Bladee is actually a really talented writer. You should check out 333 or Crest. Or even The Fool. He gets really spiritual on those, and the overall vibe is more light.
I feel like you got half of the idea of "Drain" in this, which makes sense because this album is heavily on one side of bladee's discography stylistically. "Drain" isn't exclusively about feeling drained, or losing something - it's actually about the exchange of energy. One of the many taglines of drain is "Loss and Gain is the Same"; just as you can be drained, you can also drain other things. Bladee describes draining the night of its essence, etc. to essentially say that the feeling of being alive is a reciprocal loss/gain relationship between you and the world. To be drained is to understand what Bladee means by that.
*38:00* when someone says “you keep playing” or “you play too much” in that context it means they don’t take u seriously, so he’s saying that this person doesn’t take him seriously enough in terms of a relationship, they just want something casual while he actually cares about them.
The thing that I love about side by side is that thaiboy definitely wrote the song for the girl that he then married and had kids with. Also sung the song for her at their wedding. So wholesome
I will say, Bladee's style is heavily based off the fact that sweden isnt a big scene for rap. And when he was making his stuff, he didnt want to just copy american rap, he wanted to represent growing up in such a cold and detatched country from the rest of the world. and I think that does a ton for his music.
you would love the fool by bladee. The lyrics on that album are more thought provoking and spiritual but theyre still fun elements to it lol. It's also just a cleaner sound thats more enoyable by non drainers lmao
man idk why your discord didn’t put you on to Cold Visions instead, gotta say Icedancer is possibly the worst bladee album for you to start with. Lyrically it's probably one of his messiest - cus believe it or not but people definitely do listen to bladee for the lyrics. Thing with bladee tho is that he’s put out so much music and lyrically his albums kinda build upon each other so a lot of it is quite intertextual and self-referential and he assigns a lot of personal meaning to words, numbers and phrases like drain, glue, shield, gravity, trash, 3, eat the night, rainworld, 9, redlight, etc. I'm not saying you have to listen to his discography chronologically to understand it but a lot of things that might seem like random nonsense at first does mean something in the drain gang universe so to speak. ”Drain” has been a concept in bladee’s music since about 2015 I believe. In 2018 he described it like this: _“Drain is about loss and gain; it could be good or bad -- you could be drained of energy or you could drain something to gain energy. There’s financial, emotional and physical drains, for example -- you could just be draining your bank account at the store. It doesn’t have to be deep. Basically, if I’m talking about “eating the night” that means I drain it for its essence. Everything me and my bros do is connected to that concept -- we might drain some blood for good fortune.”_ (Drain Gang also happens to have some real life lore connected to hidden underground tunnels… in the sewer all alone, that’s my home.....) Most of his albums are quite different from each other tho and I think it would be cool for you to see the contrast, really hope you’ll consider checking out some more of his stuff like Cold Visions (produced mostly by F1lthy who is indeed the same guy who did Whole Lotta Red) or perhaps The Fool.
I love your videos because you just get it. You capture the energy of the music perfectly and despite recognizing you cannot relate to this mood, you know who might relate and who this is made for/by.
Bob, as popular as this album is, it's strictly because it sticks to trap conventions/mainstream sounds around the middle of bladees career. Consider how much personality this album conveys versus the traditional album in this style. He is quite ambitous and varied with his sound while keeping a similar feel throughout. also a very underrated lyricist, that this project gives glimpses of, but not a full picture of. it's best to view him as a singer/songwriter, dreampop artist rather than a 'rapper', to really see the full vision. an album like Crest or 333 is a good glimpse of the other side of his sound. love
my interpretation of the "6 upside down. that's a 9" line is that it's a reference to the drain gang motif "loss and gain is the same" i think it's basically saying that you can flip something bad into something good. 9 is referenced a lot but you'll have to have a drain scholar decipher it better
If you want a more positive listen by bladee, hit up "The Fool" Most of his albums portray different emotions overall and The Fool is more silly and positive, and just something you can relate to !
On cold visions, his most recent album, you can honestly understand what he's saying way better. It's more of a mainstream vibe and you'd probably like it more it's also mostly produced by F1LTHY and Ripsquadd and Bladee sticks to his deeper vocals and they're less washed out
Listen too cold visions it’s his 30 song album surprise dropped a couple days after his 30th birthday he’s been rapping for over 10 years and became popular with yung lean then. Bladee is definitely not an artist whose artist you should ignore. This project isn't his best written one but especially on 333, The Fool, Eversince and maybe Spiderr or Crest. I think people often don't acknowledge that because he isn't easy to understand and most artists in his realm or subgenre often don't have important lyrics. And to really understand the lyrics you have to understand a lot of lingo and concepts on newer albums especially spiritual concepts or beliefs(like Christianity. gnosticism, judaism and some parts of mysticism) Bladee also isn't a storyteller like most rappers who are considered to have good lyrics. Bladee mainly paints pictures and introduces concepts. But not all of Bladee's lyrics are ment fully serious, he's definitely aware of some of his lines sounding silly and he plays with it a lot. Lowkey look into the bladee lyrics too, Bob. Sometimes, he will be talking about some real shit or sometimes you'll hear some dark ass lyrics and it will be like, "Damn is this guy doing good?"
I think you should try Cold Visions by Bladee. It's very different from Icedancer, more rage/trap type of sound with a lot of F1lthy production (he also produced tracks on Playboi Carti's Whole Lotta Red and is notable for his rage beats) and Bladee sounds really good on those beats imo. There's also some interesting and clever writing aswell. Don't be scared that it's 30 songs because it's only an hour long, the tracks are short and flow really well, lots of transitions too. I think you might like that one better, for me personally, it's his best project.
Hey Bob! Bladee is someone that hasn’t all the way clicked for me either, i totally get it. I really dont like Icedancerr much either. One thing i’d say that kept me pushing thru to listen and learn more is the broader conversation of Drain Gang/Sadboys. specifically Yung Lean’s rise and respect in the hip-hop community. All of these guys have been making music in similar circles since at least 2010. Yung Lean blew up on Soundcloud with songs like Kyoto, Gatorade and Ginseng Strip, songs that have such a strange ethereal nostalgic quality to them even today (i think Ginseng Strip became a tiktok trend or something idk). It’s hard to really explain, but there’s something inherently Gen-Z to the entire aesthetic that very few other artists have managed to capture, especially so early. nobody in America at the time had a sound/visual aesthetic like Lean did, and everyone from XXXTentacion to Lil Uzi Vert would shout him out and give respect. its worth pointing out that these guys were basically just european eboys fucking around and making music for fun, the stakes were incredibly low yet they managed to influence the entire revival of the cloud rap sound through the 2010s Lean’s career evolution took some tragic turns around 2014-15ish in America. its not something i feel comfortable speaking on but there’s a really interesting documentary on it. Lean’s career and discography is really worthy of its own coverage. the topics of depression, drug addiction and alienation have taken on many different styles but feel incredibly raw knowing his story. Bladee specifically got to see all the downsides of the music industry, drug addiction and American excess from the sidelines through Lean (they were touring together when everything went down). He never seemed to try to be anything other than the brilliant creative mind from Sweden he knew he could be, and has just been kinda doing his own thing detached from our collective cultural circuit I can’t speak on much of Bladee’s career, discog or influences past this, but the same gen Z ethereal sadness has its own filter through Bladee, and in many ways has its own distinct influences. F1lthy was a longtime collaborator of Bladee before working with Carti. Underground legends like Black Kray have given their cosign years ago. Every alt Gen Z type has had at least one drain gang song on rotation. The influence is insane. I’m sure some proper fans can give more context or correct the info here, but this is the context that hooked me long enough to listen to Cold Visions. Cold Visions will show a much different perspective on his sound and themes 🙏🏽 easily one of the hardest hitting rage album of the year so far
5:10 thats 1 thing I love about bladee 6:30 hell yeah 10:07 spot on 19:56 oh thats what he does pretty often 24:32 so accurate 29:22 no let me tell you first time finding out about bladee was special 41:40 nooo Bladees part on this lowkey sooo good but I understand it Cartiers part definitely weird and not pleasurable at first
I recommend Cold Visions, probably his best produced album yet (and probably the one that's the easiest to listen to) with lots of variety and its a bit easier to make out what he's saying since he uses less autotune on it. He also did a psychedelic rock album with Yung Lean a couple of months ago called Psykos (Swedish for psychosis) that you might like, it has a lot of great lyrics imo and Bladee especially has a great performance on it imo
one of the main themes of this album is Bladee reflecting on his destructive methods of coping through spending money and abusing substances. Some lines definitely seem to make no sense when cherrypicked, but in the context of the Stanza or full song, in a lot of cases they tend to make a lot more sense. For example on "Close" he says "I been staying in my head tripping, nobody knows." Which at first could seem like just a mindless drug related lyric, the same way a lot of lines were interpreted through the review. But a few lines later Bladee says "Hide my wounds like im a pro, now they won't even show. You've been saving up for months, Ima blow it on clothes" Which imo could give a second meaning to the first lyric mentioned, that Bladee isn't only tripping on substances, but could be caught up "tripping" thinking about the past, and how at this point in time the only way he's figured out how to cope with it is blowing bands on fendi (double f no GG). I think he is highlighting that flexing currency is always coming from a place of insecurity, and if u check out his next albums you can see how his mindset changes and grows B)
Completely understandable first reaction haha i think most of his fans will get that. Your positives i feel like were accurate but some of your negatives aren't as accurate the more you listen to him and understand his style. He has many dif style that aren't the same at all and he has alot of deeper poetic lyrics if you get into them and aren't dismissing them from the beginning. Glad you finally checked him out tho, ppl know it's an acquired taste.
hey bob, on a serious note!!!! i think you'd love the lyrical content of The Fool by bladee. A lot of a bouncier sound i feel that you're more used to and the topics of spirituality and existentialism really hit home. Regardless, keep the good reactions up!

It’s hard to really explain, but there’s something inherently Gen-Z to the entire aesthetic that very few other artists have managed to capture, especially so early. nobody in America at the time had a sound/visual aesthetic like Lean did, and everyone from XXXTentacion to Lil Uzi Vert would shout him out and give respect. its worth pointing out that these guys were basically just european eboys fucking around and making music for fun, the stakes were incredibly low yet they managed to influence the entire revival of the cloud rap sound through the 2010s
Lean’s career evolution took some tragic turns around 2014-15ish in America. its not something i feel comfortable speaking on but there’s a really interesting documentary on it.
He never seemed to try to be anything other than the brilliant creative mind from Sweden he knew he could be, and has just been kinda doing his own thing detached from our collective cultural circuit
I can’t speak on much of Bladee’s career, discog or influences past this, but the same gen Z ethereal sadness has its own filter through Bladee, and in many ways has its own distinct influences.
Cold Visions will show a much different perspective on his sound and themes 🙏🏽 easily one of the hardest hitting rage album of the year so far
im not a fan of how u disregarded the lyrics completely
5:10 thats 1 thing I love about bladee
6:30 hell yeah
10:07 spot on
19:56 oh thats what he does pretty often
24:32 so accurate
29:22 no let me tell you first time finding out about bladee was special
41:40 nooo Bladees part on this lowkey sooo good but I understand it Cartiers part definitely weird and not pleasurable at first
lol u on every reaction video for bladee I swear
I recommend Cold Visions, probably his best produced album yet (and probably the one that's the easiest to listen to) with lots of variety and its a bit easier to make out what he's saying since he uses less autotune on it. He also did a psychedelic rock album with Yung Lean a couple of months ago called Psykos (Swedish for psychosis) that you might like, it has a lot of great lyrics imo and Bladee especially has a great performance on it imo
need more Bladee reaction Bob 🙏
(Check his "Red Light" Album out)
Why wasn’t this the fool or cold visions 😭😭😭😭😭😭💔
i said the exact same thing lol
one of the main themes of this album is Bladee reflecting on his destructive methods of coping through spending money and abusing substances.
Ya'll should read the Genius "About track" on Apple by Bladee... Whoever wrote that is OG drain evangelist.
bladee effect… worst music u will ever hear, and then u cant stop listening. happened to me back in 2017 its real
real chain
real

Completely understandable first reaction haha i think most of his fans will get that. Your positives i feel like were accurate but some of your negatives aren't as accurate the more you listen to him and understand his style. He has many dif style that aren't the same at all and he has alot of deeper poetic lyrics if you get into them and aren't dismissing them from the beginning. Glad you finally checked him out tho, ppl know it's an acquired taste.
he a lyrical miracle don’t worry
No way we got Bob on Bladee hell yeah, need me the Eversince and Spiderr reactions next!

I think you're gonna like Cold Visions or Crest the most, they're very different tho
i listen to bladee for his lyrics, the genius annotation can really suck or be very wrong though so watch out
hey bob, on a serious note!!!! i think you'd love the lyrical content of The Fool by bladee. A lot of a bouncier sound i feel that you're more used to and the topics of spirituality and existentialism really hit home. Regardless, keep the good reactions up!
this is my dune 2 moment
OH MY GOD. This is all I every wanted OML OML OML OML THANK YOU
Hey Bob! Definitely listen to 333 next, you’ll love Whitearmor’s blissful electronic instrumentals, it might remind you of some of Aphex’s work. Also you’ll probably relate a lot more to Bladee from a lyrical stand point, it’s very uplifting and it highlights the beauty of life ✨ wholesome energy
