    Another great topic to cover. As a new owner of an Ioniq 5 (BTW, Loving it!), I've seen this moment of uncertainty. It even got me at first,. The space between handle and door is quite vast. Look forward to this one!

      @@CarsJubilee As usual you break it down far more than what I expected. My one dimentional thinking only focused on the interior handle, not the exterior issues. I haven't seen it yet, but I'll need to keep a ruler in my car to smack anyones hand who uses the interior open handle to close the door, lol.. BTW Your seat review deserves a RUclips award. Ever consider being a professional seat reviewer? Keep up the good work making these great videos. I watch them all.. x5.

      Hahah I just had another person comment that their passenger tried to pinch and pull the armrest material to pull the door shut, we may need to put up signs in our cars.
      Thanks for the encouragement! I'm starting to realize how sensitive my body is to different seating so that could become my 'specialty' one day if I ever reach the point of becoming a car reviewer. Now I just need to get my hands on more cars haha.

    RE: Exterior closing... I was taught by an auto-detailer friend to use an open palm on the edge of the door (on the Ioniq 5... near the piano-black). So I've been using this method on every car ever since.
    This accomplishes two things:
    1. avoids fingerprints on the paint or piano black (which attract dust, and thus scratches)
    2. reduces the force used to close the door, so it's near-impossible to slam
    And yes, EVERYONE gets confused on closing the doors from the inside... I say "pull the armrest" and that usually works, but my auntie tried pinching the material O.O

    • @CarsJubilee
      @CarsJubilee  2 года назад

      While I'm cringing at the thought of the pinching, this is the exact kind of story I was hoping for/expecting haha
      Great points abut the fingerprints and slamming, looks like I'm closing it in roughly the right area then.

    Constant touching of the matte paint will burnish it and there’s no way to get rid of that other than respraying. Think about how devices such as keyboards or game controllers develop shiny spots from constant handling, same concept here. I’d close it from the window trim.

    Are the inside door opening handles also made out of plastic in the US? in Europe they are, and it feels so cheap! the worst feeling on a 50K $ car! My BMW i3 and even my 18 year old Volvo V50 had nice aluminium handles inside

    • @CarsJubilee
      @CarsJubilee  2 года назад

      Ya unfortunately they are plastic, at least they are painted silver to match the rest of the interior. I guess Hyundai has traditionally always done plastic handles. The metal ones in my Volvo xc90 are quite nice though. Curious if they are plastic too with most competitors in this segment.

    I feel like the big design misstep her on the interior is the door open latch or lever. Something you could squeeze on the ambient light side of the door “armrest/pull” would clean up that upper door panel and be intuitive as there would then be no where else to grab. 🤷‍♂️

    • @CarsJubilee
      @CarsJubilee  2 года назад

      Ahh that's really interesting, never even crossed my mind about an electrical release button like in some other cars. That would have taken the interior to a whole new level of futuristic design + complete passenger confusion haha. Personally I don't mind the look of the interior door opener handle but I agree it would have looked really sleek without it.

    I don't own an ioniq 5, but I do know the pain of other people mistreating my car. One friend of mine yanks the door handle until I unlock it, the other slams the door so hard it feels like the sheet metal is going to fly away. Solution, just yell at them. I ran out of options lmao.

    I don't have the pop out door handles. Your plastic pieces behind the windows seem to be glossy. Mine are matt stipple finish and are the perfect place to push any door closed without leaving finger or palm marks.

    • @CarsJubilee
      @CarsJubilee  2 года назад

      Ahhh that's a good point, my glossy part is a bit of a fingerprint magnet. Luckily my actual exterior paint is matte finish otherwise I'd probably have smudges all over my doors. Have you had any confused passengers trying to get in with the non pop out handles since they don't get that extra clue?

    • @dominictoon7768
      @dominictoon7768 2 года назад +1

      @@CarsJubilee Passengers have no clue. Having to push the rear of the handle (with the single small square), quite firmly to unlock, then having to push the other end in to make the rear end of the handle come out, then grabbing the now out rear end and pulling to open the door is almost like a nightmare puzzle. Once you know its OK, but a newcomer has no chance. May work as a burglar deterrent! It was the first thing that the dealer showed us! I have oft wondered if, on the interior, there is a "proper" place to pull? But anywhere seems to work and I really like it.

    • @CarsJubilee
      @CarsJubilee  2 года назад

      Haha so an adventure then for the new passengers it sounds like.
      And ya I've loved that interior pull being the entire arm rest, it just makes so much sense. Perhaps too much sense so that our passengers don't realize it.

    I love my ioniq5 But I absolutely hate those door handles sticking out. There are times when I go to the store and forget to lock the car, when that happens those handles stick out advertising to potential criminals that my car is open, come and get it. The key fob locking system also sucks. If the car is on or in ready mode, I go to the back of the car to connect the charger or get something in the trunk and try to unlock the car with my remote fob, it won't unlock; I have to go back to the driver's door panel to unlock all the doors manually, stupid design and very aggregating!

    • @CarsJubilee
      @CarsJubilee  2 года назад

      Ahh I've run into some not so ideal programming as well. I sometimes approach the car from the passenger side (it unlocks) and then proceed to walk around the back of the car to get to the driver side and by the time I get to my driver door the car has locked itself. I wish they would allow us to customize these lock/unlock settings.
      For your use case of charging, sounds like your car is not set to 'all doors unlock' when in park? I came across that too originally but set to all unlock and it's taken care of that, but still some situations where the programming isn't ideal and I truly wish it had auto lock when walking away.

    • @raypabs5374
      @raypabs5374 2 года назад +1

      @@CarsJubilee yes, I tinkered with the lock settings but there are also many times that I do not want all the doors locked when shifting to park; I work and live inNYC, even the suburbs, I do not let my guard down. All I ask is for the car to not override my key fob. If I press lock or unlock, I want the car to respond, regardless if the car is in park mode.

    • @CarsJubilee
      @CarsJubilee  2 года назад

      Gotcha, that makes sense. I probably shouldn't be using full unlock either but for convenience sake I've been using it. Would love to see them make it customizable in a future update but not holding out hope.
