I’m personally not a fan of DLSS (even 2.0 with its improvements over 1.0) as for my eyes it seems to put a little bit of smearing over the image and I also personally don’t like that it has to be paired with TAA for the most part. I’d rather just play at native resolution or deal with the aliasing at lower resolutions.

@@RecklessTurtle Seems like a slightly odd combo even for 2017, with a higher end CPU and a mid range GPU, but if you're happy with it that's all that matters. Perhaps gaming isn't your primary use for the system? Anyway you upgrade when you're ready new GPU's are on the way sometime next year after all, assuming there'll be any stock available of course.

@@justbecause3187 When I bought the laptop, RTX 20 series had just been launched. If I had the budget, I would have gone the 20XX route but they were too expensive, so I opted for 1 Gen older model. But yeah, I don't yearn for the max FPS on every game and be a competitive. I game leisurely and this combo works just fine. Any combo that gives me 30+FPS with High graphics is good enough for me.

I went from the 7700k to the 11700k right after they announced the 12th gen processors. Why would I do such a thing? For starters the 11700k went from 400 to 320 usd, and I didn't have to replace my ram or AIO. After experiencing the DDR3 to DDR4 transition, I remembered the pricing and limited availability, and during that time the market was far more stable. As for 8700k. You can add at least 20% to its results if you overclock it. Probably closer to 30%. Because stock clocks are pathetic (3700Mhz) So the difference would not be as drastic. Especially in games. But its a good upgrade nevertheless.

But the prices will stay 20-30% higher for years than before the shortage (Becaue the shortage wont disappear in 2022 and 2023)
After the shortage the prices could drop extrem, if Intel, AMD, NVIDA have 2 compete with each other, and innosilicon is trying to get into the GPU marktet.
So i think in 2025 the situation will be much better than today.

Upgrading from my 8700 (non-k) to a 12700k this month. I'm pretty stoked to see the improvements! :D

I went from a 9600k to a 12600k. The improvement is absolutely noticeable. I never thought I would notice the lack of hyper-threading but I did. 12600k, purrs like a kitten, temps are the same or lower... and Minecraft runs better than ever (with mods). It won't be a night & day sitch, like if you went from a i5-3470 to an i5-9600K (i did this), more like a noon to afternoon difference but definitely noticeable and welcome. Hope you love the 12700k. BTW, 13th gen will be out next year. It should see some improvements in comparison to the 12600k. I'm thinking of buying the 13600k or 13700k and donating the 12600k just to be on the bleeding edge.

@@theramblingmillennial3770 Did you get big fps improvements in yout games? I'm upgrading from 3770k to 12700k in a few weeks. I can play every new game quite fine due to my 1080 but i get like fps drops to 5 or 1 fps in World of Warcraft in some fighting situations took me a while to dig around i found out my card throttles to 1 watt usage at that time so i figured it has to be the cpu which is bottlenecking the gpu although i never go above 70% usage. That's the main reason why i upgrade. When i can't even play my maingame smoothly anymore its def. the time to upgrade.

@@williehrmann I didn't necessarily gain huge improvements as far as average FPS but I did gain frame consistency. It's ridiculous how much consistent it is now. I hadn't noticed any frame drops in the games I play since the upgrade. I can say with all honesty, it will be night and day for you since you're coming from a 3rd gen though. Plus I play @ 1440p, so there has been a definite improvement from 9th gen to 12th. I will say that I so missed my 3rd gen PC though. I did all sorts of experiments with it. Don't get rid of the 3770k though. Turn it into a hackintosh station or make it a server with unRAID, freenas, promox, or something similar. It will still be useful for at least a few more generations.

I’ve got a system with a 10700K running rock solid at 5.3 GHz with a 3080 ti at 1440p, and was looking at upgrading to a 12th gen, but man - the advantages are sooo small in gaming.

Yea don't do it. Wait at least another generation so that software/games are developed to utilize ddr5 better as well. As long as you keep your gpu at its limits then the cpu choice will hardly matter at all. Cost in general in a year or so will also be far better than current prices for a 12th gen system with new mobo and ddr5 scalper prices :s
