  • Topps Finest has made some incredible baseball card sets in the past. But 2024 Finest is the most expensive it has ever been, the checklist is larger than its ever been, and the odds of pulling something good from packs are longer than they've ever been.
    So, instead of spending $325 on 60 likely-mediocre cards of 2024 Finest, Chris and Jeff have some suggestions for better ways to spend that money on Finest singles of players such as Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Albert Pujols and more.
    What is your favorite of the Finest cards we highlighted?

    Listening and watching you both brings back fond memories of me listening to Mike & The Mad Dog when I grew up in NJ/NY. You’re both awesome, funny, witty, and very knowledgeable. I’ve turned my 2 adult kids into fans.
    The Thursday show is priceless please keep em’ coming and think about expanding the format to another day!! Thanks again for keeping collecting fun.

    One other player, in that inaugural year (1993), for refractors is Carlton Fisk. As an active era Fisk collector this card is the white whale that I am pursuing. Actually there are copies out there, I just need to save a bit and go through with the purchase.
    I agree with you that the 2011 Finest set is amazing. For rookies that year, I went really deep. Even players like Alexi Ogando found their way to my rookie box LOL.

    I really like this year's finest look but have no problems waiting a month or two and then pick up the singles I want from this year. Let all the gamblers eat the hype costs. 94 finest also has some great refractors at a little more affordable pricing and I like the look more.

    I'm being smart with Chourio singles by looking at Gunnar comps before buying anything. If in one year Chourio is an all-star in the MVP conversation, that's about as good a comp as it gets for ceiling. So much money saved by rationally showing buying at certain prices is stupid.

  • @mnplumberman
    @mnplumberman Месяц назад +1

    Lots of things I like about the product, but (and it seems like a pattern with Fanatics) Ballooning Price and Checklist makes it a bad buy for most people, myself included.
    They are making buying into breaks of this more viable than buying boxes. You can buy the Yankees, O's, Reds, or Dodgers in a Case Break for less than the price of a box. Granted you aren't guaranteed any hits that way, but seems like a better gamble if you felt the need to Rip this product.
    I do wonder if that is part of Fanatics plan in the long run, Breaks over Boxes.

    • @Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin
      @Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin  Месяц назад

      Yeah that’s an interesting point, as long as the breakers keep selling out, there isn’t much incentive for Fanatics to stop this never ending price bump.

  • @stueystuey1962
    @stueystuey1962 Месяц назад +1

    The production runs, the 300 card checklists are based upon the projection that Fanatics will be able to reproduce the bussiness model of the top 5 breakers in the biz. They will not. The breakers - the very best the hobby has to offer - are twisting themselves into knots coming up with clever ways to sell spots. Its borderline embarassing. Fanatics is absolutely on its way to crashing the hobby. The 2024 Finest design and overall execution is awesome. But it also makes sense that you guys are having the discussion you are having.

      @Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin  Месяц назад

    Out of curiosity why is the Mike Trout regular Topps Rookie card worth more than his Topps Finest rookie card? Aren't Finest cards usually worth more? And finest has to be a low print run I imagine. Thanks.

    • @Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin
      @Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin  Месяц назад

      Typically Topps Flagship RCs are worth more than Finest base RCs historically and especially for Trout, his 2011 Topps is an iconic card in the hobby.

      @@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin Really? I had no idea. It wasn't the case for basketball back in the day I dont think. Figured with many fewer Finest cards than Flagship and the higher price in general for finest boxes the finest would be more expensive. Thanks.

    Topps / Fanatics
    Have to very very careful they are pricing so many people out of the hobby with these box prices. Short term not good but long term a whole generation of people who may stay in hobby for years won't be able to come into it. Kids and adults alike. Big void is on the horizon especially in this economy too. The more people who have access to the hobby the more people you have as customers.

    What's more terrifying, the 30%-50% price increases themselves....or that people aren't questioning/batting an eye at it and selling the product out for fanatics? Seriously, what's more terrifying? I'm going to go with the latter because fanatics will continue to push the limit YoY from here on out.
    One more question..if you were going to rip something. Would you rather chase Gunnar Henderson in 2023 Topps Series 1 for $50 a hobby box (which is what you can buy for now) or Elly De La Cruz in 2024 Topps Series 1 for $150 a hobby box (which is what you can buy for now)? The prices just don't make sense. If you would like to put your tin foil hat on with me, I believe that fanatics is somehow in cahoots with the big 3rd party sellers to keep product extremely high so they have a reason to use that as the baseline for next year's product release price...Ok, the tin foil was squeezing my head a little too tight there, but maybe I'm right. Best real world example is 2023 Topps chrome --> 2024 Topps chrome. $125 preorder price --> $190 preorder price, because secondary market on 2023 spiked to $200 a box for most of it's run.

    • @Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin
      @Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin  Месяц назад

      They both are concerning! Until the breakers blink - since it seems that’s who is buying most of the new product - I think Fanatics keeps pushing the prices higher and higher 🤷🏻‍♂️.
      As to what product I would rather rip at those price points, it would be 2023 all day.
      Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
