My take on it was that all endings were canon, and that they just play out into each other (so it's more like you're unlocking pieces of the bigger picture, rather than each ending being a different scenario). The ending where she discovers her "body" might be indicating that she is having an out of body experience. Some people say out of body experiences are very dreamlike, which might explain her disorientation at the beginning of the game and her amnesia. We can get a little spiritual and assume that her being so close to Nat's death and maybe also her state of mind when she fell asleep allowed her to enter this state. I think she was so troubled by witnessing his sudden death, that she subconsciously wanted to help him, and that triggered her out of body experience, so that she could help Nat's soul realize he was dead and move on.
Yeah i think you’re right. I just checked what the game would be like in Thai (since i am thai) and though it wasnt any different, it seems like she realised her soul is out of her body and is in another realm.
There are claims in my hometown (China) say that distress could lead to out-of-body experience so I guess it's a combination of witnessing the death of Nat and breaking up with her bf.
It felt like it was leading up to something with the puppet story, the mannequins, the way the chars /acted/ like puppets imo but then it forgot about all that for that lackluster ending??
I was positive that all the hangman imagery would lead to something too! Guess what? Nope. If there were just a few more people working on the story, I bet it could have been so much better!
In a lot of East Asian cultures, it's commonly believed that heavy shock and heartbreak can lead to someone's death. What it sounds like to me is that she became a ghost trying to find solace so she can pass on from her shock and heartache, and ends up being helped by a fellow soul navigating their own way to their right way.
game looked really great, but the story didn't match the level of scene design. it's kind of disappointing there wasn't an "explanation" for the masked boy. at least the connection for Nat and the girl showing up makes sense...
Indeed. But if you get the hand-on-forehead John, the grinning-gritting-teeth John, or the staring-at-the-camera-with-slight-contempt John, you're in for some shit
Nate's sister died because she said wake me up when you come back. Remember though Nat said you cant breath in there with the doors closed? Well Nat died unable to come back and wake her up. They were both basically in the same afterlife, he wanted to know what happened and she was still waiting for him after death (from suffocation)
I wonder if there is some cultural context that makes the games otherworld themes make more sense, and not just 'random choices of creepy images'. Given that the translation tries, but doesn't quite get there, it totally seems reasonable to assume that perhaps there are themes which just don't get translated well. WIth out knowing that, I am inclined to be more charitable towards this game. Like striped of all SIlent Hill reference the game is about a young girl who goes through a near-death experience. Ending 1-we see what brings her too the point of choice. Ending 2-she gives in to despair and dies, Ending 3-she wakes up in time to save herself and we are treated to a happy ending. The context again could read "She is dying and goes through a purgatory scenario in which she comes into contact with the ghost of someone she just saw pass not that long ago. Whoses story reminds her of how fragile life can be and how there are always people left behind who will always be waiting for those who can not make it back. In that case the whole 'you gotta collect stuff to survive' angle could be a measure of 'the work NanPung puts in to over-come her attempted sucided/redeem herself.' If you take all of that, and add in "The elements used are elements culturally easily understood by a Thai audience but not so much a non-Thai audience, I could see the game's ending being received a whole lot better either A-with a better translation/some context for us clueless non-Thai or B-in its nature language. Or I could just be trying to make what is otherwise a very good art-style, puzzle design and IMO setup be better then the ending it has.
Maybe the true-ending was Nampung being brought back to life? She's alive again? Because in other ending, she was looking at herself in the car, so... I guess she was dead?
yeah, let's just put a story about a puppet, place random picture, give horror vibe with a man hanging himself, and finally put some endings about afterlife. That would be a perfect game!
Watched Kravin's video of this before and I do like the style and atmosphere. Isolation and desolation can be far more unnerving than monsters and cheap jumpscare attempts.
mr guderian what makes this setting more unnerving is the mannequins. It's no longerjust a mystery of where evryone went, but now it's also a mystery of why the mannequins are everywhere. It reaches for almost uncanny valley levels of unnervingness which is great imo
Thats true. But having a few fuckers around chasing you trough this isolated place would be nice. It keeps you on your toes. Wich makes isolation even worse and nerve wrecking
The 4 things as a toll indicates a rusted metal pipe, a broken zipper, expired tablets and a melted figure - all things no longer in use. Does the melted Nampung figure means she is no longer alive and useful anymore (as seems to be indicated in one of the endings)?
I really like the art style of this game, seems more polished than Neverending Nightmare. I don't know why, but it's also giving me some Junji Ito vibes, though that's a pretty lazy comparison to make I'll admit.
This game could have had so much potential! I thought that the guy trying to kill you might've had to do something with the ending, since it's the only one that's after you but it had nothing to do with it. They could've done so many creepy things like the mannequins coming after you like the one where you removed the zipper. HOW CREEPY would it be if you would walk away and it would come running after you with the head like that!
I guess you can say her guy stabbed her by deciding to go with someone else since they havent been together, but even then that might be something like them doing a long distance relationship and it wasnt enough for him. Anyways yeah, they could have actually had a boy and girl enemy if that was the case but I guess the laughing girl wasn't made much more than an audio effect, as she could have been a blank mannequin as Nampung didn't know the lady.
I love your sarcastic attitude. You always give me a chuckle, even on the worst days. Things are becoming more stable financially and I'll be resubscribing to you on patreon. Thank you for many years of entertainment. 🙂
She was never dead. The first ending would still be some kind of lucid dream, those were you can snap out of your body. Could have been led by the traumatic situation she was in... Just a thought though
I love these long videos from you! They always make my day when I come home from school, thank you so much! Much love and happiness towards you and your videos John!
About the *4 things for a Toll* ... you needed 4 broken things for a Toll (with a matching example : Broken Robot Toy) , a corroded Pipe , expired Aspiring , Broken Zipper and one other item that had to be broken ... then only thing you had was the figure , so you had to melt it to progress ... simple
It seems like the devs just didn't go all the way with an idea. They just stopped at the mid point if that and just were like this is good enough. The puzzle were sometimes well done, but other times required pixel hunting and some real weird ways of thinking. I fill like the ending sort of really lack luster as well, if they continued on with the sucide thing then ending 3 might of been worth getting. The game just seems like it needs work if they make a similar game and work on this things then it might be amazing.
This is one of the things I always found a little bothering about these sorts of games with puzzles in them: Your character just stumbles across some random items and picks them up as if they know exactly what they will need later. Like how the hell did they know to pick up that specific thing all of a sudden? It'd make more sense if the puzzle was introduced first and then they went to look for items. But at the same time, it could make the gameplay annoying since you'd be forced into backtracking the area you had gone through while re-examining everything again. So you know what, having this logic problem for the sake of making gameplay more enjoyable is fine.
I really love the aesthetic/style of this game! It definitely reminds me a bit of Neverending Nightmares. It’s a shame that this turned out to be pretty lackluster but at least the nice art is a good thing to take away from it lol
I really liked this one. I found the isolation and quiet moments much more unnerving than chases and jumpscares. I might have to get it if its still available. Anyway, it's interesting to see how different the interpretation and emotion is from my perspective and John's. I found it good all the way through, and the endings together were good in my opinion. Nice to see something different.
I was looking down, doodling while periodically looking up at the screen. Then I see this black mass go across my screen, and I was wondering "Is John okay?" So I look up and I see the 'mysterious black mass' moving... It was my damn cat, scared the shit out of me.
I think I've watched too many John wolfe's videos to the point I can tell whether the game is good or not based on John's facial expression on thumbnail
There's an old indie horror game that Markiplier never finished. I remember it being a mixture of kind of scary and pretty stupidly bad/translated. It's called The Room (not the movie lol) if you're interested in maybe checking it out.
Hey John, just wanted to explain the puzzle at the Sky Train. You see the sign that says 4 things and there is a toy robot that's broken. The items that you had to pay as toll needed to be worn out / broken / expired / not useable anyway. Thus you had to burn the Pung doll to make it like the other things you put down (rusty pipe, expired pills and a broken zipper). Good job playing through the game! Keep it up!
Love the style and silent hill quality. Really enjoyed it despite the odd endings. I love the fixed camera angles and the eerie horror. Very creepy. I want more games like this. Thanks for being a completionist.
When you've watched so many let's plays, you tend to catch on to things faster than normal, so when I see you take more time than you need to, to solve an easy puzzle I get frustrated, but then I remember watching you play all the horror games DashieXP played and how you made them look like the most bland games ever. Keep up the good work John.
It's a beautiful art style! I could forgive the slowness on that alone - but those endings. So it's purgatory? And finding some damn brooches are the key to her not taking her own life over some stupid ex?!.. What in the actual... I don't find the topic of suicide (or mental illness for that matter) acceptable in most games, and this is definitely one of them. Oi. It's not bad, it's disappointing. Tyfs John! Hope you have a great weekend. Best of wishes to you and yours.
This reminded me of those point and click games called Coma, the full game came out last year and it think you would enjoy them! And about this game, i think it gives off that silent hill vibe and I like the art style, it´s just a bit sad that they put on all this effort but didnt get a proper translation.
For a moment I was confused as to why this was uploaded yesterday because I coulda swore I watched you play it forever ago but I had watched Kravin play it lol
@1:03:54 *Am I the only one who laughed?* 😐 That awkward stare she gives and the camera zoom and then the title. The sequence had me laughing for some reason. 💦
"Catching up on allot stuff that I have missed." Oh, boy my finger's are crossed that one of the games John plans to catch up on is my FROSTBITE: Deadly Climate game.
Watching your video helped me figure out finally what my problem was with this game: build up. This game has a solid foundation for its story in general, not especially original but certainly not dead on arrival either, but it never really builds on that foundation. The endings, as a result, seem like they're supposed to be meaningful, but because the middle of the story is underdeveloped it just comes off as 'meh' and abrupt. The puzzles were okay, but didn't seem interconnected and while I can sit here and manufacture symbolism for how they might tie into the lives of any of the characters within, I'm not going to because that's not how storytelling works. The game seems to want to tell a story but without really knowing how to do it leaving any side characters' arcs looking woefully like they were tacked on and not relevant to the story as a whole, more as a tool to explain some other element of the story. I feel like it should've been a longer game with more emphasis on the narrative than is seen currently, though I applaud the devs efforts in trying to make a good game. I definitely got the impression that a lot of effort was put into this game, though I recommend that they take any future work they come up with and shred it to pieces in the reviewing process before releasing another product; I really gt the impression that this game was a first draft that was reviewed maybe once or twice and never rewritten (much as it pains me to write that).
"And aWaay we go" ... Did anyone else think of Hawkeye from MASH when he said this? Lol. I know it is a common phrase and probably a reference to something else, but that's what came to mind.
If it means anything John, we DO enjoy seeing you get the extra endings, even when it's just "It's still night". That said, there's no obligation, it's all good if you don't.
Nice description John, that cracked me up.
I found it especially hilarious, since I actually read it first to see what the game was about.
Bane
John's descriptions are on point. His sass is ever growing.

Danielle Browne Horror games try to bad end you so hard that I can't even recall one with a good ending off the top of my head.
THU HURRURRRR!
so they made the endings so bad that you feel as depressed as the main character.
Hahaha
Danielle Browne Does anyone know the song that's playing?

My take on it was that all endings were canon, and that they just play out into each other (so it's more like you're unlocking pieces of the bigger picture, rather than each ending being a different scenario). That's exactly what I thought. And the "True" ending is her just waking up, learning that it was a dream and that she isn't actually dead.
Ur comment has enlightened me
nice!
I actually thought so too...at least something like that.
Yeah i think you’re right. I just checked what the game would be like in Thai (since i am thai) and though it wasnt any different, it seems like she realised her soul is out of her body and is in another realm.

All the mannequins in the town remind me of the Will Smith movie "I am Legend".

Lmfao!😆😓 Sorry Nat, you’re not alone☹️😆
So pong showed him "her" big key...interesting.
I actually laughed hysterically at the last ending. “It’s still night.” ::quit cut to black no sense to be made:: Hysterical.
The four items for the toll all needed to be broken so that’s why the figure had to be melted
game looked really great, but the story didn't match the level of scene design. it's kind of disappointing there wasn't an "explanation" for the masked boy. at least the connection for Nat and the girl showing up makes sense...

The description for this video is awesome.

Nate's sister died because she said wake me up when you come back. Remember though Nat said you cant breath in there with the doors closed? Well Nat died unable to come back and wake her up. She looked like she was burned tho.
So, Nate is a he?
John is like the Gordon Ramsay of video games
"These camera angles...These are nice"
The only amazing aspect about this game is the art style, lmao.

But there wasn't a feeling of isolation. Felt more like you just running around a small town at night solving random puzzles.

I kinda feel bad for Bananaboy for getting randomly roasted, lol
The 4 things as a toll indicates a rusted metal pipe, a broken zipper, expired tablets and a melted figure - all things no longer in use. Does the melted Nampung figure means she is no longer alive and useful anymore (as seems to be indicated in one of the endings)?
"Nampung" means honey (literally "bee water") and is the lady's nickname.
Those endings made the ending to The Room seem like a very dramatic, touching masterpiece.
I really like the art style of this game, seems more polished than Neverending Nightmare.
I don't know why, but it's also giving me some Junji Ito vibes, though that's a pretty lazy comparison to make I'll admit.
From the thumbnail I thought it was another game from Matt Gilgenbach.
Let's have a throw back to when John was actually scared of horror games
Senpai Oreo I would like to see that. Which series in particular?
Throwback to when horror games were actually full of horror.
just something new theirs a game called gtfo that's seems pretty cool but its a fps horror coop
even better

Those camera angles in the narrow alleyways remind me a lot the first Silent Hill, it's a really cool resource
It seems like the devs just didn't go all the way with an idea. They just stopped at the mid point if that and just were like this is good enough. the game was pretty okay except for the endings :(

song at end credits was super good...art style was eonderfuk as well.
I'm proud of you John.

Thank you for all these longer videos! I love them!
I’m glad we resolved it too, John...I wouldn’t want it to affect our friendship. =)
I really liked this one. I found the isolation and quiet moments much more unnerving than chases and jumpscares. I might have to get it if its still available. This is why I always read the complete description in your vids. I too, am glad we hashed it out, and it is resolved
Thank you for existing
Poor John I laughed so hard and the end. Thank you for going back for the last ending. Sorry it wasn’t worth it.
John sure loves his OH face for video thumbnails
I'm loving the longer videos. Thank you John!
wow your editing skills are amazing, I couldn't tell you tried things multiple times unless you said so, couldn't see any cuts in the video.

Hey John, just wanted to explain the puzzle at the Sky Train. You see the sign that says 4 things and there is a toy robot that's broken. I really liked the art style. The game itself wasn't all that great, but it wasn't horrible either. Just kinda meh.

John's scream at 28:26 completely made up for that missed jumpscare opportunity before XD

"What! There's a pile of mannequin corpses!"
Who could have murdered all those mannequins?
John, I want to be your friend.
Whoa I wasn't expecting to be personally attacked by the description box😂😂😂😂
Mannequin corpses
"And aWaay we go" ... Did anyone else think of Hawkeye from MASH when he said this? Lol. I know it is a common phrase and probably a reference to something else, but that's what came to mind.
This game is Silent Hill with Resident Evil camera angles
John: I don’t think so, I don’t think so
Nampung: destroys all of John hope
Me: I THINK SO, I SO VERY THINK SO
SORRY IM LOOPY
If it means anything John, we DO enjoy seeing you get the extra endings, even when it's just "It's still night". That said, there's no obligation, it's all good if you don't.
The description lol. Nice video John!
That's 1 hour and 10 minutes of my life I won't be getting back. Thanks John for exposing me to this game.
