I don’t understand why on earth people go to Vietnam for vacation. It’s dirty and expensive . Not to mention the food you is salty and full of toxic chemicals to enhance the taste. Don’t you already see how unsanitary they handle the food? The water they use for Pho is filled with lead and cadmium, let alone the MSG. The people will lie and cheat you for a dollar. I’m Vietnamese and my first visit to Vietnam is also my last.
Giap Vo - Although I don't agree with the negative tone of your response (there are more tactful ways to put what you said), I do think that some parts of Vietnam do treat Americanized Vietnamese different and they do charge you more. I definitely experienced this when I visited as an adult for the first time 3 years ago. The airport experience left a sour taste in my mouth as the employees did try to swindle money out of you. However, knowing this I still believe Vietnam is a beautiful country and like other places has its bad parts as well. You just have to be smart about it and understand everything can be negotiated if you feel like you're being cheated. I hope you do visit again one day and have a better experience. I hope to do the same as it is an experience you can't get anywhere else in the world. Thank you Helen for continuing to put out these videos. I did not grow up in Vietnam, but you are all things beautiful and wonderful about the country.
For me, it is that certain rawness of youtuber productions that I go for. Otherwise I would just watch TV. About you being not fluent in English, well that is the beauty of watching individual international youtubers isn't it? Keep up the good work Helen! God bless and best wishes for your channel! Hi Helen! I really enjoy all your recipes, especially the typical Vietnamese dishes. Your direction and ingredients are very straightforward and easy to find, and in English, making it so much easier for someone like me who is Vietnamese-American to try it out. I know there are lots of pressure on RUclips in terms of what's trending in food and vlogs, but I think you should stick to what you do best, which is creating recipes. When I see ur food vlogs, as a viewer, I do sense that you're not comfortable, which makes me feel like the video is not engaging, so instead of watching ur vlogs, I tend to just wait to see your next recipe video to watch. For your recipe ideas, I was thinking it would be awesome if you can have series of videos where you show us how to cook a family meal under certain time limit, or budget, ... So people like me can learn and try to create Vietnamese family meals more frequently. Wish you all the best!

Helen, my very first RUclips search was for a "Banh Mi" and your channel came up....long time ago and I have followed you since. I adore you, you are always such a sweet soul.
It feels like I am sitting with your ladies, listening to the conversation but I'm not able to eat the food. LOL! And yes, Helen...you are SO TALL! Made me think of our green screen edit years ago :P
I've probably mentioned this before, but aside from cooking I always learn something from Helen's channel. A few words, something about the dish in general, something about life in general as in this case. I like that part, she doesn't talk too fast, and sometimes puts the new word on the screen for a few seconds. This is the best! Sometimes I have a chance to buy Vietnamese snacks or pastries, and now I have a much better idea of what's inside that banana leaf (say). The discussion about breakfast could use more detail some day, it's shocking to an American, since we have a completely separate kind of food for breakfast, separate breakfast menu. The first time I ever ate in a Vietnamese restaurant in the morning, there was a lot of confusion! Now we have Helen to help us with things like this.
That's Seonkyoung and Be Nguyen, the ones who was featured in the Bun Bo Hue tutorial. lol. I cooked bun bo Hue last Friday following their recipe. And now I'm here to see them with Helen. Such a pure random series of events!
I hope not...Pailin comes across as too put-on that it's really off-putting to me. She's what I mentioned to Helen about projecting this perfect image. We want to see the human individual shine, not some fake persona.
I agree Tina, if that is how Pailin likes to do her videos, that is her right and I actually love the format, find it very informative and very well presented. Also she is from the "Land of Smiles" and culturally this is very much similar to most Thai's, i don't find it fake, it's just culturally keeping face.
I never said she was a bitch or terrible person as I don't know her personally - and neither do you. I think the tide has turned where people want to see real people with real personalities...flaws and all.

In other words, that's not them, that's a persona they're projecting to the world. I'm sure many youtubers do it in varying levels, but when it's done 100% of the time, you wonder who this person really is.
Doodah Gurl I don’t think she is faking things. I appreciate her being very throughout informative. It’s hard to find someone who share all they got. And maybe being a perfectionist is just her personality. There’re a lot of personality she portrays in her show. I guess not everyone can see the same thing. We choose to see things differently. And this is just my thought.
