I wonder how many times I’ve listened to this song. So many, as a teenager living at home, this album on my record player. My family must have heard it and groaned! So hard to believe Michael is gone now, but the legacy of his incredible music is still here. And I’m listening to this song…AGAIN!❤️
I did not know Michael passed. I am sad to find this out. Heaven must of needed a singer with his kind and compassionate heart and that one in a million voice. RIP.
For some reason, i was just recalling seeing Michael Johnson at least twice in Champaign -Urbana in the early 70s. Googled him and this song. What a gorgeous voice he had! Thank you for posting this. ❤
I sang this song every night to my darling baby son. His name is Dylan, he's a song writer and musician now. We will carry on, Michael. "The radio laughed too, I held up my arms to rejoice"
Rest in peace Michael. Your person, voice and performances will be with me through my life. I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with you.
I first heard this about 1990 and loved it. I still do. One measure of great music and musicians is how they endure. We never tire of listening to them. Very late in Michael’s touring career I was fortunate to see him live in a very small venue (church community hall) in Fernandina Beach, Florida. The night was magical. Thank you, Michael. RIP.
Rest in peace, Michael! Your music over the years was wonderful, and your concerts locally the last few years will be in my memory for the rest of my life.
I just learned he was gone... I used to play his songs with my guitar case open for change in the Dinky Dale mall in Minneapolis. I am sorry he is gone.
My old partner, voice extrodinare, sang this song in our duo Amdahl Wolfe, (Gary Amdahl and Craig Wolfe). Gary is gone, but I shall remember always this song and Gary's beautiful voice.
Became a fan in 1973 in Minnesota when MJ was living about a mile away from us. A lifelong fan since then. Saw him every single year he played in Minneapolis on Dec 26. "Circle of Fifths "is my favorite, followed by "I Can't Get to You from Here"
i say, we were probably at the same concert! i made it a high point of many years in the 70’s and 80’s to be at those holiday concerts of MJ! such an amazing talent with instrumentals and songs with actual lyrics, not just repetitive words. 🎶🎵❤️
I saw Michael in the Illini Union at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. I think it was 1973. I see from the comments that some others in this thread were at that concert. While passing through the student union as I was taking a walk after studying, I came across Michael giving a small concert for no charge. His voice and guitar-play captured me and I stayed for the rest of the concert. It was really an intimate setting which he so deftly engendered. I purchased, "There is a Breeze", and have been so grateful for his music ever since. It's like his spirit remains with us, especially when hearing his music. I have great appreciation for him and the musical gifts he's given us. Rest well, gentle troubadour.
Yes! I love Michael Johnson and his music. I saw him in the USD (Vermillion SD) student union cafeteria hall in about spring 1974. He was great. Did a solo gig. When he sang "I've Got You Covered" and played that nylon-string classical guitar I almost soiled my trousers. It just made me shake, he was so good. 2nd or 3rd row back, with my brother (R.I.P.) - Michael was all perfectly on, no faking that, no mixers or sound tricks.
and Lui Collins also does justice to Greg's song though hearing Michael's voice fills me with such emotion. Rita, Leona, Deb, Brian, Joe, Frank, Tim, all alive in my heart even if you are not walking this earth.
Chris Dedrick played bass on this tune and was part producer for the album. He along with Phil Ramone and Dave Green worked very closely with Michael when this was done at Manta Studios in Toronto, Canada. A very special project for all of us who worked with Michael at that time. I played drums and percussion on this and other selections....
@@garygauger1061 thanks so much for the update of the technical details of the album from which the song came. Thanks also for helping to make this great album and sharing it with the world.
@@garygauger1061 Thank you for this reply. I often wondered about the musicians in this song. Everybody played just right to make it magic. Played it for my son when he was a kid(he's 50 now). All my neighbors know this song from frequent campfire hoots. Got to see Michael Johnson play a solo gig at the Community college just outside Rochester,MN. He played many of his originals and Jackson Browne's "Opening Farewell". What a night!
How is it that this album isn’t on iTunes? Absolutely brilliant ❤️
I know, right?

Great song written by Greg Brown

still makes me cry . . . oh for those days :'-(
Yes it is a very melancholy tune. Hope you enjoyed it!

I'm glad that you and your son both enjoyed this wonderful tune.
Also sung to my baby, also a Dylan - so many years ago. He also became a musician.
Rest in peace Michael. Your person, voice and performances will be with me through my life. I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with you.
Rest in Peace Michael. I heard him once in Champaign, Il. and fell in love with his music...

It is Amazing how this MAN could put so much Imagination to Music. Love Love Him
Such a wondrous, resonant voice. Thank you for all the music you blessed us with, Michael. I'm sure you're singing with the angels now!

Sorry for your loss, but happy to present it to you (again).

I memorized this song when I was a child, just forty years ago.
Like so many other people commenting here, I made it part of my heart.
RIP Michael-- you have influenced my life and music since the early 70's. You will be missed.

My favorite Michael Johnson tune. I love this.
But composed by Greg Brown. Look for his version on YT.
Thank you! I will look for it!

@@joevee8337 Also, check out Jon Gailmor's version, which he has been performing since 1978. Amazing.
For some reason this song just popped into my head for the first time in over 40 years. Unlike some that I revisit, this one's still good.
It definately is a great tune.
RIP.....Thanks for my college memories.
CAN'T GET THIS SONG OUT OF MY HEAD
Better than getting "Sugar, Sugar" stuck in your head.
@@MrJwcorr Oh, honey, honey..... Thanks for THAT, Jeff.
👍 Thanks for posting! Gotta listen to this every so often....! 😎
You are more than welcome!
"God bless motorcycles" - indeed.. they are what keep me sane !
A sacred song.
Great song! 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it! Happy Holidays!
Is it possible that this guy outcroons JT? This is my first pre-1978 excursion into the older MJ. What a voice.
I love James Taylor, but Michael Johnson certainly gave him a run for his money.
Yo I sang this at camp and it was great! Everyone kept singing afterwards!👍
I saw him in Bristol VA. 1977 on college tour. He can play the strings off a guitar. circle of 5ths a favor.
Still a very fine rendition of this magical song. Who is doing the bass work? Anyone know?

Greg Brown wrote this song.
Michael's birthday
How about For all you mad musicians
No disrespect for Michael Johnson, who I truly love, but I think that Jon Gailmor's version is the best. Check it out if you haven't heard it.
The Greg Brown version is like a different song! Yes,, I know he wrote it.. Michael's version is so much better...
Anyone know if he knew Jesus?
I am not sure of that, but I do know that his music was certainly "heavenly".
You're gonna hop in your old Ford
And strap on your new sword
Wait for the good Lord to return
If you got your honey
Life can be pretty funny
????????????
I hope you both enjoyed this!
