    Been using the DBD 16mm for most of 2023, which I LOVE… but did snag a Ruby for the same reasons you mentioned here. I’m most looking forward to the extra spin as I like hard serving and 3rds where topspin dropping over the net or on approaching feet is my goal

    I purchased one a few days ago. Delivery is scheduled 12/12/23. I had been considering the Double Black Diamond but the Ruby won me over. I prefer playing singles and the added, power - plus even better spin - without impacting control too much were major factors in my decision! Finally, I’m hoping Kevlar will be more durable when compared to Carbon fiber. 🙏🏾

    I have a general question, when choosing between a 14mm and 16mm paddle is it as simple as 14 for power 16 for control, or is there more to it? I have been playing with a 16mm but I am curious to see how a 14mm would feel

    • @wulymammoth
      @wulymammoth 7 месяцев назад +2

      No -- typically the 14mm is "poppier" which is the characteristic that describes velocity on deflective shots such as blocks, resets, and other shots without backswings such as flicks and maybe even roll volleys. To my knowledge, 16mm the majority appear to maintain more power due to the extra mass thrown into a ball with more backswing. The Selkirk Vanguard Power Air Invikta comes to mind as a tough to control paddle that seems to maintain its power with a thinner core. But I think your assumption about whether 16mm is typically has more control than a 14mm likely stands true.

    • @BrionesPickleball
      @BrionesPickleball  7 месяцев назад +2

      Generally, yes. Thinner core, the poppier it will feel, less plush, typically less feel.

      @86309 3 месяца назад

      sort of , the texture on the Ruby ,like every other no spray on grit is a Peel ply sheet vacuumed bagged over the resin or "epoxy " which when cured , you peel off the fabric and then you are left with a thin layer of the epoxy /resin that took on the shape of the peel ply fabric. If you wear through this peel ply texture layer then and only then do you get to raw Kevlar (or carbon fiber in CF paddles.)@@erinsmith8702
