- Then Wharfedale Aura 2s look like a great speaker. However, at 2k for the speakers and an astonishing £1000 for the stands, are they worth buying?

Cool intro! Erin's audio corner reviewed these and he loved them! He almost never give good reviews on speakers. Go for them!
I upgrades to the aura 2’s from the Wharfedale evo 4.2’s. it was a huge improvement. Well worth it. The Wharfedale stands are large, imposing and quite ugly. Even the dealer thought they were too much and I didn’t buy them. I use 18” mono price stands which seem to work well.
Is the midrange better than the 4.2 Evos?
@@masterchef6694 I find the sound to be very balanced. More detail, bigger soundstage and fuller sound than the 4.2’s.
@@janthonycaldwell643 thanks for the reply.
Best video intro EVER! 🙂
Keep your speakers. For better sound, try to put in a thick carpet. Your room sounds harsh with those tiles.
Keep your tiles & get some more poncy sound deadening!
I wouldn't pay 2000 pounds for any speaker. I love Whatfedales and had a demo of the Evo 4.2 about 3 years ago. They were great but didn't get them in the end. I would look at 12.3 / 4 with matching centre speaker. Keep up the great videos, real reviews in the real world. By the way I have Atmos speakers on the wall downward firing, they do much more that way than upward firing.
Yes, they are much better up on the wall. 👍
You would be better off spending on the speakers. Leave all the cables, fuses nonsense. The amplifiers, dacs, streamers can be had for next to nothing these days. My speakers were £4500 and I have been using them with a Audiolab 6000 a play that cost me £599 brand new. The speakers sound amazing in my modest room. I have used a the blue sound node , WiiM mini, instead of the play-fi, but it’s not really worth the bother. I have tried three different dacs from about £200 to £1000, but the one in my the amp is no different. The speakers is where you will get the gains, but throwing money won’t necessarily get you quality. Erin’s audio is the place to check out.
With 2000 pounds as your budget you have quite a number of really good speakers to consider beside the Aura 2's; the Polk R700 (spinal injury), Q Acoustics Concept 50 (on sale now), Wharfedale 85th Anniversary Linton (stands come with the speakers)... Have I made your decision easier? Lol. Any one of them, depending on your taste, might well be 'end game' speakers for you.
But no matter what you buy you'll need to update your amp too, while the current set up is fine with the amps you have. My suggestion is to give a thought to buying some really good speakers from the past that can now be had for a fraction of their initial price. Mordaunt Short Mezzo 8's, Wharfedale Evo 40's, etc?
$2g is a great deal for that product to me, but I can do without the stands. People say, "nothing else will fit": try me. I can find what I need for under $500. I have used cinder blocks with a blanket on top for years with my Totem Rainmakers. Neither Evo 4.4s nor Diamond 12.4s had done it for me.
I hope you are well. I have had my Oberon 5s for over a year now. Run by a Denon 900 HNE. I just sent a set of 4.2s back. The Oberons are so natural and musical sounding. The 4.2s bass is not my style much different than the 5s and Diamond 225s, which was my go to for a very long time. I also have a set of Denton 85ths run by a Marantz PM 8006. The 85ths are better than the 4.2s. The Oberons and 85ths sound more natural and musical then the 4.2s. The 4.2s sound forced and not cohesive. Yes with Adele the 4.2s are stunning but you have to find music the 4.2s like. The 85ths are at least equal to the 5s. I would suggest no on the Aura 2s. Remember you picked the Oberons over the Evos. Try the 85ths or keep what you have and upgrade your amp. A better amp is cheaper and will make the Oberons or the Qs sing. My 85ths are seductive with the PM, and the Oberons are better than the 4.2s with the Denon, the bass is deeper and textured. Good luck.
Keep the Dali's, get some rugs / carpet, soften the acoustics a bit maybe ?
Well you like Wharfdale sound so you are going in right direction. Not buying stand is very good choice. I just bought a Monoprice cherry wood stand that can hold those for way cheaper. You only live once so go for it. I think the wood gloss version of that speaker is beautiful and will look like an expensive piece of art in your home.
I’ve mounted my wharfedale atmos speakers on the wall above my front wharfedale diamond 12.3s and they really work well. On to your aura’s, yes they are amazing and have fantastic sound staging. Would I buy them to use in a 3.1 system, probably not. I think my diamond 12.3s are more than adequate. This said if you’re going to use the Aura’s for music, really research what they work well with, otherwise you could end up down a rabbit hole.
Yeah, I rarely use it for cinema surround, I mostly listen to stereo music.
Mount your atmos speakers where the wall and the ceiling meet, makes a amazing difference
If you move around while listening to music, don't get these or the Evo 4.2. The horizontal and vertical axis window for best sound is really tiny. I really like my Evo 4.2 speakers, but I would like a bit more treble. They are very relaxed.
A speaker can only be as good as the conditions they are played in. Acoustic treatment would probably benefit you more in the long run 👍🏻 Also, you would need to find a centre speaker with a similar sound signature so movies dont sound mis-matched. Thanks for another upload, keep em coming! 💪
I’m considering the Aura 2 speakers too, I would say go for it if you haven’t already. As for stands I bought the Atacama Moseco XL600 (£300ish) which are perfect for most bookshelf speakers thanks to its large and thick top plate. The base is made from wood so it will look great if you choose the walnut aura 2.
How do you listen to music or movies with all those hard surfaces creating that bloody echoing?
I lay my kids on the floor. They do wonders for the acoustics!
I would buy the wharfdale 85th aniversary put them on second hand speaker stands connect them to your yamaha 501 and you will have a pretty good set up I would keep your q acoustic 3020i speakert and connect them to your rotel amp add a sub and you will enjoy great sound having to sets of speakers and amps means you will enjoy a different sound. Sometimes it becomes boring to listen to the same sound every day . I have 3 sets of speakers and 3 different amps and I love them all . Got any questions love to offer my advice. I have been into this game for the last 50 years . Cheers
I agree with the crowd. Wait. Within a year they'll probably come out with a new version then the ones you like will be more affordable. That being said, I'm not sure i would use them as part of a surround. They'd sound fine but they really shine, like most Wharfies as 2.1 music setup. It's send as part of a TV surround much if their talent would be missed.
You may as well buy them because in your head you already have! It only hurts if you struggle 😂
😂😂
I would wait for a while as with wharfdale soon drop in price I've seen the Linton's with stand's demos for a thousand pounds just waiting pays off 👍
Wow you hit really hard this time my Man. I think no ! do not buy them for now
Erin’s audio would beg to differ.
Steve, don’t listen to anything he says. Salesman.
Have you ever heard Martin Logan 15I or 35i speakers? 'The Audiophile Man' reviewed the 15i and he loved them ❤️ and has recommended them in several videos. Said they sounded much more expensive than $449 for each speaker. I bought them and they blew away a half dozen other speakers I tried.
I have been very satisfied for over a year now. I have continued to upgrade my electronics and these speakers always reveal the improvements. They are 40% off or about 270 US dollars per speaker now and the 35Is are about $350 per speakers. Low-cost way to get High end sound from a high end speaker manufacturer.
If you live in Europe as me, other very very very interesting option: Revival Audio Atalante 3. A lot of sound demos from Asia. I love the sound. Atalante 5 is too much BIG.
If those Wharfdale Aura 2's last as long as the Wharfedales from the past that were made years ago do, I have a pair that have only needed recapping in 50 years, then they are definitely worth the price of admission .. Wharfedale 👍
Your really channeling everett in this video.
😄
I don't think it is necessary. You should keep your Oberon.
Here's my take for what it's worth, I bought a pair of Evo 2s a couple of years ago for $1,000.00 and their a decent speaker, stands ran an extra $300.00.Now Wharfedale comes out with the Auras, and on the surface the only improvement I can see over the Evo is a couple inch larger midrange driver, is that worth a thousand dollers more?
I believe that the Aura has some components taken from their Elysian flagship speakers. The drivers are woven glass fibre as opposed to Kevlar in the Evo and the crossover is also closer to the Elysian and spread over 2 boards to reduce electromagnetic cross-pollution.
I’d buy them and try them. Then decide if the it’s sonically worth the outlay. Actually…buy another pair of cheaper speakers at the same time and see if the cheaper ones suffice.
Personally I’d like to try some arendles
I think your intro was in reaction to finding out the cost of the Wharfdale speaker stands, which should not cost 1000 pounds. That is nutso. Erin from Erin's Audio Corner just measured/reviewed these also.
I like the Dovedales, but they're like 7k, and I still prefer my Rosedales. I can't afford a 10k level pair of speakers at this point. Even 2k is not an option. Just glad my old stuff is staying in the game. I have a 2K level set of speakers that are 20+ years newer, but that's what I'm going to be stuck with if
my older Wharfedales deteriorated. At this point, both sets of speakers are old, and me too, so who knows who's going outlive who!
Hello Marty, I dare to say we only live once. Get yourself good speakers (aura 2) with a decent stereoamp use them also for movies, you wont miss dolby atmos.
I spent £4500on my speaker, with no stands, but boy are they good. Most important thing in the system.
What speakers do you have?
I wouldn't pay 1000 quid for a pair of matching stands for sure ! For that kind of extra money I would rather buy the Aura 3s floorstanders, two 5-in woofers instead of one 6-in on the 2s.
I used to own martin logan electro motion esl speakers 3750 and they did sound phenomenal on certain recordings but not all and the bass was not good so I flogged them ever since all my speakers have been home demo only warfdale denton 80th crap sound artist ls3 5a crap and various other so I purchased a hand made pair of speakers and they sound better in my room than anything else I tried yet 180 quid i kid you not it's your room and it's partnering equipment that creates system synergy
Wharfedale like to cut their prices after a year or two. Heck even today i can get these new for 1600 euros (no stands) here in BG
Personally, I wouldn’t even consider buying them without an audition preferably using the amp you will drive them with. I’m also not sure that I could ever go back to 3.1 for the cinema (currently running 7.1 in mine without atmos). If it was me, I would look at a way to either deploy ceiling atmos or smaller satellites that you could mount high on the walls. Regarding the stands, they are probably so expensive because they don’t expect to sell many and the production costs will be higher due to that (just a guess)
I listen to music more than movies so I find myself listening to the AV system in stereo most of the time.
@@UTILITARIANTVUK ah, I got myself a dedicated stereo set up in the lounge with the DALI Oberon 5’s and a full KEF 7.1 for the cinema with a dedicated AV Amp for cinema and dedicated stereo amp for the hifi. I live on my own so I have no one to complain about ‘all the speakers’ lol
@@alanharris2799 I have to have wife approval! 😄
Consider to buy a nice modern carpet.
Yup, room treatment is on my to do list! 👍

I like these the Monitor Audio Gold 5G 200 Floor Standing Speakers 👍🥊🥊🥊🤣
depreciation will be horrendous. I'd be looking at ATC, PMC & Spendor.
Do they sound better, I very much doubt they measure better. Why would you need to sell them, if they sound amazing.
@@r423sdex How many pairs of spkrs have you been through?
that's what this hobby is all about right?, keep switching things around until you find out what your happy with for the long-haul. and then when you're there, you just buy stuff just to experience it and see if you missed anything.. at least while you have a positive cash flow anyway lol
If I did pull the trigger, they would definitely be the speakers I'd keep for many years (if I liked them!)
@@UTILITARIANTVUK
😎👍
I would put my money in some nice persian carpets. That floor looks like a nightmare for a music room. 😰🫣😂
No, the Wharfedales looks like a super nice speaker. I trust Erin the most, or his machine rather since I dont trust anyones ears but mine... least of all audio reviewers! But at £2000? Nah... Not unless you know its a life long love! What kind of used deals can be had for £2000? 🫢🤫
I would wait a few months and see if the craving is still there.
But if you buy them, please tear them apart so we can see whats inside! 😝
I might buy the speakers and throw down some hay!
@@UTILITARIANTVUK gotta think outside of the box!
I would want to listen to the speakers first. At best at a hifi-shop, or at least via a sound sample on youtube (gives you some kind of impression, if the sound signature ist to your liking).
And the most important thing: Don't buy too fast! Wait for more reviews and feedback form users.
You read my mind! Unfortunately, none of the HiFi stores near me have them in stock yet. So yes, I will have to play the waiting game.
The $1000 speaker stands from Wharfdale remind me of apples $1000 monitor stand. It’s just a cash grab!
Lovely right cross fella!
IMO, don't do it!
Find a way to wall mount the wharfdales up high, the difference is crazy!
What's the problem with placing your rears?
There's a kitchen on the other side! 😄
@@UTILITARIANTVUK bloody kitchens!
@@SimonBrayEarthdog Tell me about it, who needs them! 😄
Trouble is mate, the speakers might be awesome, but if you don't quite like the aqoustics of them and think it might be your amp and so on, you're going to be cought in a long journey to replace the rest of your gear ..just my two peneth worth of thought that is..but your right though. we're only here once .😂
If I was you but.i would have a look at Vienna acoustics for that kind of money.
Can’t you get a demonstration of those Wharfedales first?
At the moment it's difficult as no local supplier stocks them.
@@UTILITARIANTVUK Any chance of getting them on approval online? £2000 is such a big outlay on the opinions of others.
Ohh this itching. Too familiar.
I may have to scratch!!
If listening to your system you think "it can sound better", then you can take the risk and sell everything for Wharfedale, if you are happy with everything now, then there is no need to take risks.
What's the best way to sell audio equipment that's no longer required?
@@thomasalexand, eBay, most likely.
If I were you I'd get them and see if they sound good to you in your room. If not, you can always return them to the dealer. Just don't buy the stands, way too much money in my opinion.
Well I wouldn't spend £2000 ON any speakers unless I had an amplifier to drive them and as you know that could cost thousands
The Wharfedale Aura's will need a very powerful amplifier to sound their best. It is a 4 ohm nominal load ( 3 drivers and crossover filters all in parallel). Unlesss you get an amp of the calibre of a Krell K300i or Leema Tucana you are just wasting your time.
Having reached a certain age, I am no longer interested in accruing more stuff. Reducing the amount of speakers you have is a great idea. I would NOT buy those wharfdales for $3000... I'd rather go on a trip to somewhere and have experiences. Stands are an absolute ripoff but, then again, much of the audiophile world seems to be full of ways to take your money.
nope , i keep the oberon’s 5
pull the trigger, buy Dali Oberon 9
If I had a bigger room, I would Def consider them.
Not worth it for cinema setup bonkers price 🥊🥊🥊🤣
I prefer an actual sound demo even through youtube rather than an all talk no action review no mater by who or of what but that is me
