Mike Myers states, “There’s nobody more Canadian, than a Canadian who no longer lives in Canada.” I’ve live away from Canada for years. Mike’s comment is right on point!
I think its true. Internally there's enough multiculturalism and neutrality about nationality, but externally we REALLY want to declare ourselves as Canadian. But this is also a sort of thing in many/most/all(?) nations, its just Canada doesn't embrace overt nationalism and its been so long with that, that this pattern has become an agreed trait.
That's correct for every ethnic group, Mexicans are more Mexican when they live in the US, that when they actually live in Mexico, Jews are more Jewish in any other country than when they live in Israel....its just human nature
I've been in Hanoi for 4 years. Not once have I met another Canadian. But I did share an elevator with a group of elderly Koreans one day, and the group leader asked where I was from. When they heard I was Canadian, they patted me on the back and said thank you for fighting for them. It was a really nice experience.
You tell 'em, Mikey. Terrific observer of American and UK culture. That's what Canadian comedians are so good at - observing others and writing about it. IMHO, SCTV was on par with SNL.
I've lived in 4 different countries in this small world and I've been to several countries to visit and I've met people from all over the world, and I am Canadian. I had a Canadian style Gastro Pub overseas bc I am proud to be Canadian and I was offering a 'Canadian' experience. The view of Canada and Canadians from a majority of people from other countries is Canadians are considered 'The Friendly People'... After 9 years of living outside of Canada, I have learned that in general ppl like us Canucks.
Canadian comedians owns the world... John Candy, Dan Ackroyd, Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Martn Short, Eugene Levy, Norm MacDonald, Tommy Chong and Michael J. Fox.... to name a few.
If you're the right age and grew up in northern New York, you most certainly DO know the Beachcombers. CBC came over the air, and was part of our cable packages in the 70s.
Is it? I thought maybe he meant Mike Myers is about as funny as your average lead salesperson at Canadian Tire - which is true, and there's nothing wrong with that; your average lead salesperson at Canadian Tire is kind of a comical guy - who probably could be a successful comedian south of the border ....
+0The0Grand0Corruptor0 This was why he got out of Canada and came to the United States of America! America is a true independent country, a place to dream big and to have those dreams turn into reality (hence: the land of opportunities). Mike Myers wanted to be a big Hollywood Star. He worked hard towards the goal and his want became real! However, at the end of the day, he never forgot Canada (some people will or worse, even deny). ... Never forgetting your origins is the most precious thing ever! *I am an American, and I am proud to be one. 😊
American guy here. I love Canada. I enjoy it so much every time I go there. And the ladies....whoo...those Canadian gals sure are cute. No matter what city.
Matthew Yoder Lol North Americans are pretty funny. Americans can be pretty funny too. Kevin Hart amd Will Ferrell are pretty funny. I wish I lived in North America I live in Japan. sorry for bad English
I WAS FROM Toronto. When I was at grad school in nyc, I had a part time job with the scenic crew at SNL and the head set designer would call me CANADA. I loved it.
we are very proud of our relatives and friends up north in Canada...(uncle born there, became a US marine) its how much we appreciate Canada. Mike keep up the good Canada pride baby....uuuraahh Canucks.
Canada is an amazing diverse place full of wonderful people, it may not be perfect but there are many people around the world whom would love to have our standard of life and liberty
Wow!! Thats me exactly . I was born n bred in scarborough toronto till i was 20 then moved to scotland n im so proud to be a canuck now where i was proud to be scottish when i lived there
I'm Italian, I lived in several countries, never in Canada though which I visited several times for work. No country is perfect, Canadians ought to be proud of what they achieved, a truly great country and unlike others, you know who you are, they don't waste their time thinking or trying to convince others they are ''exceptional''.
I have to say, myself, being from Northern Minnesota, he is SOOOO right. We have a rep of being Minnesota Nice as well. I really relate to everything he has said. Everyone I have met from Canada is exactly as he has stated. Polite, nice, non-adversarial, (sp?) and "Ya" hockey fiends. lol. Id LOVE to see him make a comedy of Canadian Life... full of heart and humor,....hes got it down. What a great guy.:) ( ok there IS RED GREEN..Also a great show)
I wished that I could return to Canada. I miss it so deeply and feel Canadian at heart - I miss my time in Ontario so much. Bring me back Hamilton, Ontario please. I love you
having recently visited west coast canada for the first time, and after spending time in america first, i agree with so much of what he says. Canada is a beautiful country, the people are generally really nice, the culture is driven by social liberalism and they do cities really really well too.. But unlike america, there was no film , music or book I could latch onto as a cultural reference point or point of comparison - in america everywhere I went I could imagine movies from my childhood, or bands I listened to. Still, I hope to go back to Canada very soon
If i'll ever leave germany i want to live in Canada. I went there when i was about 14...I'm 30 now. Still dream about it. Greatest country i've ever been to! My ex-uncle is canadian and he is a great guy! Most cool guys in Hollywood are Canadian. Would love to live there
I've traveled abroad a few times and I always wear the maple leaf somewhere on me and I have been treated exceptionally well BECAUSE they realized that I was Canadian. So I also enjoy being Canadian in other countries lol
Talia Price *Canadian* is a Nationality ... not some so-called *skin color* - Canadian is a set of *values,* most of which is enshrined in *Canadian Charter* (Google it) Unfortunately Canada still has a dying *Illiterate Podunk Militia,* which hates our Charter - If YOU identify with Canadian Values, by all means apply legally for residency .... we really do not care about your skin color or place of birth

***** I am currently in Toronto, and I have been here for almost a month, I am came here to start a new chapter in my life and to live in a country that is safe and tolerant. I am the complete opposite of the stereotypical American. Canada is my home now, and I hope it will be my home for a long time. I want to build a foundation here. I agree with everything that Canada stands for.
Canada and Canadians are great! Every country has good things and bad things. Some go through terrible periods for some "not so hidden" interests but in the end it's a wonderful world.
Instead of all this Mike you have millions of Dr Evil fans. Would you PLEASE get going on a new movie for us finally....we have been waiting so long. PLEASE.
What's weird is I've never lived in Canada but everyone seems to think I have a Canadian accent. I was even stopped by the lady checking me out at a store and she asked me while blushing if I was Canadian. I was like no but I took a vacation to B.C. when I was a kid.
I used to have a copied recording of The National's opening sequence on a Mixtape, just for the novelty. Myeres is fascinating in this program that seems like a notch like Charlie Rose.
So nice to see this interview, especially as a Canadian living outside of Canada. I couldn't help but notice though, it seems to me like Wendy Mesley is holding something back for part of this interview.
shes trying to make it seem like Mike doesnt want to admit tht canada is great or something, which its kind of not all tht, and so she goes like do they talk about us? When in reality, Americans really dnt. Its not our fault canada cnt keep up with America. I dnt even know y we should keep referring to it as North America when canada wants to be its own country and so does mexico.
Mike, what the heck are u doing? Millions of us fans of Dr. Evil want a movie about him. WHY are you so disappointing all his fans? Would you please get off your butt and do one for us. Heck with Austin...we want Dr. Evil. He looked so great on SNL! Do it already for us!
Canadians like Australians both gained their nations independence from Britain peacefully without resorting to an armed revolt. So our societies never rejected the polite British culture because of any Anti-British sentiment in our histories.
I love this interview, however, let me disagree with one sentence: "We are not a culture for export" We are, listen to The Tragically Hip and just rejoice in your youth, seeing the great lakes, hearing the loon and revisiting your campfire nights.
He's right though. Sorry Canadians, but we don't think about you that much. Even us that love Canada and are named after fictional Canadians. Canada is just that awesome cousin up north that we have. You're cool as hell and fun to hang with.
People stop comparing with what you believe. I am Canadian by nature but I love all people regardless. Yes we are America's younger brother. But that's ok. They say wisdom comes with age. Wrong! Wisdom we all have from the day we are born into this world. So America has so much bullshit happening that you lose your place. No matter what happens...Canada will always be there for his big brother!

Mike Myers has so much substance. Proud that he is Canadian.
I'm Australian. Never been overseas, but I would absolutely love to visit Canada! Beautiful land, beautiful people!
im american and i went, it was nice people there
He's absolutely right when he says we're more Canadian when we live abroad.

Its like the exact opposite when you're American living abroad since like 99% of the world hates us.
Too bad the basis of the Canadian identity/culture is "not being American" when it's very derivative of it, and I saw that as a Canadian
Miss him in the movies ..........luv him. Thank god for Canadians. Getting your book and can't wait to be more Canadian. God blessed Canada. A
eh...
Take a flying fuck back to America.
***** it's like a fuck but you are flying, so it's more dramatic.

You tell 'em, Mikey. Terrific observer of American and UK culture. That's what Canadian comedians are so good at - observing others and writing about it. IMHO, SCTV was on par with SNL.
SC was better than SNL. SNL just outsourced SC to America.

Love Mike, spent some time with him on his birthday one year in NYC on my ship.
Mike Myers has beautiful skin he doesn't look old glad to see he's taking care of himself and that he's doing well.
you have nice skin
Canadians are the loveliest people in the world. You indeed are the closest nation to perfection.
Joanna X I hate being known for being polite. He doesn't what being a Canadian. He thinks Toronto is Canada.
sissy lou what's wrong with being known for being polite? Canadians have the best PR in the world, literally no other country in the world hates you
Joanna X Like Sweden. No thanks.
Joanna X I cannot argue with that....and yes Canada got it right .........cheers from the USA (or what is left of it)
"A Country of Cooperation"...what a great tag line for Canada! (PS: I love your flag.)
If you're the right age and grew up in northern New York, you most certainly DO know the Beachcombers. CBC came over the air, and was part of our cable packages in the 70s.
Mike Myers would just be lead sales person at Canadian Tire if he had stayed in Canada.
... so .... your point is ... ?
You need to go to America to pursue a acting career. That's what his point is...
Is it? Matthew Yoder Lol North Americans are pretty funny. Americans can be pretty funny too. Kevin Hart amd Will Ferrell are pretty funny. I wish I lived in North America I live in Japan. sorry for bad English
Leslie Nielsen the greatest parody actor of them all. And Jim Carrey, just one of the greats. Canada should be proud

I think Canada has the highest Italian population in the world outside Italy.
"In a perfect world you wouldn't need a Utopia" is one of those peak dad jokes XD
Love Mike Myers!
I love Mike. I liked that he said in a round way, It's easier to love Canada when you don't live there.
You will always be a great Canadian ,Wayne !!
I love how the Canadian accent is sort of a British American hybrid.
I’ve always been a fan of Mike Myers !😊

I loved Beachcombers! It was televised here in Oz in the 80s
We need a sequel to The Love Guru.
Bradley Coates No, not really.
^^^^ said nobody ever ^^^^
I LOVED Guru!!!
We need a Wayne's World & Bill & Ted put into one movie like they did with Batman vs Superman, Freddy vs Jason, & the Jetsons meet the Flintstones.
Mike Meyers (as well as Dana Carvey) is my favorite SNL alum!
I've traveled abroad a few times and I always wear the maple leaf somewhere on me and I have been treated exceptionally well BECAUSE they realized that I was Canadian. So I also enjoy being Canadian in other countries lol
I love mike myers
Just finished the Audible of his book: loved it!
love this 💝
I love how she’s almost trying to shut down Canadian stereotypes but knows she’s guilty with the “Oh yeah.” 🤣
We used to watch Beachcombers and Anne of Green Gables over here in Germany years ago :)
Keep it polite Canada 🇨🇦
I love Mike Myers!
Nice interview. Really talented guy.
Seems like a nice and thoughtful dude.
Great interview.
I want to be Canadian.

He looks very scouse in this interview, I can almost imagine him standing in the masons in the swan waiting on his footie bet to come in.
that was a good line he said, Americans dont think about Canadians because it is true
I'm an American and Mike is right!
When did Mike Myers's hair go white?
it happens to humans that are above the age of 50 it will happen to you believe it or do you dumb ass
She asked when you dumbfucks, she didn't deny the existence of white hair.
***** Maybe read my comment before you reply, I don't give a fuck what it means in your country.
I know people who have gone bald by the age of 20... I've known people to have grey hair at the age of 25... it's just bad genetics / stress.
He now has Donald Trump's hair
Hahaha I'm pretty sure I met Mike this exact day this was filmed haha.
This is a stark contrast to what he had to say about Canada in Joel Choen's documentary.
Canada is a great country, Canadians should be proud. By the way, I'm American
Good interview. But what the hell happened at the end?
Austin Powers is the greatest Canadian film export be it makes fun of British culture, but Mike Meyers represents Canada.
So our societies never rejected the polite British culture because of any Anti-British sentiment in our histories.
...and both countries remain part if the British Commonwealth. What's up with that?
AUSSIEDAVEROCKS Canada is not independent. We are a Commonwealth nation - still tied to the British.
Proud Canadians don't leave Canada
Interesting insights on how creating sketches on SNL goes.
Mike For PM!!
Austin powers needs to return for one final show down!
Austin powers: The final Mojo
Ireland had the Beachcombers
I love this interview, however, let me disagree with one sentence: "We are not a culture for export"
We are, listen to The Tragically Hip and just rejoice in your youth, seeing the great lakes, hearing the loon and revisiting your campfire nights.
To use Mikes words: Mole MOLE MOLE YOU HAVE A MOLE SIR!!!
Wow, Steve Martin has packed on the weight.
Lol

ALL FOR CANADA .. we are going LIVE for CANADA .yes live video feed
Its strange hearing him doing a Liverpool accent. Never really heard him do that before.
His mum and dad were born in Liverpool England, that's why he does it
A lot of our news is about the U.S. But the greats are Canadian .

I. love. mike. myers
Ive never seen an interview with him
A Nation of my favourite reasonable people. If Canada is exporting nice then I hope more countries take them up on it.

He needs to get on that Canadian move project.

Amen on PC argument. Glad to seem I’m not alone on that feeling that anti-pc is often anti-polite.

It's not that Americans don't think about Canada or Canadians per say, it's that they don't think about anything other than themselves.
