  • Longest Passenger Train You Will See In America With 3 Amtrak Locomotives & A Long CSX Coal Train Pass The Vacant Ghost Town Of Thurmond, West Virginia! Population 5! A huge steam locomotive coaling tower is next to the CSX tracks. We see the Autumn Colors Express train with 3 Amtrak locomotives including an Operation Life Saver locomotive pulling all kinds of passenger cars. The first train to pass is a CSX mixed freight. Then the special passenger train passes on its way from Huntington, West Virginia to Hinton, West Virginia. Amtrak locomotives and crew power this special train every year about this time so that people can enjoy the leaves changing colours and also attend the Hinton yearly festival. We also see a long CSX coal train with 3 locomotives. The main part of town is right behind this train. I filmed a few more coal trains including a huge coal train coming off the Pax branch which is an RJ Corman Railroad line. I will have a couple of more videos with the other coal trains and a train doing some railroad switching to pick up a couple of tank cars on the Pax line. Check those videos out!
Here are the best frequencies to use to listen in on the railroad action: 160.230 CSX road, 160.320 CSX dispatcher, 160.845 RJ Corman and 452.9375 for End Of Train device.
    Filmed in 4K and 1080p with 30fps on Saturday, October 22, 2022AD
Thanks for watching! If you have time, please watch another video of mine to help keep my channel going. Every view helps support my channel. Viewing time helps pay for gas, motels, rental cars etc. I have a list of places that I plan on filming so watch another video of mine if you have the time.

I should say. (Heatwave). They had a guy called Rod Temperton. He was a fish filleter from East Coast of England. I am from NE Scotland.
      They made song about him.
Play that funky music white boy.
More than half my family worked on the fish.
My late wife was a train conducter.
My Grandfather was an engineer on the trains. He actually got asbestosis, but died watching Aberdeen football club actually win. From heart attack. That will probably happen to me if we win again.

In Scotland, 80% is subsidised by taxpayers. In England 50%.
That is why I love your railways (and Japan). When my wife was working in rail, we got free rail. Went all over Europe. Then Swiss. Zurich to Milan. 50% off and still bloody expensive. I think Swiss do not put up with subsidies.
Every high speed I have been on doesn't even pay the cost of the travel never mind the infrastructure.
Went from Changsha to Shanghai and not one seat was empty (700 miles). China high speed rail cannot pay the cost of the travel (and expensive) never mind the infrastructure.
      USA rail does and Japanese.
      So watch you mate.

@@JawTooth In UK even 125 MPH cost far more than it was worth. Now spending £100 billion to shave off 10 minutes between London and Birmingham. And still going up. Only very rich people will ever take that train.
Example, we did channel tunnel from St Pancras to Paris. Gave us a salad? We are Brits. A bloody salad. And we got 75% off ticket price. Not for actual people I think.
The lassie did find beers though.

      Good info.
When we arrived in guar do nord in Paris.
Instantly got beggars on us. Mostly females (middle eastern). We just went outside for a fag. We don't give beggars money anywhere and politely told them to f-off. Then the men appeared asking why we didn't give them money. We told them actually to fu?? Off.
Then down in the subway an actual frog (frenchman) wanted to organise our tickets. We said "do you think we are blind". My wife had better explanatives.
Basically ferme le busch in Scots.
We actually f'd it up and did 13 stations for the price of 3.

I saw that the Amtrak "Operation Life Saver" locomotive was the last engine on the Autumn Colors Express train. The Autumn Colords Express had a lot of interesting private paddenger cars in the consist. That concrete coal tower in Thurmond, West Virginia is going to stay there until it deteriorates on its own. It would cost more money than it is worth to demolish the concrete coal tower. The railfan population that was present to catch the Autumn Colors Express roll through Thurmond, West Virginia increased the population of Thurmond by at least 10% or more. I presume that we will see at least one more video with the returning Autumn Colors Express train in the next few days.

Wow. All the traction at the head of that coal train. The load on the couplers must be pretty impressive. Coal trains in my part of Queensland Australia typically run 12000HP to 16000HP of electrics, but sometimes diesels, but distributed throughout the train. The Indian Pacific passenger train in Australia runs 30+ carriages. SBS Australia did a 17 hour long slow TV program showing an abbreviated crossing of the country. It's a nice watch if you are into that sort of viewing. Lots of shots of the train itself but also the terrain.

Awesome video JT. Love it when you get back to Thurmond, it sure is a pretty part of the world and the train history there is cool. One of your videos while in Thurmond was my introduction to JT "live action" and I've been watching ever since. Great catches of all the 3 trains but that Amtrak special is really interesting. There is a few cool cars I'd love to have a trip in but that observation car on the end is a gem, a nice piece of rail history.

It looked like All loco's and coal cars had CSX logo, how unusual is that, for whole long train to be property of the one RR company ?

I was very surprised that I could go to street view on Google Earth and see the town and they even had several of the Rush Run Coke Ovens to look at. It does not give the blue lines like bigger towns, just the blue dots. But the area seems well kept up. I bet a house there or a piece of land would be pretty cheap. I could live there.
