- I want to do a little series on the new AX700 Camcorder I purchased. This won't appeal to everyone, but those interested in camera's and lenses and or camcorders may find it useful. In this first video I want to show you some of the lenses I use on this camcorder and then some footage of my Sony VCLHGD1758 Vs Footage with No TC. Thanks for watching.

I just bought this camera in 2022.
Its still brilliant
But I had no idea I could add extra lenses.
Thank you so much!
I'm wanting to buy this in 2023, although I wish there was a refresh.
@@markmattixit's still great.
Thanks for the review of add on lenses. I was using a RX100 V for video, and still use it for hand held and movement but upgraded to the AX 700 which has more reach. Both have the one inch sensor. The macro lens for the AX 700 is more what I need for what I am doing than the telephoto extender. Hope you do more videos on this camera. For anyone doing video who does not need interchangeable lenses it is a serious contender. The battery life compared with most mirrorless stills cameras is significant.
Yes Thanks What_

We might get to see a Sasquatch, Gary.
Good info. Having a head mounted GoPro would have been a lot better for you to use both hands.
That was cool, thnx Gary for the tutorial 👍
Hi Gary and Gage 👋 that amount of gear will keep you busy happy snapping 😀 ☘
You got that right!
Bigdog nice camera!!! I've been looking at all sorts of cameras I just bought like a $200 one going to see how it does at the Ohio rally!!! But nice bigdog!!! Do more Bigfoot stuff..im hooked!!!! 🤘🤙🤘🤙🤤🤤
Thanks Jeremiah
Very interesting. I’d never thought to try stacking lenses on my ax700. Any chance you might be adding a demo of the wide angle lens on the AX700 in the future?
I’m so glad I came across this video. I’m considering buying this camcorder and other videos said you couldn’t add lenses. You are proof you can!!
The videos say you cant change the lens, not add a converter.
Thanks, Gary--great video!
i also have been lurking for AX700 for a year waiting for the price to come down... Anyway Nice video sir, and your demo really helps to plan on what to do once i decided to buy the camcoder.
I’m new to video and bought this camera only to think I made a mistake, i.e (no interchangeable lense) with this video I now know I can get different shots. Thanks
Great stuff Gary. Did you do any more videos on the AX700?
I went for the Olympus TCON-14B (1.45x, 62mm) instead of the Sony VCL-HGD1758 (1.7x, 58 mm), mainly because of:
- 62 mm threads. No need for a step-down ring.
- Minimum WD (Working Distance); 2.8 m/112") vs. 4.2m (165")
- Minimum Focal Length without Vignetting (100mm vs. 136mm). Not very important though.
Both are well-built, heavy ((475g (16.8 oz) vs. 560g (20 oz)) converters from highly reputable lens manufacturers, so I am a bit surprised that you found that the Sony was slightly better than the Olympus. But, I'll take your word for it :-)
Maybe those two manufacturers prioritize differently when it comes to which fringing-color "to go for"...? (because they are not able to avoid it 100%)
I have just switched from Premiere Pro to Davinci Resolve Studio and see that there are two different methods of removing CA (Chromatic Aberration)/ fringing, but haven't tried it yet.
Hey Arnstein, they were both very good...the only thing I didn't like about the olympus (Yeah I still own it) was the chromatic aberration.
A month ago I also bought fdr ax700 and now I'm waiting for wcon o8b and tcon 14b from Japan (ebay)
Thank you for your advice, hope I won't be disappointed
I shoot a lot of sports with an AX700. I'm able to get a quality shot with the camcorder as it is but am considering getting one of these teleconverters to allow for more zoom. Do you think this Sony VCLHGD1758 would be able to get me a quality action shot while panning on a tripod? Or are these made more for stationary shots such as your nature videography?
Hi Gary! I was very interested in your Olympus Macro lens, but you left it in its case and never showed any details, model etc... and no more information in the video description. I was also hoping you'd show some sample sequences with that. I wish you all the best, I'll go hunt that Olympus lens down now wish me luck :)
Thanks Gary.
Can you match the two Sony A6600 and AX700 in a video?
Hi Gary, very enjoyable video. I Have a question about the Olympus Marco Lens what is it, (model)? thank you in advance.
wonderful !
Hi. Thanks for posting this video. I compared some snapshots at full zoom for the camera and with the TC, and looks to me like there is not only no degradation, but improved resolution with the Sony TC, with a little more definition in the head feathers and tree limb. Good job!. Can you tell me if the TC restraining ring is removable? I have a Tiffen 2x and cannot remove the lens to clean it of mold because the restraning ring has is not removble.
Just purchased a AX700. Hoping to get a macro and a TC lens. So for the step down ring, it’s a 62mm to 58mm step down ring? Also, will you make a video showing the AX700 shooting macros? Thanks! Awesome video!
yes thats right pardner
That lens gives quite the zoom. What kind of tripod are you using in the video?
Can I use Tele converters with this camera to get the cinema close wide and far shots?
Loved the Tony TC but what do i know! Awesome instructions and tips! 👍😊👍
Thanks 👍
@@GaryReedUnfrequentedWorld 👍😊
what was the distance to the robin you filmed? Trying to get an idea of what the zoom looks like it distance. Thanks!
What is the model number for the Olympus Macro lens you showed at 2:25 in the video?
I have the same question, did you ever find it? I wish he has responded to your question.
Good
I'd like to know the model number of the Olympus Macro lens. You forgot to mention it! Thanks
Same here, did you ever find it?
Please tell me what kind of macro lens of Olympus do you use with camera? mcon-35?
Of course
why not place the step down ring onto the wide lens then attach , but rubber band that is good tip idea .
i just got step down ring and same sony wide lens for AX700 4k sony handycam i see how it is when attachments arrive good on that woodpecker
So in order for the lens to fit on the device you have it has to have the same millimeter thread or number? If the lens is smaller than the device number, step down ring. Bigger upgrade ring? At first I thought if the Lens was lower than the device mm thread size it could fit, or in other words i thought any small lens can fit on any device with a higher thread….
Any recommendations for good - and affordable - tripods, specifically for camcorder filming?
They are MANY tripod choices out there, cheap, expensive, heavy and light....i scratched my head a long time before i went for the Benro A1573FS tripod, they are very good for my use ,- smooth movements, a good video head S2PRO and a bit pricey ,but worth it.
@@Bullski123 Thank you, will look it up immediately!
Thanks for the video. Now you need a tripod for your phone. 😁
hey man, on 4k i can see the peach fuzz on your nose :)
Thats a lot electronic fire power.
ZOOM baby!!!
Gary do you consider this camcorder a better investment because of it zoom/ magnification capabilities then a high end $1400.00 binoculars? I do some squatching and want some magnification to help spot them. I find cameras, camcorders anything electronic challenging. Thanks
@@avocado9763 depends on the end goal. If you want to record your finds...yes...if you don't mind carrying a lot more weight...yes...otherwise just use binoculars...
땡큐
I could find a real trio Olympus for my Sony fdr ax700
Wcon 08b, tcon 14b and mcon 35 and even more super macro Raynox dcr 250
The time has come!
Spent more time fiddling with the ring and talking about not tightening too much than showing how the camera image system works.
Could you do a wide angle comparison like you did for the tele converter? I appreciate it!
Do you know how your wide angle lens compares to the Zunow WCX-80 with step up ring?
My brand new AX700 has an annoying blinking nd off caption on the lower left of my screen... Does ANYONE know what that is?
It means your AX700 neutral density filter(s) switch is on.
@@edbarok4619 Thanks for the help!
I'm not sure why you call that a teleconverter. A teleconverter is just a tube you insert between the camera body and lens to bring the lens further from the body. No?
I have the same camcorder, but a bmpcc4k and a zoom olympus lens can be cheaper and offers raw as well. U loose af thou
why dont you put links or specific model numbers that work. this is not elementary school
