    I have owned this unit for several months now. I have successfully tested the unit running two 5 ton AC's (with Micro-Air Easy Starts and not firing off simultaneously). In addition I needed to run a small data room that pulls approx. 3000 watts and has a 2 ton mini split. This generator ran without issues although I will say if it was a true emergency with no power I would not press my luck with the second 5 ton AC unit (it is a lot on that 50A circuit). For extra piece of mind I added an energy monitoring unit on the generator inputs to the house. This thing is a fuel hog because of its size and when I decided to oversize I believe I went too far. I needed a generator that had a THD under 5 because of the data room, and there are not a plethora of options out there in larger units. Looking forward to seeing your video to see if you have similar results (especially on fuel burn).

      Thanks for sharing this info with us. The only other one that could compare even closely with this generator is the Powerhorse 27000 but it does not have the low idle mode feature. I am planning on doing the comparison between those two. When gas prices get cheaper lol.

      I just tested my 12000df running NG. It also ran 2 - 5 ton Rheem units simultaneously, no hard start kits. I was astonished. Started my microwave as well and 2 refrigerators were running. I let it run about 5 minutes in both AC units. Amazing!! And that was on NG...

      For your setup diesel would have been much better. They don't consume much fuel and if the model is 1500rpm they output wave should have pretty low thd. , And if u still think the electronics on your server room is an issue. I highly recommend an online ups .

    • @buzeyga2597

      @@KuntalGhosh 1800rpm diesel would be a first choice but a 20kw single phase kWiet power costs about $26,000 these days. Even a 14kw will set you back $16,000. As for UPS's, all the equipment is sitting behind two Eaton 9PX 6000's with two EBMs each.

    Gavin, thanks for answering my question regarding the frequency of this generator. Although Amazon advertises it as a 50Hz machine, you are right, it is a 60Hz machine as noted in the owner's manual. We received ours last week and have completed the interlock and inlet plug on one of our 200a panels. We had a bit of electrical work to accomplish as we needed to balance the load between panels. That work is complete now and all we have left to do is to install another interlock and inlet plug on the second panel. The test run on the first panel went flawlessly and the generator performed perfectly.

    That thing is a beast. The RPM didn't seem to change when you enabled the low idle feature. Also, I suspect the sound level will increase somewhat as the load increases. It would be interesting to hear the sound level at near full load.

    • @NukePooch1
      @NukePooch1 2 года назад +5

      The RPMs began to drop after 15 seconds or so...It doesn't really seem like an inverter gen where it will continue putting out rated voltage/frequency at idle. I'd like to see what the voltage/freq is when it idles down...

    • @eosjoe565
      @eosjoe565 2 года назад +3

      @@NukePooch1 That is a question I have as well. I have a Honda inverter generator and of course use the Econo-Idle feature all the time. I've always been curious how the conventional generators achieve the idle-down functionality.

    • @seymourscagnetti1413
      @seymourscagnetti1413 2 года назад +1

      @@eosjoe565 I bought a new 2017 Honda EM4000SX. It is a conventional gen. with "ECO THROTTLE". Compared to other non-inverter gens. it is extremely quiet on low idle (hi idles as well) with "NO" load. When "ANY" kind of load is applied the RPM kicks up to hi idle. Where this gen. really shines is on a construction site. Example: Say you have three corded tools plugged in, a circular saw, a table saw, and a roto-hammer. when all tools are not used the gen. idles at a low, quiet, fuel saving mode. When a tool is picked up and started the RPM kicks up to high idle, then down to low idle when the tool is stopped. In 2021, I sold the EM4000SX for $1800, $200 less than what I paid after owning for 4 yrs. I put that money toward a new 2021 EU3000is. I miss the 5000 watts surge power, and the 4000 running watts of the EM4000SX, but the whisper quiet inverter is a huge trade off. Hope this helps.
      EDIT:
      The EM4000SX engine is the revolutionary "igx270". The idle, governor and voltage regulation functions are computer controlled resulting in one of the most easy quick starting, smooth running, quiet and efficient engines in it's class. The carb has two stepper motors, one for "ECO THROTTLE" idle control, and the other for electric automatic choke. There is a manual choke lever. In 4 yrs. I never had to use it. The auto choke worked even in +15 degree cold weather with one turn of the electric starter key. When I sold generator, it still has the original battery which was functioning as new. Did I mention that I miss that generator?

    I have a Generac 17500 with a tri fuel kit and 10 100lb bottles. I may sell that for one of the low THD Westinghouse units. Need to give this some thought. I suspect the wgen 12000 would be ample with a couple soft start kits on the 5 ton and 3.5 ton then maybe a couple propane pulsar 2000 inverters for the two extra refrigerators and two freezers in the garage. That 28K is tempting as it I could probably back feed both 200 amp panels one is for pool and hot and patio. The only negative I can see to the Wgen 20000 is the oil needs changed every 50 hours. Who wants to change the oil every two days in a grid down situation. The Wgen 12000 DF requires oil change every 100 hours. I also like how Westinghouse manual shows you how to remove the bonded neutral wire.

    During a recent power outage in Katy, TX, I was recommended a specific individual by my community for generator needs. I noticed that he had a 28KW unit listed in his shop. Despite multiple inquiries about purchasing it, he insisted that it was a commercial generator unsuitable for home use, claiming it would damage household electronics and lighting. However, he used the same generator to test his own house. If he didn't want to sell the unit, he could have simply stated so instead of providing misleading information during a critical time. Fortunately, I chose not to buy from him, as he attempted to sell smaller generators, knowing they would be ineffective without a proper generator power inlet. Such business practices are not acceptable, especially during emergencies.

    Seems like overkill. I don't know how you could utilize two 50 amp outlets at the same time because you can only hook one up to a house. Unless you run two entirely separate transfer switches running separate sets of breakers. I could be wrong on that but I don't think you can combine two input lines. Uggg, not again.... Westinghouse needs new design engineers. Why do they keep installing the 50 amp outlets just above the wheel. Dont they know that you cant plug in the damn huge cords fully in because the cords are so big that they hit the wheel and keep you from having the plug plugged in fully to the socket???? My 50 amp cord wiggles/vibrates itself back out of the socket while its running. That`s a shock hazard waiting to happen. I`ve even left a message with westinghouse about it, nothing but crickets. Other than that design flaw, they do build a hell of a good generator. Our Wgen9500DF has been running perfect.

    FYI. You don't need this big of a unit. The Westinghouse 12000df handles it with ease. Way under rated IMO. I ran (2) 5 ton Rheem ac units (13 eer) 16 seer. simultaneously on nat gas. 2 refrigerators and turned on my microwave. Ran like a swiss watch. Probably would not run both AC units at once in an emergency real life situation. At 348 lbs it's 100lbs heavier than the "other" 12k units. Obviously the 20K unit would do the job but it's not necessary. These twin cylinder Westinghouse units are absolute beasts.
