  • Welcome back to Nevards Telling. Minor tweaks, and a new unboxing await you this week. Apologies for the creaking of the tripod. I had no time to re-do the recording. Sadly, my new software didn't think that worth removing. Time for a bit of WD40 (no doubt alternatives are available) so hopefully it won't happen again. This time we're Highflying with a Class 42 Warship diesel hydraulic loco, and take a look at a couple of railbuses. I unbox the Park Royal railbus as I think that's the most familiar to models, as Airfix made a kit many years ago. Nothing very proferssional again but I hope you enjoy!

Thanks, Bernie. I had the Airfix kit very many years ago. Never succeeded in getting it motorised reliably.

Good to hear from you, Tom. I think one of the main problems folk had with motorising the Airfix model, as I recall, was the weight balance. It's not the best wheel arrangement in the world! Heljan have made , as always, quite a heavy model, which keeps it mostly on the tracks. Even then, one notch to much and mine took off. Luckily no damage. Just need them to bring out the other two raillbus types now.

The rail bus doesn't look very stable due to its wheel configuration, but it's certainly a very interesting model.

The simple answer is that it is NOT very stable. I certainly would not wish to be on it at high speed. Fortunately they were used on lightly loaded rural routes that didn't need it. Three went to Bedford for the Hitchin line, and two went to the Scottich region for Crieff to Gleneagles and the Dalmellington branch primarily. My model came off the rails at one point. I notched it up too much and it literally "took off" on a bend. No damage luckily.
