploringStillConnected  9 месяцев назад

      We have removed the camper a few times. It’s pretty easy and only takes about 10 minutes, it does look sketchy but that’s normal or so we are told :) Even if we didn’t remove it, though, we are planning to modify the truck soon to be able to go off the beaten path further than you ever would in a motor home.

    I stopped, just seconds in. No pass-through. The ideal king-cab, long box truck, with an option to mount a good camper, and yet again no way to go from the back of a truck into the camper. Like the M1010. Yes I know the whole thing would have to be custom, but it's where the world is now, and no-one seems to make the options.

      How much does your entire camper weigh, with all the storage I would soon exceed the GW of the truck. Did the flat bed weigh more or less than the factory bed? I have a 3500 Chevrolet and a Northstar camper. I would love to upgrade to a similar setup with my current truck. Nice rig !

    • @ExploringStillConnected
      @ExploringStillConnected  9 месяцев назад +2

      @jayknight850 great question. We have not weighed it without our gear, but I would guess around 14500-15000 total (note the truck is 10000lb alone). Loaded to live out of we are at 17,500. Note that the camper minus the side and front gearage would slip into any 1-ton truck. They’re build with that platform in mind.

    Having all the elctronics in the floor is a bad idea imo. You gonna have to be very careful not spilling a drink or even washing the floor.

    • @ExploringStillConnected
      @ExploringStillConnected  9 месяцев назад

      That’s a fair concern, it’s pretty common in truck campers because it helps keep the center of gravity low and in front of the rear axle. Trade offs.
      The floors are small and staggered enough we prefer to wash them with a spray bottle.

    Colossal waste of space . Center of gravity on this thing is ridicilous i would be really nervous driving it on hgwy in windy weather , camper is sitting too high for no rerason . This is the dymbest configuration i have seen so far on a camper

    • @ExploringStillConnected

      I guess it’s all up to perspective, with a overall height of 11’3” we are shorter than most other hard sided truck campers. Sure you can go pop up and get that down but there are negatives with that we did not want. As for center of gravity benign high, if it is we have not noticed, on the f550 this has been nothing but stable for us over the last 15k miles.

    Sorry, big nope. Same money buys a super C with WAY more space and comfort. With all the storage the departure angle is destroyed so it's obvious this won't see anything more then gravel roads well within the capabilities of far more comfortable rigs.

    • @ExploringStillConnected
      @ExploringStillConnected  10 месяцев назад +1

      Everyone has their own needs, wants and will not haves :) You would be surprised where this thing can go if you choose the right lines and once we add a bit of clearance. Another of our wants was the ability to take the truck and leave a base camp with the camper, which we can easily do. But it’s important for everyone to do the research on their own needs!
