  • I mowed this lawn for a customer who lives out of town. The previous tenants mowed it for the last time 2 months ago. It took some work, but I got it back in decent shape with basic equipment.

    When I was in the business an ENT doctor client told me never to use this equipment without eye and ear protection. Also I've done numerous yards like that and the major problem is you don't know what is hidden within that tall grass.

    My uncle has 3 acres, most of which used to be a hay field. The people that were taking care of the hay field portion decided not to bother with it anymore. My uncle isn't able to get out and do much anymore due to health reasons. So he waited till it was about 3 feet tall then started worrying about it LOL. I did a complete tune-up on his 26 year old Scag 36" walk behind mower and tackled that field with it. I was amazed even with 3' tall weeds and grass that mower went through it like nothing.

      +Mow's Lawns Thanks, man. I had to double cut the front and triple cut the back, haha! It was worth it though; I got my asking price for it ;) A lot of people don't realize that a beard in the summer acts as a heat exchanger. It shades the face and when you sweat, it runs along the hairs and then the breeze blows through and cools down the face majorly, like a radiator cools the antifreeze in a car. Thanks for watching. I'm gonna check out your vids.

    • @Mo-OhioTreeRemoval
      @Mo-OhioTreeRemoval 8 лет назад

      +cort3079 ha! I just laughed my ass off because I was thinking I should tell you "like a radiator" then I read the next line and boom.
      I have a few bi weeklys that need cut twice. It's well worth it in the end. My cleans ups you wouldn't believe the jobs I've tackled. Looked like a hay field.

    • @8ftbed
      @8ftbed 8 лет назад +1

      +cort3079 Hell yeah in the beard! I used to shave in the spring... used too. It's a non-issue in the summer heat. The coldest of dead winter, clearing snow in a blizzard... face is the warmest thing on the body. 👍🏻😎

    • @cort3079
      @cort3079  8 лет назад

      8ftbed That's right! I don't notice any difference in the Summer. It shades the skin and if you sweat bad enough, it can wet your beard, cooling your face off when the breeze blows through it, sorta like a heat exchanger. A lot of people don't even realize or think of this! Thanks for watching!!!

    here in New Zealand when we see grass tall like this ,NO contractors will bag it, what we do is just discharge it for 2-3 times(raise the cutting height each time to even up the clippings) then just leave it like that.job done. :-)

    • @LeonMTan
      @LeonMTan 8 лет назад

      +Leon M.Tan and of course if the customer willing to pay A LOT extra, we can bag it,i would charge $300-400 for this job. hope you get paid well. awsome job by the way.

      @cort3079  8 лет назад +1

      +Leon M.Tan I have done that with the side discharge before, but I needed this one to look a little better for the seller. If we try to charge 3-400 like you said, we would get no work around here. Just the way it is in this area.

  • @-Pol-

    RUclips led me here after watching some scything videos and by comparison this looks like a lot of noisy, smelly and messy hard work!
    My scythe would've had everything down and swept into easy to gather up rows (windrows) with just one steady pass and with little or no raking after as the unshredded "hay" is easily rolled up into a heap with just the scythe blade. A scythe always starts first time with little maintenance beyond sharpening; no trips for fuel and oil, and no hearing protection required (good luck dodging tinnitus🤞). It also can be loaded into a car with one finger! - I have sold my redundant petrol mower and weed wacker to free up valuable garage floorspace.

    • @cort3079
      @cort3079  5 лет назад

      I like Shindaiwa, definitely have nothing against them. But my trusty Stihl has done everything I have asked of it and trust me, I have asked a lot! There are no Shindy dealers local to me, so I have no support for that equipment when I need it. I have a couple options for Stihl dealers, so it makes more sense to me to stick with Stihl. Again, I believe Shindaiwa makes outstanding equipment and if they ever decide to put a dealership in my area, I would be willing to give them a try. Thanks for watching!

    • @cort3079
      @cort3079  5 лет назад

      103eaglecrest It's not bad, but not the best for tall grass, actually. It's great for weekly cuts and mulching leaves, plus back yards with small gates. I had the chute off, so it was throwing the excess grass out pretty good. This mower has a shallow deck and not much room to process clippings, so in tall grass it tends to leave behind stragglers. Thanks for watching!

    • @cort3079
      @cort3079  8 лет назад +2

      +Dun Rite Lawn Maintenance I have removed the guard for the thicker stuff before. It does slice through thick grass and weeds a little better, but I had rocks and debris thrown at my legs and face more often that I like. There was nobody there to work with if I busted out a window, so I decided to play it safe. I don't do a ton of lawns, so I don't need to get through them quickly.
