This week we take a look at a Citroen C4 that has been off the road for more than a year and been through several garages without the problem being fixed.
With the help of the Topdon AD800BT we get it sorted and you wont believe how simple it was.

Great video guys. Love to see you working methodically through a fault and the care with which you fix the issues given the age and state of the car. You have to wonder at the level of professionalism or training of the mechanics who looked at this before. Well done!
Thanks Paul, I blame the way they train mechanics now, they are only trained as fitters now and the majority haven't a clue when it comes to basic diagnostic work.
Most garages just play parts darts now and hope they fix it eventually.
Thanks again for watching Paul.
Great video. I've bought a c4 and there's a hidden esp fault, so hopefully this is the way to get rid of it
Mike and charlie
Well done Top don proves its weight in gold love the he video just shows what corrosion can do lot of damage
Phil in stoke
Thanks again for watching Phil, the Topdon is a great tool mate.
Your in for a treat with this weeks video Phil
That is an absolute disgrace the way that car was left. You did a great job there both.
Thank you
What a great bit of kit, just wish all jobs were tht easy lol 😆
Topdon is brilliant, it was years of experience that made it look easy 😜
Thanks for posting this great tutorial, well appreciated for your kind time and effort, please post more, Bless 🙂😇👍
Well done, tbh those auto boxes on those C4s are horrendous, but as you have done there all you can do is clean up all the contacts etc, good video.
Great video on how good a diagnostic tool, and you to know what to do. Great guys👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks John, glad you enjoyed the video.
Thanks for watching.
Well done Scottie's, save that owner more headaches. Maybe the missing parts are in the boot for the battery and trim studs for the scuttle panel.
Hi Paul, I searched the whole car and couldn’t find them mate, probably lying in a workshop workbench somewhere.
Thanks again for watching.
Brilliant piece of kit.
It really is, well worth it.
Fancy doing the clutch on my e39 bmw 🤣🤣 great video guys keep up the good work.
If your in Scotland and don’t mind it being on camera then no problem.
good to hear the (im not wearing a seatbelt) warning symbol still works
Cant be getting customers belts dirty
One of the best videos yet well done
Thanks dude
Could you come fix mine ??
Hi brilliant video really enjoyed this as ive just purchased a 2009 c4 picasso 1.6 THP automatic exclusive model with panoramic sunroof 1 x owner purchased new at a cost of £22,000 as he had the car specd to his own preference with alloy wheels metallic paintwork etc only done 34,000 miles full dealership service history serviced every 12 months, however the owner became ill so the car has not been used for the past year only covered 53 miles !! sadly he passed away so the car came up for sale, mot has just expired and there are two warning lights showing on dash ABS sensor and handbrake faulty so im getting the car collected and delivered then my mechanic is going to plug in and see what it comes up with ? gearbox is fine showing no faults i purchased this car for just £950 so im hoping shudnt be too much wrong the discs are a little rusty car has been started up on a regular basis and moved just on the driveway so after watching your video has given me a bit more confidence that ive snapped up a little bargain and wont cost too much to get back on the road ? any advice on the two faults showing on dash that i mentioned thanks in advance !!
Will attempt cleaning the terminals at the fusebox tomorrow, just had the clutch replaced on our 1.6 manual and because I released the handbrake manually to tow it there, it now keeps throwing up warnings, have had a neighbour round with his diagnox program and cleared the error codes, motor works fine switch operates so must be a bit of rust, was working fine before clutch went and has been sat about 6 or 7 weeks
Well done guys... You just convinced me to get the topdon scan tool.
If you get it using the link in the video description it’s only £240.99 instead of £350
Grab a bargain while you can mate.
Bargain I paid nearly 600 for my autel 😡🤦♂️🙄
Still having a problem with mine on the same faults autobox and auto handbrake. I cleaned up the fuse box on the battery and changed the battery. It worked a while basically 5 miles then all the faults came back..What I doing wrong, I had a continuity meter all over tne battery top fuse box and it looks like proper continuity on the board and on the fuses...Any ideas ? I now have a diagbox and deleted all those faults codes today all saying ECU'S faults,,then they all came back
Great job lads, saw this happen before on a c4,no auto etc over 2k was spent on the car and it was an abs sensor all along
Keep up the good work
This one had about £1k spent on it.
Garages and mechanics tend to over complicate everything instead of starting with the basics.
Would you not consider renting a garage/shed and going full time at it ?
It is something we would love to do but budget won’t allow it at the moment, need to get some more cars flipped 😂
Be nice to see lads
Hopefully sometime in the future, then we can do special deals for Subscribers 😂
Job well done lads great video as usual keep up the good work !!!!
Thanks again Tam
just found your ytube channel this citroen your working on has exactly the same problem as my peugeot
Thanks for watching George, you may find its the same fix.
Amazing job, can't wait till yous do mine obviously after your hols, I'll drop you a message to arrange when's best for you
Thanks Scott, I’m looking forward to doing yours, we’ve got the video all planned out.
just purchased the 32gb unit hopefully it will sort out my many faults on my peugeot
Its a great tool, best non dealer bit of kit i've used.
@@HomeBuilt really i got a few fault codes i deleted them all nothing happened
Did you find the cause of the codes
@@HomeBuilt no i though the unit got rid of the actual faults
Great video, I'll be checking out more when I need help. Have you any other tips on what to check to fix parking brake fault? Same lights coming up, checked fuses, all seem good. Any sensors or anything I could be cleaning or changing to maybe fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏 thank you
Nice fix mad it was something simple and had all that money spend on it wonder if the original box was ok looks like it has the Peugeot 16 wheels with the centre the Audi is doing the miles well
Who knows mate, it’s been so long even the customer couldn’t remember how it all started. I did notice he had another set of wheels for it in the garden.
The Audi is awesome, can’t fault it.
It’s about to smash out another 1000 miles when we go away for a week.
Enjoy your wee break away mate
Topdon advert 👌
No mate just a job that the Topdon helped me with.
Its not sponsored i just think its great for the money.
Well done guys
Thanks Mick
I'm having a problems with the automatic parking brake not working... left car a couple of hours and it worked again but as soon as i drove off the fault came back
Great video. So many faults are the most silly things ie crusties on electrcal systems.Defo buyin one today. Will this enable me to alter speed limiters on the vehicles
Thanks for watching David.
You are 100% spot on, a lot of things are simple fixes but for some reason no one starts at the basics anymore and want to play parts darts with expensive parts.
Not sure about the speed limiters to be honest.
Thanks for watching David.
Great job boys Citroën are bad for this especially the Picasso
Thanks Steven, I know where to start the next time I get a fault on a Citroen/Peugeot.
The worst thing about owning a Citroen/Peugeot is the fact that you own that brand in the first place.
Good job guys..👍
Thanks mate
Hello mate! Can you please give me your opinion on something! I have Peugeot 308 1.6 2014 and I'm having issue with parking brake! The thing is when I'm turning the key I can deactivate parking brake but when engine is running I can't activate parking brake.. Parking brake only activates when I'm turning engine off! I was wondering if you could help me out with your opinion mate! Thank you!
I just fixed mine 2024 it’s started showing me the Abs and Esp and later the gears box fault and I did check my cable and the fuse and it turn out the bright green fuse 20Am I think it was corroded but , but before the alignment was triggering Abs faults but if you have abs and gear box fault and esp it will be the fuse .
All thanks to his RUclips videos 👆
Very intresting video guys, keep at it. Can we have subtitles please 🤣
Thanks mate.
Hit the CC button on the bottom right of the screen and the subtitles will pop up.
How are you I have mine its now a year not starting just cranking need help
Hi guys just recently found your channel keep up the great work im impressed with your knowledge on electrics IV a 2016 a180d 1.5 Renault engine the car was running fine it lay up for a few months now it won't start would you have any ideas much appreciated Ollie from ireland
Hi mate, glad you have joined our little community.
One thing I find with cars laid up is wiring if you are in a rural location, nice chew it to bits, they tend to like Mercedes/Renault insulation for nesting.
Also check the main engine bay fuses and relays they tent to get water ingress.
@@HomeBuilt that's great advice I'm in the car business myself you seem to know your stuff keep uploading new videos you certainly have a new fan your channel is going from strength to strength best of luck for the future.
Thanks mate
My dads berlingo 2012 semi auto is intermittently saying gearbox fault and not shifting in auto……. Manual mode changes up to 3rd. Switching off and removing the key clears it. Codes are p0504 and 171ah/5914 refer to oem information for code description which I can’t find anywhere. I know p0504 is brake pedal position incoherence between the two brake sensors so could the brake pedal switch cause the shifting fault
Start with the same bit I did mate, it cleared so many faults when I cleaned it up.
@@HomeBuilt I just looked after you said that and mention a fuse for resistance of brake pedal switches…….. I’ll have a gander 👍
Good luck mate, just drop me a message if your stuck with anything and I will try and help.
Nice fix.
Thanks Tim
Hello I was wondering if you cood come and have a look at my mums car is doing the same thing as what that car done
Hi mate, thanks for watching. Unfortunately we are not taking on any new customers at the moment I’m afraid.
Is this the same engine/trans as in their vans? Jumpy/Expert etc?
Hi well done brill.👍👍👍😎😎😎
Thanks Richard
@HomeBuilt. Thanks for this great video. Can you help me attend to this same issue on my Citroen C4 Picasso 1.6HDI 2010 diesel? Hope I would get fair billing?
Hi guys my 3008 getting a gearbox fault needs repair. Won't select gear stays in neutral. Help please
Probably a very similar fault, common across Citroen and Peugeot
Hi fantastic vid bud well explained
I have a citreon c4 grand Picasso 2008 1.6L diesel 2008 that has a esp light and abs light on its also not shifting passed 3rd gear some sort of emergency mode I presume ,I cleaned the abs sensors on both front wheels still the same issue.
I called the RAC to have a look and they've said it's a communication issue with one of the computer modules what do you think could be the problem I'd really appreciate the help bud 😁
The faults in this were all communication faults. Check the same bit we done on this and you may find the problem, its very common in French cars.
Thanks for watching.
@@HomeBuilt thanks bud 😁 I'll give it a try and let you know thanks again
Nice one
@@HomeBuilt hey bud ive cleaned the clables but it's still showing the faults do you know where the abs module is located ? I've also connected a diagnostics kit and it's still not communicating .
If I change the abs module would it require coding ?
Thanks 😊👍🏼
@HomeBuilt. Thanks for this great video. Can you help me attend to this same issue on my Citroen C4 Picasso 1.6HDI 2010 diesel? Hope I would get fair billing?
Morning Men.
Cracking video as always.
A job well done, helping the customer out.
Stay lucky. Stay safe. Stay healthy.
Alan L200
Thanks Alan, he’s over the moon we got it sorted, he called me today and it’s now had its MOT so he’s back in the road.
@@HomeBuilt Top job 👍👍
The french aint got the best electrics when it comes to their cars I'll tell you that, quality, what quality
No mate, I’ve also dealt with water ingress and fuse boxes on Renaults
Cars I've had electrical problems on: Peugeot 406, 407, Skoda Felicia, Alfa Romeo 33, Volvo 240
@@HomeBuilthello mate how to switch on parking sensors in Citroen c4 piccaso 2010 there is no switch I look everywhere
I hate why they did two different systems for gear box and abs so if one fail the other not
Can you give me any tips on my electronic brake. On my Peugeot 508 allure
Just make sure you lubricate the levers on the callipers now and then other than that not a lot you can do.
does it program injectors
Hi - this is a great video - I have Citroen c4 C4 picasso 2011 1.6 auto gearbox - 60k miles. It has problems going into gear when starting the car - initially it was an intermittent problem -sometimes had to try for 10 minutes before the problem would go away - now the car just won't go into any gear. What checks would you do ? Thanks for any advice 🤞🙂
Do you hear a pump constantly running when you turn the key/start it?
Did you find out what the problem was?
👍
Thanks dude
C4 Picasso or grand Picasso
Just a Picasso I think
Could do without the music so can hear you better
I think on of the clios we forgot to reduce the music volume
We
Bit sceptical about your scenario.
Car and gearbox been looked at by a professional garage, leaves wiring lose , etc and doesn't have access to a OBD reader, then leaves the car in a position where it's stashed for a year !
I know you tubers need entertainment content but it's a bit sad when you're pumping a sponsored OBD reader and following this a little light sanding of fuse terminals and hey presto,it's fixed.
Not the case mate, this was 100% genuine and it turns out to be quite a common fault across the Citroen and Peugeot range.
As much as id love to create scenario's for RUclips I'm just not that good an actor 😂.
Thanks for watching.
It also wasn't a sponsored video, I was sent the tool a while ago and genuinely think it's a good tool, they don't even pay me to say that 😁
@@HomeBuilt I like your videos man,and I like the fact that your doing the services and repairs sometimes on the road-old school.
I just thought this one's background was a little odd
It's just me being me
Typical french cars lol even worse when people dont start with basic fault finding and decide to throw the parts cannon about 🤦♂️🤦♂️
True mate, diagnostics is simple if you just start from the basics
Citroen = overpriced garbage
