In several cases, charges were even escalated on the plaintiffs a tier higher to things like false reporting, resisting, and even assault toward officers. When a gray area no longer exists, what's not to love?

i protested in DC for five hours today. whenever we marched around a corner and saw police, we were instructed to chant “hands up, don’t shoot!” and the police officers were laughing at us. i looked up what DC is like now simply because i’m worried for the safety of the people i met. they were wonderful people and if any of them are gassed for a peaceful protest, i will won’t forgive my police department, and i WILL be out in those streets again as soon as possible.

I have no problem with protest, it’s part of our culture as a country and it is a constitutional right. I also believe that a protest is no longer a protest when it involves violence. One thing no one ever thinks about are the people on the frontline that are innocent, that are being yelled at, cursed at, being told they are racist, and lumped in with a small number of people that did a heinous thing which started the protest. Collective punishment sows division faster than a small amount of people being treated as something they aren’t. Kindness is a two way street - it is offered freely and no person can be commanded to give it.
Timmothy Bruns When you’re in full riot gear I think you’ve got more than enough armor to protect you from name calling. Don’t be a snowflake. Also if you’re in it for the right reason you’re on the front line to help with the healing and defend your community. You’re there to protect those people at all cost. It’s your responsibility to deescalate situations and to be the voice of reason.
