    I just made this, i think i needed to leave it in the oven a little longer but the pair of us ate the whole thing in one go, with the obligatory ton of butter!

      Aw fantastic, every oven is different, some can be more time some can be less, but the main thing is you had a TON of butter on it 😁

    I made this just now, top notch! I've eaten half of it already, but i'm interested to see how to tastes tomorrow too, like how the texture changed. The thing is at school about 30 years ago, i swapped my school dinner for a sandwich from this lad in my class. And it was a jam sandwich with butter, and it blew my mind, it just melted in my mouth i'd never tasted anything like it before, and i asked him what it was, and he said it was soda bread and that his mum had made it. Now i've got a long bloody way to get my soda bread to that level, but by god you've started me off in the right direction :) Thank you my friend :)

    I brought a bag of Irish wholemeal back from Ireland after making lousy brown bread properly. Pastry flour is what you want in the US, it's lower in gluten than all purpose. I've had great results using it and you can reconstitute whole meal by adding the bran and germ back. 80g PF, 17g Bran and 3g germ is the ratio. We have a local dairy that makes a whole milk buttermilk, much better than what you get in a supermarket.

      Thank you so much for watching, I will be doing a brown soda bread video soon,
      That’s fantastic you got a great mix by doing it yourself, also you can’t beat dairy products straight for a farm.

    G'day from Australia!
    I have to say I'm SO happy you it in the weights for this recipe!
    1 Aussie metric cup of flour weighs 150g! So is have been trying to make this head with a REALLY incorrect ratio of dry to wet! 😍
    EDIT: k, more I'm REALLY confused...
    How many ml are in an Irish teaspoon?. How does it suffer from an American teaspoon? 🫢

    • @josephineholohan7350
      @josephineholohan7350 Месяц назад +1

      An Irish teaspoon is 5ml which I think is an American half teaspoon

    • @VashtiWood
      @VashtiWood Месяц назад

      @@josephineholohan7350 a standard American teaspoon is 4.9ml, no near enough for single teaspoon measures.
      Real differences come in TABLEspoons... One Australian standard/metric TB = 4x TSP = 20ml, whereas 1x American TB = 3x American tsp = 14.8ml

    Is an Irish tsp smaller than a U. S. tsp? What’s the weight of salt and soda?

    • @RobertKelly-simplecooking
      @RobertKelly-simplecooking  6 месяцев назад +2

      Hi and thank for watching, most people in Ireland use a actual teaspoon not the measuring spoon so that’s the difference, 1/2 a measuring tsp for both salt & bread soda or bicarbonate soda
