Hi, "snapback guy" here. I know there are a lot of songs missing. You don't need to point them all out. I've explained myself quite a few times on this comment thread in as respectful a way as possible. This was just a small school performance and not a Kpop tribute. I'm sure many of you actual fans are much more capable in producing a "real" evolution of Kpop on a larger scale with this many people, and if you ever do, please let me know! It would be an honor to watch!
you and your friends did an amazing job. I don't even know why do you bother yourself answering each comment. it's youtube, there will be haters that would dislike any video. I enjoyed it and i'm sure a lot others did
Screw all the people complaining about whatever gap there is. This was so freaking awesome! I can't even being to imagine the amount of planning, practice, and patience that went into organizing this. I'm currently practicing for a short kpop dance performance and it's so chaotic and hard, so I commend you for doing this so well! It was totally awesome! :]
***** Yeah definitely! Definite gap, but nicely done. Also, yeah, they probably figured it was best to do the dances they did well, rather than do really hard dances half-assed and/or sloppily.
Why are people so overly defensive about this? Nobody is saying they didn't work hard. Pointing out an obvious over decade long gap is not nit picking. Most of the comments about the gap are still praise. "Great job!" etc.
I think the performance was amazing and entertaining; that's all that matters right? I mean he started from 1994, and ended with 2014. What would he call it: from 1994-1996 to 2007-2014? Of course not. Its tbh, pretty accurate; kpop only really blew up after wonder girls so yea.
Regardless of Kpop blowing up after 2007 doesn't mean that other idols/artists don't deserve to be apart of the certain lists. Even one idol from between the gap would have been nice. His audience also needs to get in touch with some older idols, it isn't always about the "relevant". The video was nice and I enjoyed the dancing, though I just couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed. Maybe there should be two videos instead of just one.
TL;DR - This wasn't made as a Kpop tribute, it was a performance to celebrate our culture to Non-Korean college students aged 18-22. Hi, I'm that guy in the plaid shirt who organized this performance. I know this answer isn't going to satisfy you, but I really did put a lot of work into picking the songs. In the end, even if I wanted to pick one song per year for 20 years, that would have been a very lengthy performance. Obviously I couldn't do that considering there was easily more than one iconic song within every given year. In fact, the years that I listened to kpop the most myself were excluded. That said, I did a bit of research and honestly, I realized that prior to Tell Me and the spread of its dance culture through the rise of RUclips in the mid 00's, choreography was aimed at making the star look good. After tell me, Kpop became more dancable, replicable and fan friendly. Also, we tried to highlight the days where most of the audience (who weren't Kpop fans and only like 20% Korean) had actually grown up listening to Kpop -- that comes out to the later 00's and early 10's for current college students. We started with KimGunMo because 1. it was supposedly the song of the decade, and 2. it was a birthyear for many of our participants. Im a senior right now and if i followed my birthyear it would've had to go back to the days of Solid in 1992. & if I had it my way, I would have never left out the days of GOD, NRG, FinKL, Roora, DJ Doc, BOA, Bi, SS501, DBSK, CSJH....and the list goes ever on. But in the end, we had a time limit of 6 minutes which they graciously let us extend to 8, and we just aimed for songs that were recognizable enough and entertaining enough for our target audience -- non Korean's who we were simply sharing our culture with.
philipjpaek fair enough, although imo u shouldve sneaked in a song from the early 2000s. u guys did a great job nonetheless :) you all looked like you had a great time!
philipjpaek saying theres not enough time is not applicable. Instead of putting so many songs after 2007, you could have taken some away and sneaked in a few from the early 00s
SoneDiadem Of course I could have. But tell me, what song would you have taken out and what song would you have put in? I narrowed a list of 30 songs down to 14 and it wasn't an easy decision at all. I understand I may have disappointed a lot of people but please try and enjoy the performance for what it was. After all, I'm just a college student, not a professional...
Everyone is so ungrateful. This was not a dance performance that was produced by specific entertainment company for Netizens. It was a simple tribute to Lunar New Year. Goodness, rather than having so many expectations and standards did anyone consider to appreciate how much energy and practice they had to put in despite having a lot schoolwork.
Whoaa... this was so awesome!! I liked how there were a variety of dances ranging from the first generation to the current generation of kpop. The song choices were also very good. But I feel like some really iconic dances were missed out like TVXQ's Mirotic, Shinee's Lucifer, Kara's Mister, Beast's Fiction, Rain's Bad Boy and other artists like Shinhwa, T-ara, BoA and Girl's Day could've been incorporated. But still, this was amazing and well done for the effort!!
I find it so freaking RUDE of all you who comment and complain about what songs they didn't dance. Like seriously can't you just understand how much time and work they putted on this performance and say a GOOD JOB instead of being so bitter? Damn...we international fans are pretty rude most of the time..SHAME!
Awe I was hoping to see some T-ara Roly Poly or Lovey Dovey in it but it's alright the choices you chose blended together well. You did great. Also I happened to stumble on this video while scrolling through my FB feed.
I thought they were going to show the popular songs of evey year including hug, balloons, or mirotic by dbsk and I was hoping for aoa and exid but they skipped a few years and very popular songs but it was still good
I was expecting at least Hug or Mirotic to be in there~ Especially since there was such a huge gap from 1996 to 2007. Hug was 2003~ Really wish that would have been in here...
So much unhelpful criticism in the comments. It's not even directed at me but reading them makes me feel pretty annoyed/frustrated - people are missing the point of this performance and getting mad because there are songs missing, or the title is misleading, blah blah. Let's all read the description and remember that this was created entirely by college students, with no professional backgrounds, who spent their hard work and time to create this piece and perform it so that their audience could learn about & enjoy k-pop as much as they do. They didn't have to upload it to RUclips, but the organizer did and we should all be thankful that we even got to see their hard work in the first place (or at least I am!) Read the comments of the uploader if you want to know why they chose the songs they did, then sit back and appreciate the show. Great performance by the way!
Great job! Although as a child of the 80's and 90's, I feel as though there was a lot that was missed from the 90's! Nevertheless, this was a great idea.
Thank you! A big fan of the 90's as well because of my older siblings, the song list was the hardest choice. But our audience was a multicultural group of college students and the song list had to accommodate the time limit we were given for the event, so many iconic songs were dropped especially from the late 90's and early 00's. (FinKL, NRG, 1TYM, BoA, DBSK, etc.) We did our research, and Kpop blew up a lot after Tell Me in terms of easy and learnable dance moves which is why we chose songs post-2007 and narrowed our list of about 30 songs to a final 14.
philipjpaek There was a lull in that time between HOT and Wonder Girls. I honestly stopped during that time, and then Wonder Girls and Kara's butt dance brought me back. Boa was really popular during that 00-07 timeframe, but no one else really stands out from that 8 year span. No butt dance though tsk tsk :) And, poor Danny is probably sad you didn't include "1 Tym 1 TYM for your mind!"
This is honestly one of my favorite dance videos. The girl who dances Growl looks so into everything by the end, the girl in the skirt and sweater killed everything she was in, Bar Bar Bar was so in sync, and that ending always makes me smile. Obviously there is so much more that I am not calling attention to, but everything is just perfection. I don't know how many of you dance for your own joy, but this was really well put together and I sincerely love it.
This is the cutest thing ever!! I love how that you recognize the evolution kpop has gone through and you guys look like you're having so much fun! I really enjoyed watching this! Im sitting at my desk at work smiling and laughing to myself haha It's perfect the way it is ^^
This was awesome! Brings back fond memories from college. Serious props for coordinating such a big group and performing so many songs. From what I've seen, usually these performances only include a few dances that were popular that year. It's hard work finding time during the semester to practice and it must have been difficult teaching that many people. I know the one time as a non-dancer, I was in charge of putting together a small group for a showcase, the girl who was teaching the dance, covered her face, sighed exasperatedly and sat on the floor in frustration at how much I sucked. Felt real bad for her.
This missed a lot of good stuff and skipped a lot of years. Where is BoA, g.o.d., Fin.kL, S.E.S., KARA, SISTAR, After School, T-ARA, miss A, infinite, CNBLUE, 2AM, SHINee, and way more artist they missed
You guys make the dances seem so *easy.* I'm a hip-hop dancer and I can't dance that well to K-pop. Any tips on learning how to dance to K-pop?(for a learner)
Some observations: *I totally dislike the fact that you jumped from 1996 to 2007, men that's more than 10 years. What happened between that? * Also, you picked many songs from recent years. * I can tell your public was really young people because they get all excited with Big Bang, EXO, etc. * I've been told that companies used to focus on boyband and there wasn't many girl groups. That isn't reflected in here at all. * I think you could include a sexy dance, because sexy concepts are a trend now. For example "Something" of Girl's Day would have been great. Apart that, I totally enjoyed the video.
A very big applause for all of the dancers here! The effort you all have placed into it make memories! And I'm proud that 'go crazy' been considered and placed into one part of these!
I must be the only one who enjoyed the entire video. Everyone seemed like they worked hard and look at the outcome! The crowd loved you guys!! I could tell you guys had fun from beginning to finish. And that's what its all about right? Having fun and surrounded with the ones you love. Don't be discouraged by the hostility on youtube. Can you believe people come online and watch a video for free and complain? They are just jealous they don't have friends who would put up a fun performance like this. I hope you guys share more whenever you get the chance and spread kpop in a positive manner like this one.👍 And some people say 2pm shouldn't be on the list but alot of guys really liked that song. I myself am not a fan of 2pm but I like it. Honorable mention: The girl in the center from Tell Me has the attitude of an idol haha. The center guy from Crayon pop was so cute haha The guy in Orange Caramel.. I want to hug him Again, fantastic job! Much love
The snapback guy is actually very good ! He did so great that I was waiting every time for him to come and dance haha Anyways, that was awesome even just for a simple school event/... .
you guys did a really good job! it must have taken quite a while to practice numerous dances with so many people in one single performance! of course you just can't put all the songs from each year to this performance, but it was a really fun performance to watch and pretty sure will be memorable to everyone who took part there. also, the orange caramel part X"D
THIS IS SO GREAAATT!! you guys did an amazing job at this considering the dances are actually crazy hard to learn :) also shout out to the guy with the snapback/plaid shirt !! He was killing it during the whole show especially Catalena lol
OMG THAT WAS SO COOL You can tell that the guy in the middle / the girl in the middle for gee were REALLY INTO THE DANCE THAT IS SO COOOOOOOOOOOLLLL ! Aw man I wish my college could pay tribute to Kpop. Ughh kpop is just so awesome
Perfect! People can complain that their favorites are missing (I for one really wanted to see Mirotic) but the basic point is they didn't have enough time to cover EVERYTHING so they hit all the big ones. And they did a great job! What an awesome arrangement and nostalgic entertainment!
I think you guys did a great job! You clearly had fun putting everything together and performing it and there was a nice balance between girl and boy groups from different labels, which isn't always the case with these sort of performances. Catellena and Go Crazy were definitely my favourite parts xD
Dat snapback guy just nailed Orange caramel's Catallena, so much feeeels damm
I was laughing sooooo hard hahaha
Kevin Hoang He was so into it, you could tell
Foreal
Yes cx
Yes! I love that dude, whoever he is.

good job man.
I LOVED IT!!! I think u guys killed it with GO CRAZY , hahaha ... so much fun! Diz vid made my day!!! hahahaa
you guys did a great job! i was smiling throughout the whole video :)
Can we talk about how in sync they were for Crayon Pop tho?!?!?!
You can tell the dude in the plaid put his heart and soul into it, he was the best. lol
Anika Jade Caswell ikr
The guy with the backwards cap and the plaid shirt was really good. Growl was done perfectly and he reminded me so much of Chanyeol lol
I second that, he was great :)
I agree.
KL Havoc/Pyrex92 SAAAAMMEEEEE
Agree!
Omg!! I was thinking the same thing lol since i have bad eyesight i thought that it actually was Chan Yeol
Screw all the people complaining about whatever gap there is. This was so freaking awesome! Yeah, I totally get you! Oh, DB5K Cassie 5eva AKTF

The snapback guy was so cute, he made smile whenever he was on stage!!!!
Senait Goshu I knoww~ I may or may not have an Internet crush on this guy LOL
Janice Wong I think we both do!!!!
+Senait Goshu Yo, this guy is the owner of this video, he posted it xDDD
SkyGreen Gaming Really???!!!
Senait Goshu YUS ^^

Totally agree with you.
Maybe we can request an evolution of kpop 2? If we ask really nicely. :-D
Maybe they can do a part 2. I am sure they put a lot of work into this and adding more would have been a super big task.
thats was fun to watch, i thought they were going to do EXID up and down at the end.
yes that's what i thought haha
changmin oppa me too EXID up and down is really popular
Only in Korea though and only for the last quarter of 2014, it really didn influence as much as the other songs in this video
I find it so freaking RUDE of all you who comment and complain about what songs they didn't dance.

Ya Roly Poly, Nonono, Up and down, watch your name, something, electric shock, step, ma boy would be fine ^_^
I was also hoping for Roly Poly or Lovey Dovey!!! Roly Poly defined 2011
grossn123
yes! roly poly & Up&down !!
snapback guy, YOU ROCK!!!!
Great...I was hoping for DBSK though since they played such a big part with making kpop popular
I thought they were going to show the popular songs of evey year including hug, balloons, or mirotic by dbsk and I was hoping for aoa and exid but they skipped a few years and very popular songs but it was still good
I though they will at least show 'O' or 'mirotic'
Really though... No DBSK? DBSK made Kpop what it is. There's a reason they are referred to as legends.
I was expecting at least Hug or Mirotic to be in there~ Especially since there was such a huge gap from 1996 to 2007. Hug was 2003~ Really wish that would have been in here...
I was expecting Catch Me because the "Hulk" and "Dragon" dance were so huge. Ah well.
i love the orange caramel one the best. :D that was really funny
also i'd love to see more videos of your dancing! you were really good.
+supimdanii yeah that one dude who was dancing had so much energy he looked like he was on crack xD
I Hope Nick Lives it was awesome!
They did great :) I was a little sad because there was no SHINee. I did notice that the dances became more complicated as time went on.

This was awesome. I was really impressed with the enthusiastic dancing from everyone. Especially that guy doing Orange Caramel. Haha.
I enjoyed this immensely lol XD
Shout out to the guy in the snapback because you killed it, especially during Orange Caramel.
Great job! Although as a child of the 80's and 90's, I feel as though there was a lot that was missed from the 90's! Nevertheless, this was a great idea.

Greetings from Canada.
This is the cutest thing ever!! I love how that you recognize the evolution kpop has gone through and you guys look like you're having so much fun! I really enjoyed watching this! Im sitting at my desk at work smiling and laughing to myself haha

Why is everyone so salty?! This was very cute and very awesome, applause!
This was awesome! Brings back fond memories from college. Serious props for coordinating such a big group and performing so many songs. You forgot TVXQ Mirotic....
In love with the guy in the plaid shirt with the cap, his dancing skills, yes! 😻👌
Wow! Thats pretty amazing
This video did me cry when they were dancing '200%', the emotion, the feels...
This missed a lot of good stuff and skipped a lot of years. Where is BoA, g.o.d., Fin.kL, S.E.S., KARA, SISTAR, After School, T-ARA, miss A, infinite, CNBLUE, 2AM, SHINee, and way more artist they missed
CNBlue doesn't dance. They're a vocal group.I would love to see SHINee though.. :/
Anoushik Boghossian SHINee's ring ding dong dance was one of the best in its timeee so sad they missed that and focused so much on the later songs..
David Kim Sherlock is one of the best dance song of SHINee as well!
Omg and Lucifer
they cant out everything there ofc 😒
The guy that dance to Orange Caramel killed it, it was great!!
You guys make the dances seem so *easy.* I'm a hip-hop dancer and I can't dance that well to K-pop. Any tips on learning how to dance to K-pop?(for a learner)
I oove the guy doing orange caramel. I love how he dances so enthusiastically to both boys group songs and girl group songs. He's goals
a big YESSS!!! for Sorry Sorry!
I'm glad for 까탈레나 they used the version where Nana howls :) Nice job!
OMG is it weird I know all the dances but the first two .... I'm not even korean xD
This was so cute and made me super happy! They must've worked so hard... Also that guy in the plaid has my respect, awesome.
who's the boy at 6:27? haha he has talent.
I love that you can hear people singing along in the background ^_^
Some observations:
*I totally dislike the fact that you jumped from 1996 to 2007, men that's more than 10 years. What happened between that?

Omg! This was just awesome! 😍 so well done! The guy with the snapback and checked shirt was so good!!! 😲😁
I really love this XD
I'm super impressed! Great enthusiasm and much better dancing than I could ever do- this video shows how fun kpop is!
SJ's Sorry Sorry! :D
A very big applause for all of the dancers here! The effort you all have placed into it make memories! And I'm proud that 'go crazy' been considered and placed into one part of these!

I didn't realize that gangnam style and fantastic baby came out in 2012, it feels like it was just a few months ago. Time flies :O
I must be the only one who enjoyed the entire video. Everyone seemed like they worked hard and look at the outcome! The crowd loved you guys!! I could tell you guys had fun from beginning to finish. And some people say 2pm shouldn't be on the list but alot of guys really liked that song. I myself am not a fan of 2pm but I like it.
Honorable mention: The girl in the center from Tell Me has the attitude of an idol haha.
The center guy from Crayon pop was so cute haha
The guy in Orange Caramel.. I want to hug him
Again, fantastic job! Much love
Let's petition to get the *Snapback Guy* his own tv show. XD
The snapback guy nailed the catallena dance. This was really fun to watch! I was smiling throughout the video :)
The guy with the snapback on was sick!
the dude at orange caramel really looks like he's having lots of fun during the entire dance. great job
That was super cool and looked like hell of fun planing this :-)
The guy in Catallena totally nailed it :D... love it
THE 2PM GO CRAZY WAS REALLY CUTE AND GOOD. THIS WHOLE VIDEO WAS A JOY TO WATCH.
You guys killed it, that was so good. And from the sound of the audience they had a great time. Really excellent job to everyone who was up there!
This was fun to watch. The students did very good and "Mr.Thin with the reverse SnapBack" was killin it.
The guy with the snapback was goooooood!! Great job everyone :)
The snapback guy is actually very good ! He did so great that I was waiting every time for him to come and dance haha Anyways, that was awesome even just for a simple school event/... .
How does this not have more views?!? It's so good!!!
That ending was adorable :3 I love AKMU !!!
Who cares what they "missed." It was awesome and looked like tons of fun to perform. None of the drama in the comments matters beyond that.
and i was hoping for dbsk/tvxq/jyj as well in here..they contributed hugely in the hallyu wave spread out through out the world..
I wish I had friends who like Korean music like I do! I would totally want do something like that!! Awesome job :)
The guy with the cap and open shirt was killing it!
The akmu in the end gets me so happy :)
Videos like this is why I love youtube.
I loved how that one guy was furiously clawing the air in Catallena.
I re watched the Orange Caramel part like 5 times. The guy was too funny. Great job!
the fact that they included the masterpiece that is wrongful meeting... i approve
This was a blast to watch. It looks like all of you had fun putting this together and burning the stage. Very well done!
THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER OH MY GOD.
I would cry happy tears if someone were to do this at my college.
The guy with the snap back was really cute...
The Catallena part was probably the best thing that's ever happened to me omg
you guys did a really good job! it must have taken quite a while to practice numerous dances with so many people in one single performance! of course you just can't put all the songs from each year to this performance, but it was a really fun performance to watch and pretty sure will be memorable to everyone who took part there.
also, the orange caramel part X"D
This is FANTASTIC. I can't stop watching it, honestly. And now, i've fallen in love with additional k-pop songs. Love it!!!
Catallena's male dancer was great! I love the whole preformance!!
This is the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my entire life and I absolutely love it.
DAEBAK!!!! Lol "snapback guy" is adorable! He definitely stood out and was for sure the most charismatic!
Even though there is a ten year gap, this is still awesome! Good job for making this happen!!!
I can't stop watching this video!! Great job at the choreography and the overall show.
KARA, DBSK, After School, SHINee, 4minute, SISTAR and T-ARA has a lot of iconic dances... and some younger groups like B.A.P and EXID.
this is the greatest thing I have ever seen thank you for existing
THIS IS SO GREAAATT!! you guys did an amazing job at this considering the dances are actually crazy hard to learn :) also shout out to the guy with the snapback/plaid shirt !! He was killing it during the whole show especially Catalena lol
Orange Caramel was the best part haha
Great job, guys! :D
this is literally the best thing ever
That was awesome!! The energy in this performance was great and it made watching all the more fun!
OMG THAT WAS SO COOL
You can tell that the guy in the middle / the girl in the middle for gee were REALLY INTO THE DANCE
THAT IS SO COOOOOOOOOOOLLLL !
That was awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed that. Its funny that the times I've seen Orange Caramel covered its guys who did it best. Good job guys
Good job! Fun to reminisce too~
"I am the Best" is from 2011, btw
