Author here! I want to start out by saying thank you for your critiques and the compliments regarding this piece. To answer your question about when the story is set, it’s a blend between medieval and industrial. It takes place in a tower city, where the royal families and those with some semblance of wealth or status live. There’s the typical political intrigue one would find in any modern dark-fantasy with a splash of the class divide that we saw in the industrial age. We watch two lovers navigate this world in a “Romeo & Juliet” type story arc.
Thank you for the critiques I wish I could have submitted a larger sample. I would say this is more akin to an abridged version than the original. This is a prologue. Thwayne is a lot younger here than he is in the rest of the story. That’s where I describe him in greater detail. I feel like pausing to describe his looks during the opening would have slowed down the pacing a tad too much.
I wish I could have submitted more to round out the piece. I’m always eager to share more of my stories.

Hi! Thanks joining the conversation and we're so happy you appreciate the critique. So Molly and Theresa were both right! The combination of industrial and medieval sounds like a lot of fun! Thanks for submitting!
