    This is my favourite organ piece. I persuaded my husband to have this as we walked out at our wedding in ripon cathedral. It was amazing and couldn’t stop grinning the whole walk from the alter

    I suppose I should be tired of this piece by now, but I sure wish I'd been in that grand Ripon Cathedral and feel as much as hear this great piece. And kudos on the tempo. We've heard a few that think they are playing Flight of the Bumble Bee!

    Aaaaaaah! I can never hear this too often. Jonathan's rendition is as good as it gets. Ripon's nice, but I'd love to hear him play it on the Cavaillé Coll at Saint Sulpice. The tempo was perfect. Far too many otherwise technically competent organists play this far too fast.

      I never get tired of listening to this music. As someone who cannot play any instrument, I’m in awe at how the organist plays an accompanying tune with his FEET! How does his brain cope with this?

    • @rosemarybaxter9120
      @rosemarybaxter9120 3 месяца назад +1

      Yes, too many organists play it too fast. Watched the composer, Charles Marie Widor play it, and he played it slowly.

    Beautiful rendition of one of my very favourite organ compositions. It was played at the end of my sister and brother-in-law's wedding at Rochester Cathedral in Jan 1970 as we processed from the quire to the west door. Sadly my sister and I had to take that same walk in September behind my brother-in-law's coffin after his funeral service, on that occasion to a beautiful anthem sung by the cathedral choir. We have heard a couple of far less well played renditions. At the Brighton Dome, the organist must have had a train to catch, and at the funeral of my partner's cousin, the organist made such a hash of it, he actually gave up halfway through - rather embarrassing.

Trop d'organiste oublient, sans doute, que ce qui fait de la version de cochereau de 59 LA référence est qu'il l' joue sur un tempo juste assez lent pour que l'on entende chaque note de l'arpègé en pizzicato de la main droite. Ca change tout!

    Why oh why does the photographer focus so much on the pipes, windows, walls, roof, and pillars of the church, etc and NOT on the performer all the time? We want to see his work. He plays brilliantly with both fingers and feet, and there's insufficent focus on the latter. Jonathan Scott makes playing look effortlesst even though it couldn't be. When the volume on my little computer is fully turned up, even the loose things in my room vibrate when the pedals are used full blast. Lifts one above the mundane. 😇
