    That's a lovely little TV. I used to work in an electronics store back when this TV would have been new - it was such a cool time for computers, TVs, etc. Things were moving so fast and new technology was so fun. I remember when we first started seeing "big screen" LCD TVs (above 40") and they were so washed out and awful lol. That was when plasma TVs were still king for large screens. I've always found that Sony LCDs (other than the first large screen ones) had a really good picture and hold up even now.

    These high end early LCD TVs can be very good indeed.
    In the first apartment I lived in for a year, the landlords stored their old TV there mounted to the wall, and it was a 2006 early true-full-1080p model. (Guess the landlording was paying well.) Not great black levels but great brightness, all the same inputs, 2HDMIs, and gave off so much heat it was ridiculous! Pretty good speakers too, since it was so thick. It had really deep reds and blues, and interestingly had a triangular subpixel layout for each pixel kinda like a CRT!
    Even though my own TV has picture and speakers far beyond that one, and gives off about a third of the heat, I do miss all those analogue inputs.

  • @kbhasi
    @kbhasi Год назад +2

    Wow.
    The resolution reminds me of how pretty much all new 32" TVs sold in Singapore still use 1366x768 display panels! I wanted to go to the lengths of importing a true 1080p 32" TV from a shop in the UK, before finding out that there was a Sony TV model sold here in Singapore in around 2014 or so that is a true 32" 1080p TV! I have it now.
    (5:24) I've a feeling that the TV model was made in different factories for different countries. I say so because I have multiple IBM ThinkPad 760 series laptops, and the ones originally purchased in the US were made in Mexico, while the ones originally purchased in Singapore were made in Japan.
    (3:37) The TV being from 2005 with HDMI 1.0 reminds me of when I stayed with a friend in Australia, and his spare TV was a Samsung Bordeaux series 32" TV from 2006! He had lost the original remote, but I checked with him while packing and brought a universal remote with me! The TV had too had a single HDMI 1.0 input, which I connected my streaming box to. I was so accustomed to having CEC support on my TV back home but I quickly adjusted to using both the universal remote (for the TV) and the streaming box's remote. It was also probably one of the first TVs to ship with a DVB tuner, to the point where versions sold in Australia did have that, but those sold in Singapore just had an analogue-only tuner as DVB-T airspace in that country were still reserved for Mediacorp TVMobile, judging by a Wikipedia article I read. When TVMobile was shut down, the frequencies were freed up for all of Mediacorp's channels to broadcast across 4 multiplexes, if I recall correctly, and TVs sold in Singapore could start shipping with DVB tuners, though some still shipped without one..
    (3:37) That reminds me: I connected a Mac mini from 2006 that had a DVI output at the time a lot of consumer PC monitors only supported VGA, into the HDMI input of a Dell monitor I no longer have. I might even have photos of that!
    (6:05) That's also a thing Sony do that I like! The ones I know of are 'TV', 'VIDEO' (VHS), 'DVD', 'BD' (Blu-ray), 'PS3' (PlayStation 3 media remote), 'INTERNET TERMINAL' (WebTV), 'AV SYSTEM' (sound systems, including soundbars), and 'DVD PORTABLE' (portable DVD players).

    Our first family HDTV was a Panasonic 27-inch CRT set from 2001-2002 that only had component for an HD input. It could only do 1080i and 480i through that component input so it got to be very limited later in its life. I want to say that same TV did have HDMI at one point putting it on par with a TV like this. What a nice little set!

    Man I remember seeing a TV similar to this as a demo kiosk for an Xbox 360 in late 2005/early 2006 in an electronics store, it was sick as we didn't get an HD TV until 2008 so it was one of the first times seeing a TV that wasn't a gigantic CRT, think it was a little bigger than this one in the video but very similar. I remember it looking so sharp compared to the old Panasonic 27" SD CRT TV we had at the time.
    Also can relate with the plane, I loved the first time I flew, was back in 2016 from Melbourne to Adelaide, it was an Airbus A320 that I flew on. I actually have an enitre playlist of that trip on my channel.

    And here I thought my Sony KDL-46BX420 from 2012 was old! My parents first LCD HDTV was a Panasonic Viera 32-inch from around 2008 if I recall. It looked similar to that Sony set - same exterior color, same speaker design, even had indicator lights on the bottom right corner. Nowadays everybody wants a 4K set so these old LCD sets are being given away or tossed out. I've been wanting to get a 4K set, but since the picture is already clear enough on 1080p, I don't see the reason to shell out $800 on a decent 55 inch 4k set.

      Assuming you have selected the right input, I wonder if the PS3 is trying to run in 1080p mode. I'm not familiar with the PS3, but you may need to connect it to a newer TV, and then see if the PS3 has a setting to force it into 1080i or 720p mode.

    I have same TV. Problem with it is that it has like 7% overscan in HDMI/Component input, which means 7% of your screen is cut off. I have not found any way to fix that on the TV itself. You can do some tricks, like in NVIDIA Control panel, to still get a full picture, but for other things, eg. Playstation3 PSN games, you can't play them, because part of the image is just cut off. Maybe you can fix it in the Service Menu, but that's pretty cryptic for me. To access Service menu you need to put the TV in Standby Mode and push 4 buttons on the remote control: info+ ... 5 ... Volume+ ... (_) . the 4th button looks like a TV-screen, on some remotes you can also press the Power button instead. Inside the Service Menu, you can enter numbers or switch to another Service Menu by pushing MENU on remote.... I didn't find any overscan features to turn off or adjust like V-size H-size... If you find any, please reply to the comment. thanks

      When you say HDMI/component - those are two different inputs, so you're only using one or the other. I would expect some overscan with component, but not with HDMI. Make sure your resolution is set right - it should be 1366x768.
