Woodford was what got me into bourbon. I love the batch proofs but for the price, I feel I get a similar experience that’s as good, and less money to just boy old forester barrel proof
I passed this year due to the $160 price tag. Plenty of these sitting on shelves around me collecting dust. 🥃
I just can't bring myself to get excited for a product this expensive, part of the thrill of hunting bourbon is finding an amazing bottle at MSRP. The MSRP for this product is already as high as I'd ever pay for a "special" bottle of bourbon, so what's the point of the hunt?
But would you pay $140 for Disco 11?
@@thecougarexperience I stopped buying Disco's quite awhile ago. They were up to $150ish in my area at some point. Saw a Disco 10 two days ago for $130. Pretty sure most people are passing on these now, at least around here as the pricing is going down at retail over the last 2-3 releases. Also, I STILL see gobs of Disco 7's everywhere LOL.
@@red5standingby419 I'll spend $150 for a Stagg all day long eventhough I usually get them for $50. I'm with you. I can't bring myself to spend more than $100 on almost any bottle.
@@thecougarexperience Agreed! Love me a good Stagg. I'd pay $150 for it. Unfortunately all the museum owners masquerading as liquor store owners around here have the one or two bottles of Stagg behind the counter at $300. So I compliment them on their nice museum display and leave.
Not to mention, finding this bottle isn't exactly a hunt. I've seen these too many times to count while looking for other stuff.

I got one at Costco in LA for $108
Saw one of these locally for $150 and just chuckled and passed.
I like it a lot, but yes - It’s very overpriced for a 700 ml bottle of who knows what (zero transparency).
I too look for any reason to drink Coy Hill.
125.8 proof (2018) was the first release. 123.6 (2020) was the last release before the new bottle shape

@@TEbourbon I've only been able to have the 123.6 and really enjoyed it. I'm a bit of a woodford fan though.
Woodford regular and double oaked are MOSTLY Old Forester. When there last week, I counted 3 Brown Forman barrels in the bottling area for each Woodford Barrel. The batch proof is barrel strength mix of the barrels only distilled and aged at Woodford, so different. These are NOT as good as GT Stagg, but do have a spicy and dense and fairly nice flavor profile. However, without an age guarantee, and offered in my area at $170, this would be a hard no for me if my wife did not really like the flavor. It is really just barrel strength of the pot stilled bourbon from Woodford at the same age profile - 6-8 years. It tastes different from plain WR because it is ONLY the pot stilled spirits. I did pick up their regular WR Spring Expression pick at the distillery, a 2 barrel blend that only produced 180 bottles.
In my opinion the 121.2 is phenomenal. I have bought 3 bottles of this. I will continue to buy them when I see them within reason. I saw one bottle go for $250. I did not buy that one.

Had this one at Woodford last week. I really liked it.
I just tried the 2023 one last night and thought it was pretty good. It was the first batch proof I’ve ever tried.
I started bourbon drinking with Woodford Reserve and I will always have a bottle, but I don’t drink it much anymore. I have tried different master’s collections and not been impressed. I found last year’s release for $135, but will need to have a pour before I will buy any of these bottles.
The 118 proof is still my favorite I’ve tried of the batch proof

I bought a 128pf batch recently. It’s pretty hot and not that compelling for $150. Nice to have but I don’t really see myself ever going for another
I got last years after trying it at a bar. I loved it. It is pretty expensive but after I had the 2023 and saw it in the wild I had to purchase it. Definitely pricey though

They did several in the old bottle. 123.2 was before 123.6. I believe there was at least one more before that.
They did a 125.8 that’s some compared to a GTS! I loved it lol
I know the price is hard to swallow for some people, but this is a damn good pour. Is it overpriced? Yes. Is it delicious? Yes.

I love the latest Woodford batch for this Woodford expression but it’s even more expensive in Canada if it can even be found. $150 before taxes is ridiculous so as much as I enjoy this expression, in its latest batch, I won’t pay $175 Canadian. Great video!
Got 1 108$ costco they only had 12 sat on. Shelf for 2 weeks before selling out.
This year’s batch proof seems to be more widely available than any previous year - at least in the northern New England area. I like this one a lot More than last year’s, but not as much as 2022’s 118-proof version.
I picked this up at total wine for 127.74. So there are a few places a little cheaper!

I bought one for $150 to grease the wheel for some other stuff, but most stores around here sell them for as high as $230. It’s ridiculous

I think the last 2 batches of batch proof from Woodford have been phenomenal. I definitely do not regret buying them. Very good bourbons. Just my 2 cents worth

Every state is different unfortunately. MI has it's own price book called LARA you can check for minimum pricing in the state.
I really enjoy these and get some great iced blueberry scone notes. But...$150 is starting to push it for this. I'll 100% grab one when they hit PA still.

These have been sitting on shelf at TW in my area... gonna guess they suddenly sell out this afternoon. Even though they are going up in price and you guys didn't love this release any attention is enough to get people out and asking about them. Was waiting to buy one until after the tax man gets his 10k pound of flesh. Still plan to buy this bottle because I really enjoy these releases. I like them more than OF 1924 by a large margin and the price/proof ratio is pretty much the same.
While the old bottle was more unique I prefer the current bottle. They also just look so good on shelf with their siblings compared to OF 1924

I like the new one, but it took forever to really open up! When it did, it became amazing.
I have that bottle and I like it but man it's too pricey. I'd pay up to $100 because I think it's as good as Bookers. But a better price point would be $70.
I haven't preferred the flavor of any expression of the batch proof yet. I just not a Woodford guy. I wanted these to be good.
What's the difference in Barrel Proof, Batch Proof and Barrel Strength?
You forgot Cask Strength and Full Proof - all the same meaning for marketing.

Man they are pricey and passed on all since the 2022 release. So many Staggs and store barrel picks in ny area that i passes. 160 buys me two to three other great bottles.

It's hard to argue which is worse, a $60 batch proof you'll never find selling online for $300+ or a batch proof on the shelf for MSRP of $135... I guess I prefer getting to drink it for less money and $135 is less than $300. The WRBP is very good, I've had JDBP and WRBP is waaaay better, but you could have two JD's. Mostly though... I'll just buy JD Bonded as it's 75% as good at $35 and always available.

If it makes you feel better the helix ad is 2 minutes and the video is 11 so it's under 20% in reality (I could be wrong i'm bad at math) and the best part is you can just fast forward through it by tapping on the right side of the video a few times if you don't want to watch it to get back to your regularly scheduled free content. Jim beam and heaven hill release multiple high proof bourbons a year for cheaper, and they have age statements. Why should woodford be limited and more expensive?

I think people are just kind of burnt out on buying $100+ dollar bottles of whiskey that aren’t considered “Unicorns”. Not that the whiskey is bad just think finances and willingness has changed. Not trying to speak badly of any brand doing so.

Same reason people are still buying watches, shoes, cigars, and any other luxury market on the planet truthfully. Hell people are still buying houses around market highs.
