Two who songs were used as themes for cop shows, so he’s really a contemporary of theirs. But they’re acknowledging that Mike Post is the master of the form - making music for shows that take people out of their miserable worlds for an hour or so every night.
This is from the DVD that came with the CD, which means they were playing this live before the album's release. It's a great song, but the band doesn't seem comfortable playing it live. This is common for most bands, that's why set lists often change mid-tour.
I just clicked on this because I was watching an episode of the old TV show "Tales of the Gold Monkey", and then I saw in the closing credits that the theme was, of course, composed by ... Mike Post. If not for Pete Townshend and this song, I would have never given it a second thought, but now I'm always pleasantly surprised when I see the name come up. This is a cool song, but unfortunately this version is a bit weak due to the mix. There was a great version up when Endless Wire was new...
He creates themes for TV shows that resonate with everyone and provide a constant in life while growing older and changing. Also with two Who songs being used as themes to hit cop shows (“Looks like Miami’s got a…”), Perhaps they feel like showing him some due respect.
I love the Who, and I love the TV themes of Mike Post, and I had great hopes for this. With the exception of "Squeezebox," this may be the worst Who tune of all time.

Beautiful.
Fantastic idea, to put up these reviews. I agree with you totally on Endless Wire.
I hope you get a lot of hits.

Haha, shit. I actually like this song, I had no idea people didn't like it. Oh well.

The studio version of this is a great power-rocker, but I don't think it works live.
+Ben Lanz not really that way on the record, imo.
