The Chicago Bulls beat the Bucks on April 16, 1996 for their record-setting 70th win of the season. The Bulls would finish the regular season with a 72-10 record.
Does anyone remember the next season the Bulls went 69-13? They were actually 68-10 with 4 games left, but Kukoc and Rodman were banged up and did not play the last 4 games, and the Bulls lost 3 out of the 4 games after they already had home court advantage locked up a long time before. I wish they would have won 70 games in back to back seasons... but they got the rings and that's all that matters.
Arguably the best team in NBA history. The 81 sixers, 86 celtics, and 72 lakers are in the discussion but i personally can't bet against MJ. I believe he would have found a way to lift his teammates to victory. The GOAT indeed.
ForEmily23, thank you for uploading this game. I was at this game, and it also happened to be my 1st time seeing Jordan play in person. What a night it was. The Bradley Center was sold out for weeks in anticipation the record setting night would possibly be this game. For one night, Bucks fans couldn't help but applaud at the end for the Bulls who achieved something so great. So many Bulls fans and Media from all over the world were in attendance. Still have my ticket stub & program. Go Bulls!
72-10. A feat that will never be accomplished again. As a Spurs fan in 1996 when my Spurs won 59 games, I would continually check the scores to see how this Bulls team was doing. It was an amazing feat for the Bulls, the greatest moment in NBA history, and is the greatest team of all time.
Growing up in Chicago at the time, I remember watching this game on TV. Even though they trailed for a lot during the game, there was never a doubt that the Bulls would pull it out, that's how great that 72-10 team was, they knew that they were the best and they could beat any team.
god this is awesome to watch. brings back so many memories. what an amazing team the bulls were, the definition of a dynasty, atleast for several years. i wish i could go back in time and live this all over again. MJ is my idol! 72-10
The old NBA was harder...personally as a CONSUMER OF NBA (I CONSUME IT ALL DAY)...I miss the old times...I miss being jaw-droppingly amazingly amazed at what these players did on the court. Today I see NBA players as basketball players...but when I think about the previous eras...I tend to see the players as warriors. Not trying to be cheesy, but I tend to be impressed and kind of +vely intimidated by their strength, charisma, will, passion. The mark they left on the NBA can never be done again.
You could tell the Bucks didn't want to be the team the Bulls beat for 70. Bucks came out with a lot of energy and stayed aggressive the entire game. But the Bulls being the veterans they were imposed their will on the game, they would not be denied.
Why does the crowd sound like they are at Chicago Stadium? This is the other teams home and they are cheering for the Bulls!....They want to see 70 wins
It's in Milwaukee which isn't that far from Chicago. Few yours drive. Some Bulls fans travel or already live in Milwaukee. Plus its the greatest player ever and the greatest team ever playing to win 70
The truth is, this game being a very anticipated game that the bulls could win their 70th game, made many people from the entire country fly in.. so yes I'm sure at least 5,000 fans were not from Milwaukee, they were there to see Michael..
Poor Scottie...he had no idea back then that he was about to lose so much money years later!! I HOPE AND WISH he will make it through this challenge in his life and learn his lessons and be on the rise again in his life!
lmaoo i have been watching so many bulls highlights/games from the 90s, and the fans cheer for them even when their not playing at home its crazy. maybe thats another reason their season records were so great. that would make me want to play hard to if heard the opposing teams fan cheering for me and my team lol
@austin78993 this is something that sets MJ apart from Kobe(who is also a great player and probably the best of his generation). MJ was around 34 years of age during that season and yet he still dominated the league as if he were in his 20's. That right there is true greatness.
Awesome man, thank you for uploading this. That dunk at 2:09 is very rare and the sweet pass at 1:03 is amazingly similar to another one he did at Milwaukee earlier that season...
Big thanks for uploading this and even bigger thanks for including Kukoc highlights! We were so spoiled in the 90s when we watched basketball like this. :)
I think the majority of the crowd there reguardless of who their favorite team was/is...were there to see history. To see win # 70. Which is why they were cheering for the Bulls.
ULTIMATE SPORTS (1999) BULLS' TEMPERATURE HITS 70 The records along the way were like something from a Fantasy basketball league -- 39-3 through three months, 50-6 through February. The record was becoming oh so impossible to ignore. An April 7th win at Orlando was crucial not only for their won-lost mark but also for their playoff future. Orlando had been to the Finals the year before and figured to meet Chicago in the ECF. Everyone was waiting for the post-season showdown.
Amen to that inbtmike, Don't forget about how great the Pacers were in 95-96, only team to beat my Bulls wice that REG Season. Teams back in the 90s would wipe the floor with teams of today. Back then they played hard nosed basketball and the Defenses were great. Today they rely on zone defense and the rules are now wussy were they call a foul if you breathe on a guy. NBA is improving now but back then it had a tougher mentality.
The win made Chicago 66-8. If they split the remaining eight games they would have their 70 wins. They lost the next night to Charlotte before blowing out New Jersey, Philadelphia and Cleveland in succession. In a tight, poorly played game in Milwaukee, the Bulls eked out a 86-80 victory. Phil Jackson got cigars for the players and proudly lit up following the game.
Milwaukee Illinois is so cool!:) Even Lakers fans were Bulls fans during MJ's era!! :) But you will never see a Chicago stadium cheering for a Laker or Celtic team ever! :)
Well this game is in Milwaukee which is only an hour and a half drive from Chicago, lots of Chicago fans used to follow the Bulls up there since it was easier to get tickets there and in Chicago, same thing happens with the Cubs. Getting tix to Wrigley is very hard, that's why Miller Park is referred to as Wrigley North.
"It was a sigh of relief, because everyone put so much pressure into the 70 wins," said Jordan in the locker room. He had scored just 22 points, but his eight scoring title was already a lock. "We were reserved. If we win the championship, you'll see a more enthusiastic celebration."
You can debate all you want about what the greatest team in NBA history, but the bottom line is the '96 Bulls set the bar for Regular season greatness. And as we've seen recently with Boston(no offense), staying dominate for an 82 game season is no easy task. Everything just has to fall in place.
thanks for another great post. I like what Scottie was saying about how fortunate that he was still a Bull. Also glad to see that he did retire as a Bull.
Every year I hear & see people saying... Lakers will win 70 mark my words..... The Heat will win 73 mark my words.... Well, this Bulls record 72 wins will never ever be broken, mark my damn words.
that man is red kerr he was the color commentator for the bulls and he was really close to MJ.....he is a legend in the bulls organization RIP johnny red kerr
The Bucks fans are cheering for Bulls? That year, all the opponents were cheering for Bulls. They were the rock stars of NBA that year. That's why the 70 wins are special. Those days the real basketball cheers for the Bulls because it's the RESPECT for the game of basketball & the players. Not just because it's a different team. U guys r actually surprise Bucks r cheering for Bulls? Come on...
MJ was not only great in the playoffs but he raped the regular season with regular season MVPs after another (5 total), scoring titles one after another (10 total)etc etc etc THERE IS NO DOUBT that Mike was, is, and quite honestly will always be the best ever!

The best season ever by a team 72-10(no one will top that). Great video and 5 star. Still kind of sad i miss this game back then. actually i miss the whole season until the finals against seattle. great upload foremily23!
The 1995-'96 Bulls was like a team and franchise reborn. To set a new regular-season win record for the NBA, have their greatest playoff win streak as a dynasty and almost sweep the Sonics in the Finals made for a brand new day in and for the city of Chicago!
Not long after the Bulls finished 72-10, people wondered aloud about the greatest team in basketball history. Was it Wilt's 76ers? Magic and Kareem's Lakers? Bird's Celtics? Someone asked Jordan. "Anyone else win 70 games?" he replied, smiling.
This Record will never be Topped because they dont have JOrdan nor does a team rarely have the pure shooters , great Rebounding, nor a perfect Compliment to the Superstar like Pippen'. Untouchabulls
Yeah jxn23, I thought that pass was the one you were talking about also, but then I said to myself, "wait, I don't remember any defender making contact with Pippen on that play." I actually started to doubt my own recollection of the pass you're talking about, which is one several MJ highlight vids. Almost exactly the same pass. Crazy.
it seems to me there were more bulls fans than bucks fans inside that arena. but as rodman once said they were like rock stars so thats not even a surprise
To @ChaosCat79: The SuperSonics actually DID win 60+ games in '95-'96. They went 64-18 that year, second to the Bulls' NBA record season of 72-10. They went 63-19 in '93-'94 when my 8th seeded Nuggets shocked the world by beating them in 5 games in the playoffs that season.
still gets me mad that the bulls didnt make back to back 70 win seasons...losing 3 of their last 4 games in 97 they shouldve made at least 70 but still overall a dominant 3 years
The only team I think would give this 72 win Bulls team is the 85'86 Celtics. They had such a strong front line and Ainge & Johnson was tough in the backcourt. A seven game series with those two teams would probably go the full seven with the Bulls coming out on top.
The 97-98 Bulls were even better than this yet they got 69 wins and didn't make it to 70 only because of injuries and had to rest people to get ready for the playoffs. It's crazy to imagine winning more than 72 but they could have done it had the season ended like this one :)
No one can match Michael Jordan's intensity! No one attacked the game like Jordan, No one took on the challenge like Jordan! Jordan would go to the hole knowing he was going to get clubbed to death and he would still score, Jordan could shoot the mid range, Jordan could shoot the 3 and no one I mean no one scored in the post like Jordan, not Olajuwan, Robinson, or Ewing and that was their domain! The best single defender and Scorer in the NBA at the same time! Jordan Dared and Won
I don't think this generation of NBA fans understand how hard it is to what the Bulls did in '96. I think this record will stand for another 50 years if they keep the 82 games schedule. Michael Jordan made ALL of his teammates better. Assist numbers doesn't constitute making your teammates better (generally speaking). Jordan's desire to win rubbed off on everyone on that team. Jordan is the GOAT...anyone that says LBJ or Kobe are even close to MJ obviously don't know the game
Rodman's postgame locker-room interview was the best, he was wearing a cheesehead hat and a t-shirt that you have to see to believe. Too bad it isn't on here.
yes there was some cheering for the bulls on the road but the reason it was so loud there was cuz its like a 90 minute drive from Chicago. a lot of people from chicago go up to Milwaukee to watch bulls games. The same with the cubs that is why they call miller park wrigley north
Watching the '96 Bulls never gets old.
And neither does the '91, '92, '93, '97, '98 Bulls get old.
Brown Guy Who Likes Redhead Women you got that right.
Good times!!!
Man I had an awesome childhood & Michael Jordan is one of the reasons why lol. The 90s was amazing.
the home crowd cheers for Bulls....
Haryo Radityo I witnessed them cheering for Derrick Rose too. Shout out to Milwaukee.
Even the opponent's fans would cheer for MJ and the Bulls. It's difficult to ignore the GOAT.
Just appreciating history being made.
even the Milwaukee bucks fans are cheering the bulls
Love how the crowd goes crazy when Jordan scores. Those were the days..

I went to that last game vs NYK. So bummed when Scottie missed the 3 pointer at the buzzer.
Arguably the best team in NBA history. The 81 sixers, 86 celtics, and 72 lakers are in the discussion but i personally can't bet against MJ. I believe he would have found a way to lift his teammates to victory. The GOAT indeed.

Dennis Rodman was so fucking good.
Rodman was actually a good post passer in his bulls seasons.
I think this was Phil Jacksons best team out of his coaching career
It was the best team in history dimwit

+Rachett FN57 *5 games away. The Bulls in '97 had 69 wins.
Honestly, the Bulls should have gone 74-8
Don't forget Toronto. Bottom of the league, I think they were. Any team can go 72-10, though. If they put the work and come by surprise.
Rachett FN57 I know, right? Wikipedia.
This is probably the players' greatest achievements. Beating the 72-10 Bulls.
I remember the 95-96 Bulls kept me glued to basketball. Most exciting season ever.
Chicago finished 72-10 and WENT ON TO WIN their 4th championship... makes me cry... sounds legendary and I'm glad to say I was alive to see it
I wouldn't care if I was there wearing a Milwaukee Bucks jersey and had invested stock in the team...I would STILL be cheering for the Bulls! LOL!
