    Thanks - you cleared up one or two points I found difficult to decipher from the instruction book. One tip I can offer for saving the mats is to apply contact paper sticky side UP onto the fabric mat. Gives you a perfect tacky surface which can be removed when it gets too cut up. For dirt or fuzz, simply rub with wet wipe and leave to dry - the tackiness returns. If your mat has been cut through then apply a sheet of contact on the back (sticky side down) to repair the mat. Happy cutting

      Hi. Do you mean you stick your contact paper to your mat and that surface then is used to cut up? How do you glue your contact paper to it then? Sorry, I hard it find to understand. Sounds like a good idea but I also wonder isn't the contact paper a little bit too tacky? Please insight for this little mind!

    is there a way to tell it which cut to make first. example you have a square with a hole in the center , I need to cut the hole first so it does not move and than cut the square around it. Is that possible ??

    VERY GOOD , iv gone to deep on my low tack mat is there any way i can cover it ,and do you need a different mat for scanning in to machine, and what can you cleen mat with if used dark card , Help

    • @applelover53
      @applelover53  9 лет назад

      Joan Foster yes just put parcel tape on the back of it where you have cut it, if you have cut clean though put the patch back in place and again tape over it, i show my mat in the "maintenance" video you can see mine all patches up too.

    • @joanfoster4216
      @joanfoster4216 9 лет назад

      no just scored into it

    • @applelover53
      @applelover53  9 лет назад

      you will get score lines from cutting, thats normal, but if you cut through it just tape it up on the back

    hi, is there anyway of creating foldable greeting cards with this machine, for instance a photo on the front and a greeting on the inside right of the card, will it scan a real photograph, thanks, mark.

    • @applelover53
      @applelover53  6 лет назад

      You can use a basic shape to make a base card and apply a dashed fold line, both directly on the machine or in the Canvas software. You have 3 scan options - direct cut, scan to cut data and scan to usb. This machine is a scanner in its own right so will scan photos to a usb. Have a look in the "beginners" playlist on my channel it may help. thanks

    A very helpful video for people just starting out. Do you know if there's any setting change so it will draw without adding a seam allowance. I want to be able to recreate my original line drawing but it always re-draws it with a double line? Thanks - Lynn

    • @applelover53
      @applelover53  10 лет назад

      I am not entirely sure what you mean, how thick is the pen you draw with, is it picking up both sides of the line?
      When you scan, use the scan to cut data and choose the last option i think that follows directly down the middle of any line. but if i have misunderstood let me know more info

    • @Scrapitydoodah
      @Scrapitydoodah 10 лет назад

      Sorry I didn't explain it very well. I've made an original black pen drawing of a paper doll (like a stamped image) and scanned it in using the scan to cut button but then I don't want to cut it out just redraw it onto other sheets of paper using the draw function and the sNc pens. Everything goes well up to the point of drawing but then it also draws in the 3mm seam allowance and I want to not have that but there doesn't appear to be anyway to have a zero seam allowance and for it to just draw the original lines only. (I am just experimenting really to see if I can get maximum use from the machine). It's probably not possible but I just wondered if you might know as you seem very knowledgeable about it all. Thanks for trying to help anyway. I appreciate it. X

    • @applelover53
      @applelover53  10 лет назад

      Scrapitydoodah Ok i think i understand now, I've just had to go and draw and scan something to double check, but on mine it drew it exactly the same size as my hand drawn design. Could it be that somehow you have saved it with a seem allowance and thats why its doing it. when you have your saved shape on screen click the icon thats above the ok button its a square and two arrows, is the seam allowance button purple or grey

    thank you so much. but i need help. if i scan items for example a bag picture. is there any way i can cut out the handles and leave the pattern on the bag without cutting? thank you. guessing i need to scan and cut twice once to cut bag them move the screen and cut again. but if there is an easier way please help thank you kindly. ps nice to see some uk videos. most the ones i find are americans.

      If you choose the icon which is 3 red boxes you have the option to isolate Orr of a design and cut at part only I have shown it in one of my videos in the SNC machine playlist but cannot remember which one

    • @applelover53
      @applelover53  8 лет назад +1

      +applelover53 that should say isolate part of the design!

    Please can you help? Am trying to scan to cut data, a template for DM's Grotto Cards. drawing on acetate, or card stock gives me a double cut line, where it has picked up both sides of the drawn line.
    I have used a thin permanent pen, and also a very narrow biro. Scan is set to default.
    I cant use an svg/fcm version of the file as I am unable to position the fcm exactly over the scanned image.
    I used acetate as shown by Mel Heaton, but that gives me the inside and the outside of the lines drawn. Then I embossed the design onto some plain white card, and drew over the emboss with a very narrow biro, but again have got a double cut line, where it reads the both sides of the line.
    Yes for most it would be easier to use a knife, but I have bendy fingers, as in bend backwards under pressure, so want to avoid knife work if possible.
    HOW do I get this to read the line as a line, and not as a very narrow shape to be cut around?

    • @applelover53
      @applelover53  9 лет назад

      i am not near my machine at the moment, but if using scan to cut data are you choosing the first of the three options, once the design has scanned? if that is giving you the double line try using the Direct scan option that will only cut an outline.

    • @l00pyscraftcreations
      @l00pyscraftcreations 9 лет назад

      applelover53
      Thanks hun, but its cutting AROUND the lines, as in cutting the 2 sides of the drawn line. I just want it to cut a line, and thats on direct cut. Because its a series of unconnected lines, its reading each line, as a separate shape to be cut AROUND, not just cut. Unfortunately it is doing what it is supposed to in this instance, its reading each line as a distinct shape and cutting around it. What I want it to do is cut the line, as a line, not to cut the shape of the outside edges of the ink. As you are UK then I am assuming you have heard of Debbi Moore, she does grotto Cards, of which I have loads pre-printed. I have traced the cut lines from the inside of the design onto white card, and can overlay that onto the designs, so I can scan it in in just the right place for an accurate cut. I have an fcm version of the same thing, but the issue is then getting the lines to overlay EXACTLY the lines on the image. Thinking that this is going to be an impossibility for Brother, as the scanning software is working perfectly.
      if you get any ideas on how to accomplish it, I would appreciate knowing, but as the software IS working perfectly, I suspect that any and all alternative solutions are going to be very hard to find, so dont get too stressed about it, xxx

      AHA!!!!
      Found it! its using the 3rd option in the scan to Cut data, the manual refers to it as line detection!! So now you CAN scan in lines for things like pop-ups or DM's grottos, but use scan to cut data, then choose the 3rd box, single circle and single square overlapped, and it reads it as lines WOOHOO!, Knifes put away!
