Thank you so much! I requested this and can't believe you did it You are outstanding As I have said before you have a teaching skill. I am going to wire a new light bar, to double box already being used for overhead light. It never got finished, only one switch in it.. I am more confident watching many of you videos. Thank You
hopefully somebody can answer this. Why do I need a 12/3 wire to convert when you can wire a single pole light switch to light fixture using 12/2 wires. I don't understand this.
Thanks for the very clear and concise videos! One question. If you did not plan on adding a "smart switch" then could you do the "switch" leg with 12/2 wire instead of 12/3 wire by using the white wire in place of the red wire i.e., recode white for "hot"? I know it's kind of confusing but then you don't need to buy a roll of 12/3 maybe? Thanks again.
@@spdfreak-iw6gp Actually, the NEC code 2020 requires 3 wire cable going to a switch and you cap off the white wire with a wire nut.I guess why they do this nowadays is you don’t have to paint the white wire black, and you have an extra wire if in the future you want to install a combination power outlet with a switch and possibly a charging port/switch combo. Also if you want to install a ceiling fan in the future, you have an extra wire you could use for a speed/light control.
This video is great! What would you do if the pull chain light has has two 12/2 wire wires going into the pull chain light? There is another 12/2 wire going to another source. Can you still install a light switch to this light?
Does this also work for ceiling fans lights? I want to eliminate the pull chain on my ceiling fan light and keep it with just my wall light dinmer switch
You have a much better youtube video that explains a better way to add a light switch if you "only need to add the switch and nothing else and that is called " How To Wire A Single Pole Light Switch Circuits 3 Different Ways (2022) DIY Tutorial For Beginners!" you should PIN that link on here.
Can I take power from a led pot light fixture/junction box that’s already on its own single pole switch and send power from led junction box/light fixture to a new power switch to power a new led pot light in closet ?if so this would be very helpful I looked through all your videos couldn’t find anything .
where are you pulling your power from? your sticky arrow shows a 12/2 as your incoming power source, but where does that 12/2 continue on to? did you connect that to a breaker into a panel? or is it just a plug on the other end?
Question couldn’t we just use 12 two and hook the height from the power source to the hot to the switch and then use your white wire on the 12 two from the switch back back up to the neutral on the light
Sir, I have a new pull chain light that has a black, white and ground wire. I want to connect it to a plug to plug it into an outlet, but the plug I purchased only has a black and white wire. How can I make this work?
So for converting an existing pull chain fixture, I need to add: 1 toggle switch + J-box, some 14-3 wire, a standard light fixture, and another junction box to make all these joins. Makes sense! I thought I had to reroute power to totally different location, but switch and 14-3 wire act as an interrupt there!
after following your video, I was able to get the light switch working. However, when the switch is in the on position, both red and black show a current going through and when it's in the off position, both red and black show a current going through them. is this normal?
It’s so that you have a neutral available in the future. Smart switches require a neutral wire in order to work, so if you’re ever going to upgrade to a smart switch, it would be best to use the 14-3. If you’re never going to install a smart switch, then 14-2 will do the job just fine!
Thank you so much! I requested this and can't believe you did it

Thank you so much for allowing me to create this video from your suggestion! 🙏🏽 I wish you all the best on your project! 😊
great video, no fumbling in the dark for a pull chain anymore. i watched this a couple of times and did the conversion. thank you.
That's simple ,he helped you maybe he will help me.
I just installed an attic switch, replacing my pull chain switch. Thanks to your video, I was able to do the job with ease. Thank you!
Your tutorial is the best I've seen re electric
Awesome tutorial on how to get this type of job done. You are a great instructor. Much appreciated 🙏
This was so helpful. Exactly what I was looking for, thank you 🙏.
You cannot believe it but my attic light is just like that and away from the door so this is just perfect. Thanks and keep it up.
Thank you! I’m glad I could be of help! 🙏🏽😊

That’s what I was thinking too
Looking for the answer to this from the creator of this video.
He could have just used 12-2 no need for 12-3 but good video otherwise

Thanks again my parents home has these old chains that need to be changed .
Glad I could be of help bother! 🙏🏽😊👍🏽
Great demonstration. If I wanted the switch to control multiple lights, would 14/3 be ran between the fixtures?
Of course.
Great explanation! Thank you so much. You have shown me this project is much easier than expected! :)
I’m glad I could be of help Scott! 🙏🏽😊
Good video but technically you can use a 12-2 instead of the 12-3 for the switch? thanks

Thank you for all your help, but what it the pull switch is in the middle of an electrical line? How would you convert it to a flip light switch?
Does this also work for ceiling fans lights? I want to eliminate the pull chain on my ceiling fan light and keep it with just my wall light dinmer switch
On my do list...thanks

Preexisting wired in lighting so from the breaker / power source
Hey I need a video on how to wire light with switch and 2 outlets into power… 2 outlets constant power
Please
Can you use 12/2 instead of 12/3
Question couldn’t we just use 12 two and hook the height from the power source to the hot to the switch and then use your white wire on the 12 two from the switch back back up to the neutral on the light
Can u use both? Pull out and switch at the same time
Excellent!
Thank you!! 👍🏽🙏🏽😊
Question couldn’t we use 12two and use the white as the switch leg down at the switch instead of of getting 12 3
Do you have any videos on how instal a manual transfer switch for small generator looking to do one outside
I will look into it and put it on my to do list Brotha 🙏🏽😊
You are the best 👍
Thank you! 🙏🏽😊
Would you please explain how to wire a 3 way switch with multiple lights

What would you do different with a 15amp circuit? 3:22
Just use 14/3 and 14/2 wire instead of 12/2 and 12/3. Probably too late anyways though😅

If you have a power source to a pull switch, and it has another line going to outlets, lights ECT how can you, get rid of the pull switch hello
after following your video, I was able to get the light switch working. However, when the switch is in the on position, both red and black show a current going through and when it's in the off position, both red and black show a current going through them. is this normal?
14/2 all day.
U good
What about if I have 3 black and 3 white before I add the 12-3 wire
From my limited understanding something is being piggy backed. Whats the fix for this
How do i run a light fixture from a light switch ?
GERAT
how about deep lights or ceiling lights
Why you are using a 12-3 wire to hook up the switch.
This whole time I'm watching this video thinking why did he use 14-3. A 14-2 would of done the job with less wire.
It’s so that you have a neutral available in the future. Smart switches require a neutral wire in order to work, so if you’re ever going to upgrade to a smart switch, it would be best to use the 14-3. If you’re never going to install a smart switch, then 14-2 will do the job just fine!
