I guess what I like about the organ is that one moment it sounds like bells, the next horns, the next singing birds. But it's not just it's tonal range but dynamic. From the near imperceptible to the rumbling, bombastic, the organ is super fantastic.
Shame on me I just found this ARTIST!!!!! All his concerts could have given me so many inspirations if I have listened to his performance a couple of years ago! I don't know how to put these into words. I just know what I can persuade for my whole life!1!
Well...I TOLD you!! What a concert! And what a rare privilege for all of us to hear such a brilliant musician in his absolute prime. Mille grazie, dear Jonathan. Sending all best greetings from the USA.
Oh, just imagine being inside that space to hear the true dimension and feel the actual vibrations in your ribs. Such an experience would be heavenly. Jonathan and Tom should be knighted for showcasing these immeasurable gifts of great British culture to the world! Most sincere thanks from St Petersburg, FL.
Jonathan, you are just a natural born organist! Your amazing footwork and your creative. natural mechanics changing stops and sounds. You are the all time best organist ever. Thank you so much. I have studied organ later in life and my all time dream would be able to play like you. What an inspiration you are. Thank you and to your brother Tom who is an amazing pianist.
Johnathan, you and Tom have become British treasure of exceedingly high quality! I just hope the Brits recognise this fact. You ought to be on the list for knighthood!
That is an ongoing project that I ran in conjunction with a few other people towards the end of last year. Probably not a knighthood, but at least some form of recognition for everything they’ve done for us. We need to wait and see.
Know Ripon very well, my late father in law performed there and I got married there. Had the Prince of Denmark march performed by Ron Perrin at it. The organ Symphony is fantastic.
What is it about Jonathan's recitals that makes you think...."That is absolutely the best one yet," after each and every one. Mind you, this must surely have been one of the very best ones yet.....
Thanks Jonathan. You took me to 55 years ago when I played the intermezzo in "requinta", (in Portuguese, like a very small clarinet), on the band of my village. Porto, Portugal.
What an absolute joy!!!! Sincerest thank you to Tom and Jonathan for sharing your talents with us in this time of pandemic. Hoping we all come through these dangerous times in one piece. This gorgeous concert restores my hope that we will.
Merci pour ce très bel hommage à Charles Camille Saint-Saëns pour le centenaire de sa disparition. Quel brio, quelle interprètation !! Bravo 👏👏 de Paris - France
I am Jackie G's cousin Monica, who had her 72nd birthday incredibly enhanced by this wonderful concert! Such an absolute joy in every way! Saint Saens said "I gave everything to it I was able to give." So did Jonathan and Tom- then they gave some more! amazing.... moving. So much appreciated.
Monica...happy birthday to you! I was 72 yesterday and what a wonderful piece of music to celebrate with. These two young men are an absolute joy! Best wishes to you, Monica. BTW, your maiden name wasn't Banks was it? I knew a Monica Banks as a teenager in Leeds. She was a lovely girl.
@@mjd1949 Hello mjd, and happy birthday! Thanks for your good wishes. Sorry , no I am not the said Monica Banks. I agree about the absolute joy! How lucky we are to be 72, and enjoying concerts like these! All good wishes. Monica.
It's 3 minutes before 1 am EDT (March 21) here in New York, and I have just finished listening and watching this for the 6th, 7th or 8th time since the premiere (I've lost count), and I still can't get enough of it!!! With surprisingly excellent earbuds, plugged into a laptop (!), I am able to hear even the lowest notes of this organ clearly! It boggles my mind that Tom is able to record these organs with no feedback on the loudest and lowest notes! I can almost feel the organ as if I were actually in the cathedral. As I said before, every piece on this program is a gem, and Jonathan's dazzling performance made all 3 sparkle and shine! The organ and cathedral at Ripon are magnificent, so I thank you, Jonathan and Tom, for showcasing your wizardry and skill in this beautiful setting! Stay well and safe, while I look forward to your next appearance!
What a marvelous instrument, what a beautiful cathedral, and wow!, what a magnificent concert from the world's greatest organist! These concerts are a great blessing to behold and your performance of them honors not only the composers of great music, but also the artistry of the facilities from which they are played. The talents of both Jonathan and Tom are richly displayed in them. Thank you so much!
WoW!! What a package: the Ripon cathedral acoustics, that splendid organ capability, and it all realized for us by Jonathan's playing and Tom's audio/visuals! Our gratitude to you once again, but with added bravos. Bless you guys!
What a treat for the ears and the eyes this is! Not only Jonathan's always sensitive and moving playing but Tom's imaginative camerawork displaying this fine building at its best. Another great success!
I know Ripon Cathedral quite well; having spent the best part of 15 years in the area as we had a caravan sited at Markington. A wonderful cathedral and as Johnathon alluded to, a lot of history. I witnessed a closure to a wedding there a good few years ago; as I was walking by the south door, the door opened to the wonderful sounds of Ripon cathedral organ playing Widor's Tocatta and out came the new bride and groom. What a sight and wonderful sound that has remained with me all these years. Thankyou Johnathan and Tom for some fantastic playing and film work.
Oh my. This is going to be the musical event of the year. Have you all listened to the premiere performance on the Willis organ in Hanley? It’s simply in a class by itself. Orchestra not needed. At ALL. Jonathan, you’re a mega-treasure. Thanks for doing this concert and bringing some joy to these troubled times.
YOU, Jonathan, certainly enrich us all in wonderful variety.Your teaching skills give anyone t h e chance to listen conscientiously to any thing you wish to play.Thankyou so much.P.s. my older brother used to play pipe- organ, whom I often followed when we were younger.
Thank you Jonathan for a wonderful concert to celebrate my cousin Monica's birthday and the first day of spring, and also to Tom for the stunning photography inside the cathedral. Another outstanding performance from you both.
What an incredibly symphonic organ! I may never enjoy this symphony anywhere else now! Stunningly real reeds, especially in the pedal. Thank you both again and again for the beautiful artistic performances you provide.
Dear Jon, Bravissisimo!!! I don't know if you read my prior comment, but this performance is absolutely spot on. You've captured what, to my way of thinking about the Saint-Saëns, is the delicate balance between sultry, sensual smokiness and laser-like, purifying religiosity. And your technique is, quite simply, stunningly perfect and amazing. Thank you very much, Geof.
Absolutely wonderful. I have been many times to Ripon, but never realised that, inside that wonderful building, there was such a stupendous organ, since it was never being played when I was there. Thank you.
Another truly brilliant performance on a wonderful instrument, in a great Cathedral. I visited Ripon Cathedral in 2014 - sadly at a time when no services/rehearsals were taking place. I can remember, though, instinctively making my way to the organ console and wishing so much that I could hear the sound of the great instrument which surrounded me. You've fulfilled that wish for me tonight - and in a way which (at the time) I couldn't have imagined! As always, thank you both so much for everything that you do. Stay safe and take care.
Perfect in every way - how else could this superb performance be described? I personally think Tom’s distinctively creative filming is always better than the BBC’s was at the Prom, with manual and pedal shots thoughtfully selected. Anyone who hasn’t been completely enthralled here in Ripon Cathedral has a serious problem!
Good afternoon Joan, I quite agree with you. What a superb organ, no wonder Jonathan is enthralled with it. Hope we will be able to meet later in the year.
@@michaelsullivan3233 I also hope we can meet up again before too long. I am simply longing for a live Scott concert of some kind, either Organ Solo or Organ and Piano. Missing the Bridgewater Hall atmosphere as well. Take care of yourself Michael.
Bravo Jonathan!! And Excellent Cinematography & Sound Tom!! Sharing this Wonderful music and beautiful Cathedral in All its Awesomeness!! Thank You Both for Everything You do!! JD
Many thanks to Jonathan and Tom for this wonderful recital. Superb, as always. This was an amazing concert to watch and also thoroughly enjoyed hearing the background commentary by Jonathan. This guy is absolutely amazing on the organ!! The setting of Ripon Cathedral is majestic; obviously the only thing better would be to be there in person. A must listen for organ fans!
This was superb. I had the privilege of singing in Ripon Cathedral when at Ripon Grammar school choir. This brings back wonderful memories how great that organ sounds. Thank you!
Absolutely magnificent! You never cease to amaze me. That was quite the workout for you. And wonderful camera work from Tom. You make a terrific pair of entertainers. May the good Lord grant you many years of music making together. Thanks. I sang in Ripon Cathedral as a boy when our choir from Leeds Minster (Parish Church in those days) visited Ripon on many occasion. A wonderful memory. A great 72nd birthday present for me. MOST SPLENDID ORGAN AND ORGANIST.-

That Tuba is absolutely phenomenal!
One only word can be said in my limited english, AMAZING!!!
I love the story of Scott trying to play a prank by playing the organ at his piano recital and became one of the best organist in the world.
The Saint-Saëns is one of those pieces I wish I could excise from my memory and hear again for the first time.
I love listening to you talking about the history about the place you go to!
Just wonderful! The performance and video are exceptional! What a beautiful Church! Congratulations on the wonderful work! Thank you both!
Surely his most difficult arrangement ever. Astonishing ability. The organ is fabulous too. Took my breath away.

OK I am in tears! Had an angina attack today, but this has made me feel so much better! God bless.
Magnificent faith, architecture, instrument, and performance - the pinnacle of Western culture all present in one masterful concert! Bravo!
