  • I have covered Chris Stapleton twice before, and both times were absolute treats. It's been over a year, and I've had your requests sitting on a list I'm finally getting back to! This song comes from a grammy and CMA winning album by Chris that was not only certified platinum, but sat at #2 on the US Billboard charts and #1 in Canada. I know why. It's so super dang good!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Chris Stapleton performing for the first time "I Was Wrong".

I’m a huge metal head and a guitarist of 27 years but let me tell you, I’ve seen Chris Stapleton several times in concert and the guy is one of the most talented people on the planet. His song writing, guitar playing and vocals are incredible and the shows he puts on are just awesome. Chris wrote a ton of songs for other country singers for years until his wife told him he should write his own stuff. He also has immense stage fright but you could never tell. Dude is lightning in a bottle and just far exceeds what I once thought about him.

Chris is country, Chris is blues, Chris is rock, Chris is soul. The true measure of the greats is an inability to fit them comfortably in any given genre. With this song specifically, you could tell me it came from Motown or Sun Studios in the 60's and I'd believe you. The purity of the blues and soul in this song are timeless. Truly one of the greats

Another great bluesy Stapleton song is “Cold”. Also check out his Metallica cover of “Nothing Else Matters”. And his cover of “Whipping Post”. Man, I can’t recommend enough songs by this guy. He is just too good, and I’m not even a big country guy. Even though he’s technically country, the fact that he is so heavily rock, blues, and folk is what makes him so good. That and his amazing voice! Because country is so popular, the fact that he is even the least bit country and labeled as such is what makes him so damn popular and why so many people have discovered him and fallen in love with his music.

He'll be remembered as one of the greats of all time. Usually you like music because it affects you emotionally with great songs and writing and singing. But every once in a while, you get someone who you just are in awe over. Someone other great musicians just watch and say, what?! They come out there and do things that are so extraordinary, yet make it look effortless and no one else can do it. People like Pavarotti or Karen Carpenter or Celine Dion or Freddie Mercury. They cross music genres too, taste-wise. Meaning, people who may not be into their genre make an exception for them because you just have to.

Imagine the solo parts at the end as the arguments they had it their relationship. The repetition are the words that were said over and over again.

His guitar playing seems very influenced by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. The massive whole step bends and also starting the note itself to an already bent position and slowing decending down to the original unbent position. It’s nothing but pure awesome

It does have a Gilmour/Pink Floyd vibe to it. You read my mind.. Imagine if Roger Waters and David Gilmour get back together, resolve their differences and see Chris Stapleton play. They'll be beyond impressed.

Glad you are back to Chris! Love this song. Here's a few more for variety: Look into "Either Way" live on the Charlie Rose Show (Grammy Winner) Stunning. Also "Cold", performed live on the 2021 CMA's (also a grammy winner)- a Masterfull performance. Then "Gotta get down to Arkansas" live at the CMT Awards in 2021. There are soooo many more worth you time...

The perfect accompaniment to Chris's voice is his amazing guitar work... He doesn't play in support of his voice - he performs an amazing duet with the instrument ... Both switching the lead and support between flawlessly.

I've said it before and I will say it again, he is amazingly gifted and talented. This song. The only thing I can say is that it is one of those songs that gets down deep inside of you and crawls all over. In a GOOD way. LOVE it !! I haven't seen all of your videos, but if you haven't heard his earlier work with the Jompson Brothers or the Steeldrivers. I HIGHLY recommend.

I’ve been to two of Chris’ concerts in Indy near where I live. I’ll tell you right now, no concert I’ve ever been to, no artist I’ve ever heard live is better or puts on a better show than him. I’ve never heard another artist sound better live than him. He is truly one of the greatest artist of the last 25 years.

The promise of a great guitar solo drew me in to give Chis Stapleton a listen here, for the first time, as I'm not a fan of country music generally. But wowser! As I listened, his sound reminded me a little bit of a blend of Willie Nelson and Robert Cray. I love the nod to blues in this and that guitar solo was so gorgeous! Thanks Elizabeth. 😍

Elizabeth, I always start out early in your analysis/reaction giving you a thumbs up, but as the song goes on, I'm so disappointed that I can't give you another, and another, and another. Your joy causes me to appreciate the songs on an even deeper level than I previously had. It's just awesome to see someone have such a total reaction to the emotion of every aspect of a song! Thank you for bringing light!

Hello Charismatic Voice, once again I kindly ask if you could analyze the voice of Joe Cocker, he is a legend though often underrated, probably one of the most powerful rock n roll voices ever in his time, up there with all the greats. Give it a listen you won't regret it.
