Thank you for sharing this. My intro students are having difficulties creating graphs to plot their data. The point is to get them to plot and interpret the results, not stump them on graph creation. This helps.
IF YOU HAVE EXCEL 2013 YOU SHOULD USE COMMAS INSTEAD OF DOTS FOR THE GRAPH TO WORK!!! I stressed out when I couldn't create the graph, but it was the dots between the numbers that created the problem.

Hi Dough! I got another problem with scatter charts.I have two groups of data and i want to draw only one trendline for these data but i can't ! Excel shows one trendline for each group so i got two trendlines. By changing the chart type i did not get better result.Do you have any idea?

i can't plot the y values in the right place? when i selected the xvalues they have put the plots in those places, but all along the x axis. i selected the y values the same way as i did the x, however where they ask you to select the cells you want they automatically had ={1} there, which i deleted... even when i kept it it didn't move any points uo from the x axis...

What I mean is, for my geography coursework I have to produce a scatter graph that compares the shopping quality and the pedestrian count in six sectors of a town. How can I identify which points on the graph correspond to each sector so it is clear for anyone studying it? Hope that makes sense. :)
Oh, no when I say long and short axis I mean length and width of the rocks. But I don't think that's what a scattered graph is used for anyways I don't know why my teacher told us to do it.
Try to right click the Y Axis to Format Axis and change the minimum bounds to a negative number. It should be able to pick up the negative Y axis entries.
I already know how to creat the 80% target line. However, I do I creat another vertical line cutting from the 80% interception point down to the x-axis to visually show/seperate from the vital few from the trivial many?

Nevermind I figured out how to do it. And when said recordings, I meant like your recordings on temperature and height.

Try selecting an empty cell outside and not part of your data set. Then insert the scatter chart and input the range of cells for your chart.

When I have negative numbers in the Y axis the X axis number markings stay at the zero Y line. Is there a way to move them to the bottom of the chart?
