Fortunate it was not during morning rush hour or the death count will be insane.
Yup. Couple vehicles still fell in
A lot of people go over at those hours... I've gone over this bridge a million times night and day. It's next to one of the major eastern us ports. This whole thing is sad and sketchy.
I'm calling out of work because I have to cross lol....
Woooaaah insane bruhh

Yes, I am sure god will resurrect the dead. When was the last time he listened to prayers?
@@TonyFisherPuzzleslol, they have been praying forever
"Portion" ... proceeds to show pretty much the whole thing. Such a tragedy but it was lucky it was in the middle of the night. That bridge is often busy.
It stretches a long way. Much longer than what is shown.
It’s more than 2.5km long. That’s just a small portion of the bridge that collapsed.
The middle (main) span collapsed, but the approach spans on either end are still intact.
Omg, seen this on British TV prayers for all involved 🙏🙏🙏🙏
The ship put out a mayday and They were able to stop traffic on the bridge. But there were 8 workers on the bridge 2 are found 6 are still missing search continues.
I can’t believe there’s people questioning why a bridge would fall after a CONTAINER ship sailed into it 🥱 common sense not so common I think.
Didn't appear to touch the bridge
@@odette6779 oh sorry, by all means give us your first hand in person account of what happened versus what was reported…please enlighten us 😂
@@smartcraft919 I've watched it over and over and I swear it collapsed before the "collision"
Three possibilities: Incompetence on an extreme level, something happened to the ship's steering, or it was on purpose.
Reminiscent of Planned Plane attacks, using ships now. Was it an Illegal Captaining the ship?
Local harbor master had two of their experienced pilots on board, so there's no chance of deliberate anything. Smoke billowing from the ship is a clear sign something was wrong with propulsion/generation, and this ties in with the lights going out, and the reports from the harbor master. Loss of propulsion means no steering, so it's a leaf in the current and wind... which there need not be much of either evident to move such a massive sail area with its shallow draft and very wide beam. Perfect sh!tstorm for the modern sailor.
If that's the case why didn't they shut down the bridge?
3rd option 😂
Socrates -question everything
How the hell can a ship going so slowly crash into something that big and clearly visible?
they have inertia, have mass which makes them slowly and heavily manouverable. Also the more speed, the more manouverability. Them slowing down made it less msnouverable.
Ships are heavy and because of their buoyancy can't brake but only reverse their engines.
Mechanical failure also a possibility. But yes, it beggars belief
Same reason the titanic hit the iceberg.... large ships arent easy to steer as steer on a dime
The ship suffered multiple powerlosses shortly before colliding with the bridge
These powerlosses knocked out the ships ability to steer
By having a power failure and being unable to stop or turn like a bicycle.
WTF thats scary AF.
This is awful.
Man i Wonder How old was that bridge?

A ready-made plot for Hollywood.
In B4 everyone on RUclips starts acting like civil engineers/bridge architects
The designers of this bridge have some serious questions to answer; the supporting structure should be able to deflect a collision by a ship, it's a very old problem.
that bridge is 50 yo. plenty of time since to install special protective measures to deflect ships.
@@ivangalik7848 Spent all the money over seas and on illegal immigrants.

Holy frick.
It as doing what it had proberbly done mny times before, no doybt regulr visitor to baltimore
No veto, no bridge😮
Looks massive event
What was the local pilot doing?!!! I'm pretty sure the captain was not in charge of the ship when it is this close to the port. Now, the port of baltimore is completely blocked.
They said the vessel burned
Ship suffered multiple power losses that knocked out steering
The ships "master" is always in charge, a locl "pilot" is only there to advise the master
@sailormanoyster1849 no. The ship was being steered out of the harbour by a local pilot not by one of the Dali’s crew members which is standard procedure.
Looks like it was a direct hit right in center of pillar
Well. There goes the Baltimore port

I used to cross the key bridge multiple times a day when I lived in Pasadena, MD. It’s a major bridge with lots of history. There is no way to get to work into the city, for Anne Arundel County without crossing the bridge. Lots of people won’t be able to get to work for a long time. RIP to the lives lost ❤
Telegram said traffic is diverted but it will congested to hell. There's some tunnel close by apparently.
God bless those souls in the water ☘️🏴☘️🏴
Scary how the whole thing collapsed, surely there should have been something in place to stop the side that wasnt hit still being able to stand
There was, the other side of the bridge.
No, they definitely had a blackout. Lost streering and probably have right hand propeller which turned it to starboard
i saw this live on a livestream here on youtube. this was so scary to watch since i knew there were city service vehicles on it.
was the ship at least running a horn? the gyus on the bridge possibly could have left.
Sad to note this unfortunate occurrence. Our prayers are with the victims.
Clearly gravity was to blame for this accident
This is utterly tragic. There has to be an inquiry as to how something like this happens.
Power failure on the ship. Can't steer or stop it.
Good point. I’ll bet nobody thought of that. 👍
Feels like a bit of history repeating. Same thing happened to the Hobart bridge in Tasmania. In the 1970s
What’s with the fire on the other end?
It’s nota fire it’s diesel smoke coming from the ships stack as it’s put in full reverse

🇬🇧 Oh my goodness how absolutely shocking. Good luck to search and rescue finding people alive 🙏
it would have a pilot on board that knew the route and area so what happened also its done the route before so its captain had known knowledge of the area and its bridge radar would show the bridge ahead
I don’t think u need radar to see a bridge that size . I’m pretty sure they were well aware of it. Ships can encounter mechanical problems just like any other vehicle. Was more than likely blown or drifted into it by mistake
Or the pilot is currently dead via terrorists who intentionally did this.

the bridge is around 2,5km long, and it's clearly not even half of it on the video, so yes it was just a PART OF IT !!
Poor souls.😔
Watching video on news channels it looks like the ship’s lights turn off, then on, then off right before impact.

There was a construction crew doing some work on the bridge when the ship hit.
Uk rdio mentioned they were repiring pot holeson the bridge ninly immigrant workers😢
Pływałem pod tym mostem ….
Horrific!
It looks like it crashed into one of the worst possible spots: one of the bridges 'legs' that hold it up which is why so much of the bridge collapsed.
Terrible!
Well, it could hardly crash into any other spot, could it? It would either pass under the bridge as it is supposed to, or closer to the river edge be grounded on the river bed.
@@Saintathantwinpeaksyou're overthinking it
Those legs look so fragile. The ship half of this size would probably knock them down. Who approved this project in the first place? This is not a bridge over a creek where the biggest thing that can bump into it is drunk Uncle Joe in his dingy. This is a passage to a major port and the possibility of this kind of accident should've been accounted.
No he's actually simplifying it. The support that holds up the bridge IS the only thing a boat could hit.
@@Nachomansupreme
@@househunt5175 If a ship were too tall it could crash into the bridge while attempting to pass under it.
The whole bridge came down.
The captain had a long time to avoid the collision . . . .
Not really. The slower the ship is going actually means the manoeuvring is slower too. Ironically, if it was going faster then they would’ve been faster to turn out of the way

Maybe they should not allow large container ships to travel in or out of the port after dark.
What is the liability of the captain of the ship at the time? Surely he is up for serious criminal charges!
At the time of transit in this area there is a pilot onboard who gives instructions for navigation of the ship. Although captain remains overall incharge of vessel all the time.
Maybe the ship went blackout and must have lost control for such accident to happen. And also the bridge seems to be weak bridge.
May God be with all involved in this horrible tragedy! ✝️
While we are asking for things can we ask God stop the next one...
Better do something concrete. God won't help, since he clearly does not exist. It's the lobbying and watering down of safety regulations that PEOPLE do that's causing this kind of thing, and PEOPLE who can prevent the next one.
Condolences from India for the victims, now on bridge with SHIP underpass MUST HAVE the waves concrete barrier as safety from certain radius from pillar to keep bridges safe from such irresponsible ship crews, Sad victims lost lives.
