When the occupation state of Israel was established in 1948, the amount of land owned by Jews was 2000 km². Most of it was donated first by the Ottomans and then by the British without any public involvement. Another 250 km² were purchased from the Palestinians. In other words, the total amount of land they bought from the Palestinians amounted to 0.9% of Palestinian land. Not to be reductive of the real suffering, but westerners seem to be biased culturally or otherwise in this conflict, so, maybe a fictional comparison would be easier to understand. A piece of fiction that is strikingly similar is The Hunger Games. The two sides are the capitol and and the districts 12 & 13. District 12 complies but lives under constant oppression. Meanwhile district 13 was annihilated but does violent resistance. This doesn't even encompass the problem of settlers and many other issues that cause suffering. Despite this, most if not all of the audience of The Hunger Games would agree that violent revolt against the capitol is not only justified but necessary. No sane person would look at the scenes of the revolt and blink an eye at the violence exacted at the apartheid state. This glaring contradiction with how the western world views the Israel Palestine conflict is so maddening.

The Israeli government has, not the innocents who lost their lives. A governmental entity does not always represent the people, and in no circumstance does it reflect the sentiment of the entire nation. You cannot view the state and the people as one and the same, it dehumanizes the people. This goes for both Israelis and Palestinians. For this reason, killing innocents, babies, elderly, etc. - who might as well not agree with the apartheid state that Israel has become - is not a good solution. It's not a good analogy, the innocent rave goers were in no way the adults who were "abusing and kicking the kid". I enjoyed this watch. Grew up Jewish. Went to Jewish school where we were made to sing the Israeli national anthem every morning. I have Israeli family. I would not say that I am a hardcore Zionist, but when the news broke my actual first thought was "bomb Gaza, all of it". Obviously, I calmed down and decided that was ridiculous but it was telling that that was my first thought. Until this video, I was in favor of annexing Gaza.

As a Russian living in Russia, this kind of reminds me of how i was feeling when Ukraine/Russia war started (if we count 2022 as a start and not 2014, i was too young in 2014 to care). Admittedly, it's slightly more straightforward with Ukraine/Donbas, but i still was struggling a lot. I'm still struggling now, even though i have RELATIVES living in Ukraine (Ivano-Frankivsk).

Civilians have been dying for years and no one speaks out. Why does everyone act peacefully when Hamas starts attacking? There is a simple rule in the world: If you take an action, you will get the reward in worse ways. If you harm 100 people, the other party will harm 200 people to harm you more. Everything that happens here causes innocent civilians to die. People who did not raise their voice against the mess that was made before have no right to ask for peace now. I wish you had raised your voice early against the oppression and acted peacefully so that no civilians would have died on either side.
