This sounds like an updated retelling of the Bluebeard fairytale. In the fairytale, a hideous wealthy man with a blue beard married a beautiful young woman and forbade her from going to a specific room in his castle when he leaves for an urgent business function. Out of curiosity, she entered the forbidden room to find the bodies of young women who were the man’s previous wives. She managed to send for help as her husband returned early and discovered her betrayal. Her brothers arrived in time to rescue her and killed him.

What about the original wife? It said she died of a rare illness after giving birth to Oliver, but he turned out to be a Henry clone so she didn’t give birth to him? Did she even die of a rare disease or was that a cover and he murdered her too?

But see if she did actually die after Oliver was born, who was the first known clone, Henry knew he could clone successfully, and *then* his wife suddenly dies young?
And he conveniently has his wife’s DNA stored, and none of the clones seem to have any disease? Maybe he waited to kill her until he knew he could clone her.
Even if they are clones, they look, sound, act like, and have rough memories of his original wife and he murders them all?
I mean for a dude that’s obsessed with honeymooning and murdering this lady over and over, the story of the original wife is only what he told the scientist lady to get her to help him clone faster in the beginning.
Damn people! The guy broke the movie down to 10 minutes and you still couldn't pay attention. He told you that the first wife didn't really die from childbirth complications, but from suffocation. Henry killed her.

Claire didn't come into the picture until after the Elizabeth Project started, meaning the fate of the ORIGINAL wife is still ambiguous. You should be Embarrassed
What didn't make sense was that it said "Claire's story started 5 years prior" but then Oliver is like 20 years old? Timeline doesn't add up for me - you could say somehow the original Elizabeth's DNA was preserved for like 15 years but then the part about Oliver being blinded as a child because of his relationship with one of the clones doesn't fit.
Either the recap messed up, the movie did, or I'm missing something here.

Symbolic representation of a dark secret that is inevitably going to be found out? I agree with what you’re saying though. He should keep it locked and also maybe hide the entrance behind a bookcase or some similar piece of furniture. And never tell them it’s even there. That way, it would at least be some time before they even knew it existed.

One day, her husband has to go on a trip and informs her that she shouldn't try to go in a particular room of the house. She, obviously, enters the room and discovers many bodies of dead women. Once her husband comes back he tells her that he knows she went into the room and that she will suffer the same consequences as his previous wives who did the same thing as her, and who are actually the dead women that she found in the room. There is way more details in the original story but it's been more than 10 years since I've read that story, which I invite you to read because it's really good in my opinion.

That ending is a letdown. A clueless newborn clone reaps the rewards of the hard work of the dead clones without any of the trauma. The husband's motivations were too shallow after forcing us to wait the whole movie to learn them, and they were unrealistic too: why would he have developed homicidal tendencies toward the woman he loved so much he defied the scientific community to clone her? Is oliver a clone or a son? Why doesnt the clone attack claire for aiding and abetting her murderer and captor? None of it makes sense.

Ive literly seen this exact story where a king tells his bride not to enter a room and eventually the bride enters the room while the king is at work finding dead bodies and then the king returns and the king goes to kill the bride

It is Bluebeard. But in that story the bride's Brothers return to kill Bluebeard before he kills her.. At least that's the version I recall.

The concept of this movie is similar to a fairytale called “Bluebeard” and an adaptation of that tale called “The Bloody Chamber” by Angela Carter! Highly recommend the adaptation. I had to do it for my German Fairytale course (yes, this is an actual university course)

This is like the tale of blue beard where he had hidden the bodies of his previous brides and his new bride was told not to enter the room. After she opened the room, the door knob began to look as if it had blood on and the rust that appeared all of a sudden wouldnt go away. That's how blue beard knew when he returned home that his new bride did in fact open the forbidden door. He tried to kill her too but she managed to signal her brothers somehow and they came to her aid just in time
