freddie was mike`s trainer for his fights against danny williams and clifford ethienne in 2005, tyson had declined really fast and was done by this point, but he is still the fastest heavyweight, imagine the power trainer kevin rooney had to deal with on the mitts everyday in mike`s prime in the 80`s

It's actually not that simple. Theres no question that Mike was tremendously gifted and very well- trained. But he was also the product of a very sophisticated marketing campaign- the first of it's kind - in which he was very carefully matched, and filmed, knocking overmatched fools out. The idea was to market and capitalize on Mike's explosive ability. This footage was then sent to eager Promoters and TV networks. This helped build his reputation and hastened his title shot. Again, this was a sophisticated campaign orchestrated by boxing people who knew what they were doing, and it is all well documented.
@@GAVACHO5150 I cant find your response, but it was Cus D'Amato's intention to make Mike the youngest HW champ ever, that's why they flew through opponents, some of whom were tomato cans. L.Lewis had a much different career trajectory and peaked much later. They did spar together during this time however, as noted during a recent Joe Rogan podcast with L. Lewis. Tyson was a remarkable physical specimen and D'Amato was dying. They knew it was important to move this kid along in a hurry. Mike deserves accolades for his success, but I maintain my opinion that during his prime, he was a supremely gifted, well trained bully (a 'monkey', in fact, in Tyson's own words) , whose meteoric rise was due, in a large part, to sophisticated marketing and match making. This of course, is the recipe for most elite fighters, but it was a newly engineered package at that time. There is a documentary on this very subject, which I will try to find for you.

Lennox Lewis was an amateur until the age of 24 years old beating up on children. Lewis was 1 year older than Tyson....Holyfield was 4 years older than Tyson yet neither of these two fighters could have beaten Trevor Berbick in November 1986. And in regards to Lennox Lewis 'peaking' later than Tyson....rubbish. Tyson and Lewis sparred when they were teenagers.......Tyson knocked Lewis out COLD unconscious for 5 minutes.

When he said he's not only the most explosive and hardest hitting heavyweights but the quickest is saying a lot with the heavyweights he worked with that had good speed counter punching like james Tony who started out as a middleweight and gained weight and fought at heavyweight and Tyson still had more speed
Tysons only weakness was his self still amazes me today knowing that he was so scared in his first amateur fight that he tried hoping a bus to get away before the fight when the guy was a teenager and built like a body builder and had the skills he did

The interviewer may be mentally handicapped. The questions he asks these great fighters and trainers sometimes is so odd ball I'm surprised no one gets up and walks away. They must feel sorry for him.

Most boxers came to box but Tyson came to fight. He's flip that switch and go to work ND boy he wasn't playing for points. He was trying to kill that guy until the referee saw a dying man. Then he'd often turn humble. Caring for his opponents well being. Helping them back up. The young Tyson was a very conflicted but well trained killer.

Cus and Mike were unstoppable together. Cus brought out the best in Mike. Tyson had the best speed and top 5 power of any heavyweight. His footwork and angles were unmatched.

Freddie Roach hit the nail on the head .. of what made Mike so effective as a puncher . His punches and speed were so fast most guys never saw them coming . If you watch a lot of his early fights , a guy would throw a shot .. miss Mike and get countered before they knew what hit them .

Early on in Tyson’s career he was loved and admired. During the Don King era things turned bad for Tyson. The media took to his personal life coming apart. Glad to see Tyson lived long enough to see how much people really love him.

What's amazing, and also what they didn't mention during this interview, was that Freddie didn't work with Tyson until the end of his career when Mike was 37 years old. Imagine if he had been working the mitts with him back before he went to prison and not when he was over the hill and looking for paydays. Unreal that Tyson still had that combination of speed, power, and explosiveness at that point of his career.

The main difference between prime and non prime Tyson , was his speed. He always had the power, but when the speed left , his power wasnt as dangerous.
If people think Wilder hits hard and he's 6'7" Mike was 5'10" and still hits harder! I never seen opponents get hit as hard as Tyson hit people! Tyson's hooks and uppercuts were ferocious! And Tyson and Wilder are both around 220lbs when fighting but Wilder is 9" taller!

@@davehazeldene4091 Well for starters Holyfield and Lennox Lewis were better when they fought AMD had the better careers, Ali was better AMD defeated better oppositon, foreman had a better career as well, as did Joe Louis, joe frazier can at least say he beat a prime Ali in their first fight, a better win than any of tysons, I mean I can go on and I can appreciate how much you love Mike, shit i do as well, but when it comes to ranking fighters careers/legacies and abilities i think he didnt deliver considering as much promise as he showed early on, yes there were a lot of outside factors involved in his life, but to q certain extent one of the very characteristics of a great fighter is their ability to overcome, to find a way against elite opposition, and unfortunately for whatever reasons whenever Mike stepped up he was unable to walk away with the win, personally in the case of Lennox Lewis I really do think any version of Mike would have struggled against him, an elite guy with that many physical advantages on you is very harsh to look good against, and Mike was a very small heavyweight
