Should this match have happened at Wrestlemania? Let us know in the comments below!
@@InsideTheRopes I would say probably not because just because he did the Wrestler, that is still different from actually wrestling especially in front of thousands of people. It may have been good but most likely would have been forgettable if it did happen.
Legend…
Yeah sure.. if done right. "The Cat" maybe should've done that match because he did a "match" in the movie with the Ram. Keeping it short, bill it as The Ram vs The Cat. Done some "mystery promos" of the Ram.. Then bringing Rourke out as "The Ram," Mickey Rourke .. it would've sold the movie in Advertising, but it wouldve caused some Intrigue to wrestling fans. Mickey was into boxing at one point, so this couldve also got Mickey in better shape as well to do the match, and did some training to put on a good show. No need for Mickey to get in a Ring if he was unfit. It could've benefitted WWE as well. The movie backers would've paid WWE a large sum to make the match happen, that's also a benefit to the WWE.
I want a match for Rourke while watching the movie for the 1st time. Such a shame it could really happened but they screwed it up.
😅😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😂😂😂
Can everyone stop and give the other guy credit for not interrupting the way 99% of other hosts would have? He stayed silent
The old adage “less is more”
He was probably a big fan and loved hearing the story as much as we did.
I saw William Shatner at a convention. He was in the middle of a story when one of the workers interrupted him to tell him they were going to do questions.
Shatner was a little rude, telling the fan not to interrupt him.
And Shatner was 100% correct. He was in control of the situation, we were happy to listen to any story he wanted to tell. The man had been doing these kind of talks since before the kids parents were born.
So true! Plus Jericho is so f*ckin great at setting and telling a tale.
Yeah Kenny is awesome
Jericho is a natural story teller. Dude has such an engaging, casual rapport with his audience. He's incredibly pleasant to listen to.

In his prime, some European rich family paid him $1 million dollars to attend their daughter's birthday party 🎉 🎂
Loved his narration in the dark side of the ring series
I love Jericho's stories!

it doesn't seem great, yeah.
J Ram. He's his biggest fan.

Jericho isn’t the internet darling he once was but the guy has been there done that and is an icon in pro wrestling.
Jericho is still on top.
The way Chris does his Vince impression makes it sound Vince ribbed him about being stiff.
That’s what I was kind of thinking too that maybe Vince was ribbing him afterwards.
Nobody tells HBK "he exceeded the time limit"
That's like telling Michael Jordan he played to many minutes

Piper was the most likeable heel in history.
I didn’t even know alot about wrestling but I loved Piper!
For my generation it was 'The Rock.'
Piper was one of my favorites as a kid. Austin was my favorite as a teenager/ adult. I’m glad I got to see them together at Wrestlemania
My favorite along with Hacksaw Jim Duggan!
@10:00 Sad that most people don't know who Sonny Chiba was. Growing up in the 70s and 80s he was fairly well known action star with VHS and TV even in the states.
Seriously one of the only genuine bad ass action stars.
You have to remember this interview was done in the UK. They likely never saw all the American grindhouse and B-Movie Kung-Fu/martial arts films that were so prevelant in the US in the 1970s and 80s. Jericho likely wouldn't have made all those references if he were in the US. He even described who Larry King was to the audience. Also, most people know Chiba now because if Tarantino.
Lol, I was thinking the same thing
Everyone's seen Kill Bill, just remind them he plays the swordmaker Hattori Hanzo.
RIP Sonny Chiba!

Lol I think hbk came off the goat here.
Agreed. He’s never taken an L in any of them.
Do you tell stories where you’re the jackass?
It's been a while since I saw "The Wrestler" but in fairness to Rourke, I don't recall a lot of promo stuff in that movie. So maybe he understood the performance aspect of working in the right, but not on the microphone.
The only promo is at the end when Ram gives his own eulogy before the final match.
Wow you’re right, I’ve never caught that. There really is no major promo scene in it…crazy. The Wrestler is a really good movie that for the most part covered most of the major aspects and the whole vibe of the wrestling world. Now looking back after coming to this realization that’s crazy that they didn’t have something that’s such a huge part of wrestling. I’d say when most people think of wrestling the first thing that pops in their head is wrestlers cutting promos talking shit. I wonder if they just spaced it and forgot or if it originally was in the script but never got filmed? Or perhaps it did get filmed but didn’t make the final edit cut? I’ve never watched it on dvd or blu-ray tho so who knows maybe there is some promo stuff in the deleted scenes or directors cut or something
I was there live for this match. Ricky the Dragon Steamboat was very impressive at that time. He still had it.
Jericho one man show. He could do this forever.
Funny cause Jericho is transforming into him now
He described himself perfectly lol
Perhaps on purpose to set up an angle.
I thought the same thing. Lol
Jericho is still an upper card wrestler on TV every week earning around $4,000,000 a year. The Ram worked in a grocery store deli, lived in a trailer and wrestled once a month in community halls. Jericho is nowhere near that station in life.

@@johnolmos8670 What a vague, cliched statement… Surface level?! 😅 You can’t get much deeper than The Wrestler, story-wise and especially performance-wise! And what do you mean by layered? Some pseudo-intelectual BS? C’mon now…
@@BasketballJones48021 alright here goes.
Iron Claw explores the world of professional wrestling in the eyes of modern mental health studies. It’s breaks down not only the grind of being a professional wrestler but also the brutal reality of generational trauma and impossible expectations.
The Wrestler is a story about a down and out man yearning for his glory years and wanting to capture his physical prime one more time and have one more run while making amends and trying to reclaim his humanity.
One I think is an exploration in a modern gaze of what trauma not just physical but emotional.
The other I think tries to capture it but is just very like I said surface level.
Iron claw has subtle but profound pangs of what someone who has suffered under the guys of being in an emotional family dynamic can present. Each brother represents an aspect of this kind of Trauma.
Kevin= the oldest brother trying to hold his brothers together and act as a shield from his Fathers abuse to the others
Kerry= the star who yearns for his father’s approval and acceptance. Fails to realize an athletic dream and ultimately is forced into a world he didn’t sign up for. Uses Sex, drugs, and rock and roll as an escape from this pain.
Mike= an artist and creative type is forced to participate in wrestling even though he wants to be something else entirely.
David= Wants to be number 1 world champion even uses his fathers move is pretty much his Dads clone.
If you watch the film you can see how much the boys are poisoned not just by wrestling but by generational trauma and old school “suck it up” pull yourself by your bootstraps way of thinking.
The wrestler ultimately is a story about a selfish man who in his mind and in the mind of society is an Olympian god. When the glory the lights and mortality sets in though he is left with his failures as a man and father.
The wrestler does have interesting themes of duality of living his life as a civilian and as Randy the Ram. Ultimately though it’s the story of a selfish man who ends the story in his kingdom where he is loved. The final pose of him looking like an Olympic God making one more leap into his final demise.
Idk to me Iron Claw is more relatable and realistic because I myself have suffered from this type of abuse as many have in my generation of young men that have enjoyed watching pro wrestling as an escape.
I however have never been famous or a pro wrestler. I think this is where it ultimately fails in connecting with the audience. We can only connect with one half of Randy only his civilian side that is a failure. Not his Olympic god side. Idk if you connect with this or if you will view me as biased to one side.
I love both films but I find Iron Claw edges it out is not only a deeper film but an important message
This was in Spokane Wa. I saw this promo live, its wild to see it talked about all these years later.
If that was the reason why Mickey Rourke didn't win the Oscar then I say that was a bullsh*t reason! Mickey was much better & he was more believable than Sean Penn in Milk!
