The divisional expectations feel interesting as well. The Steelers can look around and feel every team could win (and lose) the Division. Those 6 divisional matches become so cut throat that it’s a gauntlet of ‘must wins’ before you even hit the postseason. Steelers’ decisions will be ‘win now’ and will turn on a dime far quicker if a trip starts looking like a stumble or if a window of opportunity opens to the postseason. Meanwhile, it feels like the Mahomes effect is so strong (Chiefs having won the AFC West the last 8 seasons, and converting that into the last 6 AFC Championship games at absolute worst) that the expectation ceiling for the Raiders and Broncos becomes ‘Wild Card ? Can we be the 5th-7th best side in the AFC ?’ This gives each side a squishy soft landing to fall on if they aim for 11-6, but end up anything above 8-9. Even a terrible season can be shrugged off. ‘Oh, but they had Minshew/O’Connell or Stidham/Rookie Year God Bless Bo Nix that year against back-to-back Mahomes & Co’. Neither side need to tank, but neither side needs the expectations of success. It’s horrible to say that some seasons, teams just ‘exist’, but both sides can just build in the shadows…. and beat Harbaugh’s Chargers senseless.
As a Raiders fan, we absolutely have to have high expectations even if it's just to keep us from seeing what terrible coaching hire Mark Davis will make next, we need AP to succeed just for that reason alone
Last year's pre-season was wild. O'Connell and Pickett both looked great while Stroud struggled. Really shows that pre-season game performance should be taken with a grain of salt
lol no they shouldn’t have. They won inspite of that man. He is a great guy and a fun guy to cheer for as a good underdog story but he just isn’t any good. Steichen did everything he could to hide him and only had him take very calculated shots.
Why are the majority of the Justin Fields highlights show off his running compared to his arm talent? The ability to scramble and take off running is nice, but I want my QB throwing more than running. I hope it works out for him, but I just don't see him as an elite QB in the NFL.

It would say a lot about Drake Maye right now if there weren't one. You know what you got in Brisett and that is a below average starter. If it's a tie, keep the veteran but if Maye shows any glimpses in camp or preseason, he should be the guy week 1. And I don't just say this because rookie QBs historically don't do well week 1 and my Bengals play the Pats week 1....
@@moopert86 @moopert86 Well it DOES suggest something about Maye, but the word isn't that Maye is pushing to start over Brissett, its that Joe Milton is looking better then Maye and making a real case for being the guy who takes the keys from Brissett whenever they decide to start "the rookie". Granted that could also be a reflection on how good Milton has looked, but still, not a great look for Maye that he's been outplayed by a 6th round QB taken in the same draft to be the teams back up of the future.
Pretty sure jjetas will not be happy if JJ doesn't start. The GM knows he's just keeping competitive energy in the locker room. JJ will likely start by week 2 or 3 at the latest. However, he's a tough SOB and is way better than you would think he should be, the rare QB that's much better than the sum of his parts. My prediction is that he's going to have a long and storied career of bouncing around the NFL being a bridge QB for teams that are targeting the next draft for the face of their franchise, and then ruining that draft by winning two or three more games than the team wants to that season, maybe even backing into the wild card in a weak division.
I don't agree, I feel he has a far higher ceiling. If supported right and played to his strengths... AOC will have a 2 or 3 post season attempts over the next 5 years.

I will say to be fair to Russell we all say Payton’s yellow pages sized call sheet last year, that could be a bit confusing especially one coming from Hackett’s call sheet that was just a bunch of references to ear fornication.
As a colts fan, I can confirm to Steelers fans that thinking an old stopgap QB is the answer, won’t work out too well. Also, Words of the wise: if you have 2 starting QB’s, you don’t have a starting QB.
Steelers are indeed in QB purgatory... But we also didn't pay a meaningful amount for either Wingus or Dingus, or give up and draft capital, so it barely matters if they are dreadful. Compared to last year one or other of them will probably be a bit better overall, and if they don't even make it that far then we were going to be looking for an FA or high draft pick next year anyway. We literally lost nothing to try out two guys who might be alright, and we had three guys who suck, so... Minor upside.
The down side is wasting a year with that defense. It's going to keep you in games and probably win a few of them. Which is not good if you're counting on draft picks to bail you out of QB purgatory. Ask any Broncos fan.
@@rosstaylor1137we don’t call on high draft pics , we never have . Our team has historically been built much differently than the rest of the league and that’s why we’re constantly competitive. We draft the best don’t need to be high
I think the Steelers will start Russ at the beginning of the season, but I wouldn't be surprised if they put Fields in by week 7-8 for a change of pace if they aren't producing on offense enough. The one thing that is certain about Fields is that he can make big plays when he needs to. Russ has always been more of a consistent passer throughout a game, so if he starts off bad, he's gonna finish bad.
Nathan Rourke is gonna be the Atlanta Falcons starter. I’ve been hoping for sooo long that he makes it. The teams he was with previously with somehow didn’t want to give him a shot. A quarterback with playoff experience in CFL, won the Natty in the Canada University championship. The Giants really decided to put him on waivers. And the Patriots wouldn’t give him snaps in meaningless games. And the Jags didn’t make him at least the third stringer. Oh he also set the CFL Rookie touchdown record and a few other ones. I scream WHY THE FALCONS?! But now I hope they trade him to an actual good team when everyone sees how good he actually is. He’s literally the BEST Canadian quarterback prospect we’ve ever had.
Calm down there jr. The Raiders will beat you twice in a season soon enough like they always do. Btw, Raiders did loose Josh Jacobs RB for the guy who only ran 85% as much as him against the broncos- so that part should give you hope. But the defensive line had Maxx Crosby and an injured rookie up front- now the rookie is healed and a sophomore, has increased his 40 time by over a full seccond from last year and his get off on the ball snap was the third worst in the league. Now he is in motion literally in half the time. His bench is now up 50 lbs more. The entire backfield is on fire now with the improvements made by new coach AP. But I will be cheering on you broncos to beat up on Patricia Mahomeless. I would seriously be happy to stop going 2/0 broncos and 1/1 chiefs to swap that around. Btw- I can’t lie- I’m anxious as can be to start also, just gotta harass ya man! Have fun RRRRAAAAIIIIDDDDEEEERRRRSSSS!!!!
As a Bears fan, the Steelers have to know what they have in Justin Fields. He’s a generational talent that Ryan Pace and the coaching staff failed. Ryan Poles and the reworked coaching here in Chicago are trying to do their absolute best to not fail Caleb the way they failed Justin. Say what you want about Justin but in an offense that allows him to be mobile, he has the potential to be top 10 elite
From a Raiders fan: No. Carr was consistently a good QB. Ranked around middle of the starters for a decade. Middle means finishing 16/17 of 32. Means occasionally making A playoff game. Last of the best. Cream of the crap. No, it really sucks.
From someone who could care less about either of them but friends that are donkeys fans- two friends of mine argued which is better and dug up footage of both throwing. Perna is right, he is more accurate when they both throw the same distances. Just chucking the ball doesn’t count. Most lineman are strong enough for long throws- getting it on target is the difference
I know that it might not seem like it, but I think Tennessee has a little bit of a QB question themselves. They went out and got Mason Rudolf and he is really showing out during training camp. If Will Levis has some bad play in the first few weeks of this upcoming season, don’t be surprised if he gets swapped out.
Yeah considering last year Rudolph helped guide the Steelers into the playoffs. I agree that if Levis struggles then Rudolph will get some playing time at QB1.
You guys are walking into what we had as Raiders for the last decade: Carr 2.0. Middle of the ranking guy that will keep you saying we have a shot… Ok maybe this season… If only we improved these other 3 positions around him… Be honest you got Levis and went- man I wish it was one of the better guys, but he is ok. This season reality might settle in for you, if not next season will. Levis is a good (not great) back up qb. And anyone that doesn’t blow him out isn’t a good enough starting qb to make it all the way
Nix looked GREAT day 3 of camp when I saw him... so did Stidham... but I bought a Nix jersey, so my vote is on the kid... well... they're all kids to me... been watching Broncos since Alzado wore #77... I digress... the rookie one... based solely on he was lined up across PS2 during stretching 🤔
77!!! Now that was a player! I remember him helping us win the Super Bowl. We could both (Broncos & Raiders) use another great like him! Man if we had him and Maxx Crosby!!!
The Steelers will start Wilson unless there is no other option. The pick for the Bears will turn from a 6th to a 4th rounder if Fields plays a certain number of snaps this year. I would like to see him get another chance but I doubt it happens this year unless Russ is battling injuries.
The difference between a 4th and a 6th is definitely impactful, but I doubt it’s enough for a head coach to start a guy at the most important position in sports who he feels isn’t the better overall player. Especially because there’s absolutely no guarantee that Fields won’t end up hitting the snap count anyway due to an injury or just bad form. If Russ starts 1-3 and looks past it, there’s way too much pressure on the organisation not to put Fields in and at least try to save the season. If it’s neck-and-neck then sure, Russ’ lack of contractual baggage means he wins the tiebreaker - but there’s very little more important to a football org than a QB you feel confident in.
Wilson's upside to Pittsburgh is him throwing bombs downfield to Pickens. If he can do that, he'll continue to start and probably have a lot of success in Pittsburgh. If not, he'll be benched for Fields and maybe even request and receive a trade.
Wilson is cake. Carrot cake. That one time in life was good. People get excited when they hear CAKE. But then once you know it’s carrot cake: “AHH MAN!” Like the cake- stick a fork in him- dude is done.
Every time I hear anything about Jared Stidham I want to use every Sycho Sid moniker with him. Sycho Stid, Stid Justice or Stid Vicious. Maybe he can one day earn one.
Ah Stidham. Left you guys and had same results at the Raiders, but behind Carr. Man, if it was baseball where your star pitcher needed someone to fill in part of each game - Stiddy would be the man. He’s like fruit cake at Christmas- ya wanna like it, ya get your hopes up, and for just a minute it seems good. But man, half way through you realize what a mistake it was and the only thing worse than the final effect is knowing you knew better before you started.

I scream WHY THE FALCONS?! But now I hope they trade him to an actual good team when everyone sees how good he actually is. He’s literally the BEST Canadian quarterback prospect we’ve ever had.
We're so close to football!!!!!! I'm so damn ready. Let's go Broncos!!!
Have fun
RRRRAAAAIIIIDDDDEEEERRRRSSSS!!!!
GOD BLESS BO NIX!
When russ was here in seattle he was best in 2 min drills or moon balls. Nothing over the middle and took to many sacks.
Dang perna you dropped this right after I finished eating
As a Bears fan, the Steelers have to know what they have in Justin Fields. He’s a generational talent that Ryan Pace and the coaching staff failed. Ryan Poles and the reworked coaching here in Chicago are trying to do their absolute best to not fail Caleb the way they failed Justin. Say what you want about Justin but in an offense that allows him to be mobile, he has the potential to be top 10 elite
There is competition with Joe Milton though for the New England starting job.
GOD BLESS BO NIX🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥
Minshew coming in with the Theo Von energy. "It's like, my forever van man"
Minshew is completely a modern hippie.
God bless Bo Nix
Probably better to have two good QBs vying for starter than just one QB. Even if that one QB is very good or even great.
From a Raiders fan:
No. Carr was consistently a good QB. Ranked around middle of the starters for a decade. Middle means finishing 16/17 of 32.
Means occasionally making A playoff game.
Last of the best.
Cream of the crap.
No, it really sucks.
Fields throws amazing accurate long bombs.
How is Russell Wilson's arm better?
From someone who could care less about either of them but friends that are donkeys fans- two friends of mine argued which is better and dug up footage of both throwing. Perna is right, he is more accurate when they both throw the same distances.
Just chucking the ball doesn’t count. Most lineman are strong enough for long throws- getting it on target is the difference
Guys at my gym had Kenny challenging Jalen hurts for the starting QB job 🤣
YOU SONABITCH! You got me.... :D
You guys are walking into what we had as Raiders for the last decade:
Carr 2.0.
Middle of the ranking guy that will keep you saying we have a shot…
Ok maybe this season… If only we improved these other 3 positions around him…
Be honest you got Levis and went- man I wish it was one of the better guys, but he is ok.
This season reality might settle in for you, if not next season will.
Levis is a good (not great) back up qb. And anyone that doesn’t blow him out isn’t a good enough starting qb to make it all the way
Persuaded to be sponsored by better help without apologizing for it
My only gripe is that fields has a better arm now. When they were both young I’d give to to Russ but Russ ain’t hitting downfield as he used to
JJ McCarthy is forcing Minnesota to start him like Russel did his rookie year. 🤷♂️ it’s already been announced that a true competition is starting
You didn’t talk about the qb competition in Atlanta
Atlanta still has a team?
Hmm. Interesting.
PLEASE try and make underdog enter the european market. I know all our EU rules are annoying af, BUT WE WANT TO GAMBLE ON UNDERDOG TOO :D
If Fields is genuinely good, the 4th round is worth it. If Fields is bad, Russ plays anyway.
Russ will prolly start but he will not have a long leash
Wilson's upside to Pittsburgh is him throwing bombs downfield to Pickens. If he can do that, he'll continue to start and probably have a lot of success in Pittsburgh. If not, he'll be benched for Fields and maybe even request and receive a trade.
Wilson is cake. Carrot cake. That one time in life was good. People get excited when they hear CAKE. But then once you know it’s carrot cake:
“AHH MAN!”
Like the cake- stick a fork in him- dude is done.
Every time I hear anything about Jared Stidham I want to use every Sycho Sid moniker with him. Sycho Stid, Stid Justice or Stid Vicious. Maybe he can one day earn one.
Nah - Stidham is flash in the pan of inconsistency.
He gets you impressed with one quarter of play then looses it.
I hope the broncos go 4-13, let's go Brandon Parna.
You made it 8 mins. without a s*x joke! Nice improvement!
Penix should have gone to the raiders, would have been a fun spot to watch him play at
I still think Russ is gonna start Week 1, but I agree with your other two picks
12:38 Swap a few names around and you basically have the Patriots fans' opinion on Stidham in 2019 lol.
