Thanks for the explanation. I see this is an older CPANEL theme.. now with Jupiter theme it's much less intuitive and more confusing especially Domain management.
You explain this well- thank you! So, are Addon domains & Subdomains just convenient features added on by webhosts in the last 15 years or so to make adding domains easier? Or what is the real purpose and use for them- especially the Addon domains?
Addon domains are necessary and convenient for people to host different websites under different domains under 1 control panel. You can have multiple websites and domains in separate control panels, which will require something like a reseller panel or VPS, or higher. Subdomains are totally optional and not used that often for the majority of bloggers I think.
You do not need to buy or register subdomain, you just need to add the subdomain to cpanel hosting. Here's a video on how to install a site on subdomain: ruclips.net/video/dJJUJqgSgZQ/видео.html
Thank you for the video. May i ask you something: When you install subdomains and addons domain this way, you make something like multisite or? Can you install the subdomain and the addon with separate installation, so you can enter the wordpress with different username and password and make the addons or subdmaon as separate installation and sites?
You can do either. Setup individual wordpress in each subdomain or folder. You can use multi-site too with 1 wordpress install and run many users with their own wp installs under 1 main wp database. Something like wpmudev.com/
i have a question so whenever we add a subdomain or addons domain we need it to register the subdomain/addons domain so that we can view the website on internet? and if we register the addons domain/subdomain it will cost another dollar? i hope you can answer my question and thank you very much sir
It does not cost any money to create subdomains. Addon domains, you do need to register and pay whatever the fees are for .com, net, etc, then you need to change the nameservers to your hosting service before using it as an addon domain. I made a video showing these steps for addon domains from bluehost: ruclips.net/video/oIh_QnRSopg/видео.html
Multisite is for creating a network of wordpress blogs with your main wordpress installation. Most bloggers will never need multisite unless you plan to allow users create their own blogs with their own themes on your site.
@@HowToWebmaster Thanks for the reply. I was thinking it was for having one site and then having a bunch of niche sites in it. Like fashion.mysite.com, marketing.mysite.com, games.mysite.com, etc.
Yeah, you can possibly use multisite for that purpose as well to build multiple niches under 1 domain. I would recommend building niche sites on different domains though.

The concept of domain, subdomain, and addon domain is the same even though the layout or page design is different.
So good to understand the basics especially if you are wanting to know what an Addon Domain is. Thank you!!!
You're very welcome!
simple and good teacher

You did not explain the purpose of them in conjunction with your main domain or site.
Addon domains are separate websites from your main domain.

You can access all the new addon domains and subdomains with your main account login. You don't actually create new accounts for these.
please suggest new ideas
Suggest new ideas about what and for you or for me? LOL
What are wordpress multisites? Some software I am looking at (FS Poster plugin) says it supports WP multisite. What is that?
