This has to be one of the most perfectly crafted and beautiful performances I have seen.
What I forgot to say in this comment is that my mom would play this piece on our piano all through my childhood, so this really does feel like a performance made for my soul.

I've been listening to this piece for 45 years; from the time that my mother played it on the piano in our home when I was 6 years old, through to scores of recorded interpretations through the years. Yuja's interpretation melts my heart. I can't stop listening to it. She has reached deep into the very soul of music and of humanity with this glorious performance. I honor her.

yup. that it is. Just a couple of notes played a little different. Some reviewer said it best when adressing her dress choices (paraphrased): "What we see here is not a beautiful woman playing the piano, but a beautiful human playing the piano." #innergreatness For me, this probably the second best performance of a short piece i've ever listened to, only topped by Horovitz's "Träumerei" in Moscow.

I've heard this well known piece of Chopin played many many times. Each one being a tour-de-force and a huge effort, demonstrating colossal pianistic skills as required by Svietoslav Richter,. Yuja Wang plays this piece with effortless ease, showing that it does not need to be played at breakneck speed. And thus, you can hear the wonderful art of the sound that Frederic Chopin paints as the descending arpeggios embrace you ears. It is truly a magnificent performance. And I am in love.

A close friend of mine learned this piece and in my opinion her interpretation of it is absolutely perfect. She took inspiration from this performance but she slowed it down a bit more in the fast bits and I absolutely love it. She doesn't play much anymore but this piece still holds a place in my heart because of her ❤
It's amazing Yuja Wang had this great kind of music appreciation already at the age of 19 which makes her next to her virtuosity and precise interpretation to one of the distinguished piano greats of our time.
Based on the red dress this looks like her Verbier 2010 performance of the waltz, which puts her at around age 23. Her Verbier 2009 (different red dress) was distinctly less mature. Her Carnegie May 14th 2016 encore of this waltz (green dress!) was lovely.
There is, to me, a 'sensual' and obvious emotional connection when playing the piano. "Pressing the keys" is that outward manifestation, coupled with the uncontrollable body movement and facial expressions. Such a joy to have the video as well of incredibly talented musicians to share the experience with.
Whilst I certainly enjoy classical solo piano recitals, they’ve never been my favourite. I enjoy them but have always felt I connect with and really get more engagement from listening to performances on instruments with pitch variation and whilst I do listen to piano, it just doesn’t quite move me in the same way. However, somehow, this throws that right out of the window. In all my years of listening to and playing music I don’t think I ever heard a musician with such a sublime command of dynamics and the tiny spaces between the notes.

Come per tutti i grandi pezzi di musica, quello che importa è quanto il pianista ama il modo in cui lo suonano e non se sia tecnicamente corretto agli occhi dei cosiddetti esperti di musica. Personalmente ho adorato questa versione di un valzer che devo aver ascoltato 100 volte, ma che non ho mai suonato così amorevolmente. è un'esperienza musicale per cui posso solo dire "Grazie Yuja, e grazie You Tube."
By far the most mesmerizing and beautiful interpretation of this Chopin waltz I have ever heard. The way she highlights the base notes at 3:46 adds so much longing and melancholia…. Rubinstein did this too and other pianists too I’m sure but to me, this interpretation is simply above all others.
What a brave interpretation - she plays with the piece without "milking" it too much, or playing it too safe. admittedly i dislike some aspects of this performance but it is a brave one nonetheless. This reminds you that a performance should be a snippet of what came from the heart in a particular moment, no performance is ever "perfect" and should always differ to accommodate the spectrum of emotions felt in that moment in order to sound unique, authentic...
I love it. It will bear all the liberties she takes. Boldest of all, the ff return of the opening melody. This is surely the most passionate of Chopin's waltzes, and benefits from youth.
I think a few words got chopped off there. Can't remember what I meant to say, but 'exuberance' must have come into it. This is the performance of someone who seems as capable of dancing it as playing it. And if that means throwing in a bit of Viennese, so what. Compare with, for example, Kissin.
Every time I hear this version, tears just stream down my face...and I am not usually a very emotional person. It reminded me of my last dance with my ex. Like we both knew it was going to be our last dance.

What a brave interpretation - she plays with the piece without "milking" it too much, or playing it too safe. admittedly i dislike some aspects of this performance but it is a brave one nonetheless.
This reminds you that a performance should be a snippet of what came from the heart in a particular moment, no performance is ever "perfect" and should always differ to accommodate the spectrum of emotions felt in that moment in order to sound unique, authentic...

I love it. It will bear all the liberties she takes. Boldest of all, the ff return of the opening melody. This is surely the most passionate of Chopin's waltzes, and benefits from youth.

I think a few words got chopped off there. Can't remember what I meant to say, but 'exuberance' must have come into it. This is the performance of someone who seems as capable of dancing it as playing it. And if that means throwing in a bit of Viennese, so what. Compare with, for example, Kissin.
She is beautiful. And such mastery of the piano.
Every time I hear this version, tears just stream down my face...and I am not usually a very emotional person. It reminded me of my last dance with my ex. Like we both knew it was going to be our last dance.
She reaches into the soul with such emotion in her playing. Such a skilled young lady! Simply put, a magnificent performance!

Wuja wang is perfect in every way! I know that if she was to park her Rolls-Royce in front of his home, she would be welcomed to come in and play his numerous compositions! One will never find a more professional performer of any Chopin pieces to date!
