ZONEofTECH Apple will be fine and Tim Cook is a very good CEO. Jeff Williams has been chosen to lead the design team because he is a product person (he has lead the Apple Watch project) and operations is intrinsically part of the design and product dev. Jeff will also be Apple’s next CEO!
Lastly the reason Tim reacted is not because he is trying to cover something up but because it clearly was upsetting to see people make such big judgements about what they know nothing about.
I think your channel is very good but PLEASE don’t slip into the media story chasing frenzy we see the internet constantly doing. Step back and research but also maybe just present arguments of different facts and scenarios and do an analysis rather than speculate and make sweeping judgements when you have little to substantiate. Rather than suggesting who you think should be put in charge - ask why Tim Cook has really done it. It will lead to more interesting analysis. Also read some Twitter reactions from ex Apple designers who explain why operations is so important with the design.

They probably scrapped the iPhone SE design because I bet the 2020 iPhone will have that square design.. sadly, it seems as if Apple is about to plateau in terms of design..... shrink the bezels and you’re pretty much done. They need to focus hard on the foldable iPhone! Also, give us MacBooks with thinner bezels and a reliable keyboard!

Well.... I think after today I am even more confused about the direction at Apple.... Killed off the 12" MacBook? Throw out the MacBook Escape? Lowering prices on MBA and MBP? Something is telling me there is a going to be a big broo-ha going on in the executive rooms. Over time we will hear the real story and until that time I just follow the news, most of it is very difficult to follow so thanks for lining up the history.

Jony Ive was an autonomous, untouchable employee. There was no approval authority over him; whatever he designed went out the door. He is responsible for a number of design triumphs. I remember him triumphantly showing off the iOS 7 wallpaper that quickly made so many people dizzy that they had to remove it in a quick update. He masterfully decreed Helvetica to be Yosemite's system font, which did not work out at all. He designed the fabulously popular G5 Cube and the incredibly ingenious crowd-not-so-pleasing trash-can Mac, which lost Apple a lot of business in deferred purchases. He also produced not one, not two, but three iterations of the butterfly keyboard, which obviously had not been tested by humans for usability or machines for durability Jony Ive's public experimentation with the butterfly keyboard cost Apple goodwill and again, money in deferred sales. If anyone had had the authority to check Jony Ive's work, the butterflies would never have left the net.
Most of Jony Ive's designs were excellent, and even his failures showed excellent design chops, but he demonstrated that he was too introverted to listen to feedback or test his designs. He was a lone wolf, not a very good manager. Making him CEO would have been a huge mistake.
Jony Ive is an excellent designer, but he is not a god, as his worshipers profess. My thought is that Jony Ive realized he was about to destroy his reputation if he continued to work without an approval and testing process, and resigned to save himself. The fact that he has no ill will to Apple, and that no one in Apple had the power to override his judgment or fire him, shows that his departure was his decision and his alone. Retrofitting himself with an approval and a testing process on his position would have been humiliating. He must have realized that he was a design genius who needed a manager, but didn't have one. So he left.

The functional design issues are their greatest problems, like that butterfly keyboard. Otherwise, if a product's design does not change in some years, that's not necessarily a bad thing. For example, Porsche cars have pretty similar designs, some of them, even among decades. And the reason is - people love that design. Why fix what's not broken? The product could still be innovative in ways other than new looks. I.e: designing the chassis, so that more powerful components fit, etc.

ii Marquise ii ii Marquise ii ok then tell me why you thought that Tim Cook specifically would be slapping Ive on the ass and that that would be “funny”.

From someone who was (briefly) on the IBM PC Jr. design team, this is just how business works; a perpetual cycle of design innovation - and then a lull of cost savings. The iMac is the perfect example, as you noted, 10 years worth of lull!

Yeah... Like including the new MacBook Pro to the keyboard replacement program right at launch...

I don't think he's left to make more money. I think he's likely to make less money and will be happy to make less. It's hard to earn more than an Apple CEO. He's probably left because either he's unhappy with the direction Apple is taking or he wants to design a greater range of products and not just phones and computers.
Apple have failed before. A money man is important to make a company profitable but you don't make him the head guy if your sector is all about innovation with products that have short life cycles.

I liked some of his stuff like the original imac, but honestly I feel like the push for ultra thin design is one of the reasons that current macs have so many issues with batteries and overheating/cpu throttling. I just wish he would have had a little bit more of an eye for usability.

One of the reasons I left Apple for Android is because their innovation became painfully stale.

That is Tim Cook is known for recycle old scraps and jack the price up. And how is the profit working?

I don't understand why people complain about the amount of information given in the video when this is an IN DEPTH tech channel, it's stated in the channel description and he mentions it at the end of most if not all videos.

Yah brother, so sadly true. Really admire your report for its insights, balance, fairness. But we have sensed a frustrating demise of creativity at Apple. Thanks for posting!

It will be interesting when we look back at Apple in about five years and pinpoint all the mistakes they did after Steve died and how the company went from being the number one rated company in the world to being bought by one or another Chinese tech company.

“He wasn’t fired... but he was forced to leave his own company.” Uhhhh sounds like termination to me lol! Jobs was good though because he owned a lot of shares / equity in the company.

Yeah I mean, it's not like he was fired and became poor. He was just fired from the chairman position. Still had major stacks of Apple Inc
