    Sweet Lady!
Early 70’s the Houston Astrodome told Elvis that his black backup singers wouldn’t be able to sing on stage. Elvis said if they don’t sing then I don’t either. Elvis loved those girls and respected them greatly.

What an amazing woman! The Sweet Inspirations were part of the Elvis experience. He loved and treated them like family, lavishing them with expensive gifts. He not only sang with them, but ate with them, prayed with them, laughed and even cried with them. One of the venues didn't want to allow his backup singers onstage because they were black, and Elvis told them that if his girls couldn't be on stage, then neither would he. The venue didn't want to lose all that money, so they allowed it.

@Nikki Huffman TCB Is a necklace design commissioned by Elvis that he gave to his inner circle...It stands for Taking Care of Business...He also had it painted on the tail of his jet airplane.

I'm 54 and I've been an Elvis fan for 50 years. When I was 4 and old enough to run the stereo I put on a record that had no cover. It was Elvis and it was the music no image, nothing but the music, my Uncle had forgotten it at my parents and I discovered it. My Baby left me, Old Shep, Anyplace is Paradise, So glad you're mine. I'm still listening. What a dude!!!

I'm 55. I must have been in 1st or 2nd grade when I first heard Elvis. I was watching TV one night, and a commercial came on for one of those K-Tel compilation albums they sold by mail. And the commercial started with the opening lines of "Hound Dog". And I remember this so well --- I sat up straight like a jack knife, my eyes went wide with amazement, and I turned to my mother and said in astonishment, "Who is THAT?!"
      And that was it.
I was going into 5th grade the summer he died. Our phone started ringing off the hook when all my friends started calling to tell me he had died.
That night I went to a Red Sox game, and I kept the ticket stub and wrote "Elvis Died" on it. I still have the stub.
When I was in my early 20s my Dad and I made a road trip from Massachusetts to Graceland. I remember we were doing the tour, and we were in a long, tight, packed line of people snaking out past his grave, and when I finally got to his grave I had the sense that something was going on --- something was happening --- but I didn't know what it was. I just had this feeling like a movie star had arrived or something. It was as though there was some new presence that had entered the grave area and there was commotion in the crowd. Then it gradually dawned on me that this event that was happening was that my chest was heaving and I was sobbing. It was as though my body reacted on its own without the knowledge of my conscious mind. It was crazy.
Then, one summer when my son was 9 I gave him several options for taking a trip together. I forget what the other two were, but he wanted to go to Graceland. While we were there he said he felt at home there, and felt like he had been there before.
      R.I.P.

Elvis always said that The Sweet Inspirations "lived up to their name". I know they were a great vocal group, just like J.D. Summer and The Stamps Quartet, The Imperials Quartet, The Jordanaires and "Voice". And Kathy Westmoreland was a great soprano. All were great groups, and Elvis was lucky to have them all!

@@AbiNomac Cissy Houston is still alive,, she's one of the Original Sweet Inspirations,, She gave up touring to concentrate on her young family n then to pursue a solo career,, they sang back up for a lot of people,, im glad they sang with Elvis he loved n respected them very much,,
In 1963, then about to give birth to daughter Whitney Houston, she formed the Sweet Inspirations with Doris Troy and niece Dee Dee Warwick. Later, under contract to Atlantic Records, Sylvia Shemwell, Estelle Brown and Myrna Smith form the line-up.

I grew up listening to Elvis as a child. My mother and Aunt had every album and movie that he ever did. I was just 2 yrs old when he passed but in our home he continued living on. Now I’m grown with a child of my own, and I still continue listening to his music and try to share with my child what my mom and aunt did with me.

Today I'm 55 y.o. I discovered Elvis when I was around 6 y.o with my father (an amateur guitar player who was a fan). I remembered being flabbergasted watching the movie JAILHOUSE ROCK on our new color TV ....for the little girl who loved to dance on her father guitar music...that man on the TV became instantly her "other" IDOL after her father. Since then, both men died, but I'm still remembering both of them with their music.:-D
