Awesome video. Just got back from my first backpacking trip. I bought new equipment. Mystery Ranch Sphinx 60, Big Agnes 25 inch Q Core, Grayl water purifier, Platypus bladder, Tiny Pump n Kelty Cosmic 20. All worked great. I was carrying close to 40lbs of weight. Had to adjust the bag several times but once I got it the weight felt as if it was part of my body. Awesome product. Definitely going to get another mystery ranch bag
I love my Frankenstein water setup which is something between the two of you. Katadyn befree, with a gravity connector, and onto a 2L hydrapak. Then I put an Osprey quick connect onto my water bladder hose. Let's me feed water out of the befree into the bladder whenever I need.
I'd expect the Mystery Ranch backpack to be super comfortable. My Dana Design Alpine pack was super comfortable, and I'd still be using it if it hadn't been destroyed.
After I had an air mattress completely fail on one trip I started bringing two 55 gal drum liners with me. I can then fill them with leaves, pine duff or pine boughs etc and have a browse bed.
That is a great tip. Lighter than a closed cell foam back-up or a back-up inflatable and the weight is so low I wouldn’t mind packing it every time. Thanks!
@@tridoc99 yep two suggestions. Try to get 6 mil liners, not thinner than 3. You will invariably get some sticks in there and you don't want them poking through. Also remember you will compress the material so for comfort/insulation you want about 4" of compressed thickness which means you want to have them at least 8" thick before you lay down on them, depending on your weight of course. I find 8-10" works well for one night. I experimented with it overlanding once and found that waking up after the second night I wish I had restuffed them because it compressed further.
That tan Mystery Ranch pack is fuggin awesome. I need to get on that bandwagon. I was already pumped about their bags from Garand Thumb's video, but never pulled the trgger... I may just have to
Not yet! It is new in Winter 2022, but I see some camping websites are starting to list it for sale, so it should be available soon. Here is a review of the new pack: ruclips.net/video/UFAsCSgJD7A/видео.html
I tried sleeping on a foam pad not too long ago, and i must say that "sleeping pad" looks less than ideal, lol! If i was a backsleeper, i could probably deal with a foam pad just fine, but im not... Wish i could get a good nights sleep on it though, so i didnt have to worry about punctures in the inflateable pad...
Turn your sleeping bag inside out, the protective outer layer reduces the air exchange, so using the side out method, you will be able to compress the sleeping bag more :) Canada eh! :)
You guys are a hoot!! Both had good tips, y'all work so well with each other, and I loved this video! The only edge Dan might have, for me, is I'm a Midwestern girl myself, and Green Bay is my fav team! Otherwise, please do more together! Thanks!
What are your thoughts on the Tiger Wall UL2 non Mtn Glo vs the Mtn Glo version? Am considering the Mtn Glo version for the luxury/convenience for only 1 oz weight difference. Any downside to going with the Mtn Glo version in your opinions?
I've used only the Tiger Wall UL (non mtn glo) and the Copper Spur Mtn Glo. Before I used it I thought the included lights was a gimmick. But I actually really like the feature and use it a lot, very pleasant ambient lighting. If that sounds good to you then go with the Mtn Glo. Good luck!
@@BackpackingTV Nice that is where where moms side of the family is from I love it up there, haven't been there in 15 years, planning on making a trip up there maybe, im just getting into backpacking and you Dan and the schil brothers helped me alot on what gear to get but unfortunately I have to go the cheapest route which doesn't always mean light or durable! But as long as it gets me on the trails im satisfied! Thank you guys for what you do!
Very cool to see! I’ve enjoyed both of your channels, so this is cool to see. Does the new pack replace the TerraFrame 50? What scenarios would you choose the TerraFrame?
Terraframe has been my go to backpack. The Bridger is meant to offer features not available on the Terraframe. I will be comparing the Bridger with other top backpacks in the category: ruclips.net/video/UFAsCSgJD7A/видео.html
The MR Bridger is a new pack and scheduled to release in Winter 2022. I got one to test and review prior to its release. Check their website for release dates or you can sign up for a notice. www.mysteryranch.com/bridger-55-pack www.mysteryranch.com/bridger-65-pack
Water proof all your clothes including sleeping bag using canoe bags or plastic zip freezer bags , also if u have to do a river crossing your Bergen will act as a flotation aid . Last thing u need is a wet sleeping bag .
I haven't used altitude sickness medication in over a decade. If I'm at high altitude, I try to give myself time to acclimatize properly, which just mean I give myself time at high altitude before going on a mission.
how come in america we dont have to worry as much about viruses from random water sources? I understand water from a pool chemical standing. Once pool water goes without chlorine viruses can easily enter the pool. . .
In the beginning of the video you mention dan ripping into you and he seems like the kind of guy who's version of ripping into someone is telling them he hopes they feel the wind through their clothes on a cold day
They have so much stuff, that they need a huge pack with heavy-weight suspension. Not an ultralight setup, but all that weight will build character, for sure. LOL.
The video I never knew I wanted, but was always waiting for..
Haha the best endorsement!

Great to hear! I think you got great stuff glad you got it dialed in! Check out the review of the Bridger: ruclips.net/video/UFAsCSgJD7A/видео.html
I'm a Flextail Air Pump fan boy. Turned all my backpacking buddies onto it.
That Mystery Ranch harness setup is awesome!!

What's the product in Eric's hands at 9:08? I'm looking for something to put under my sleeping pad to help with punctures.
My hat's off to your camera person. They really did a good job.
The mini pump is a lifesaver. I bought mine several months ago after Dan raved about it and it's as advertised!
Loves watching two totally different setups. Great video guys
Thank you! Yeah we're pretty opposite!
@@BackpackingTV we need to get you some gear with your logo on it...
Fantastic! You guys are so enjoyable to watch. Learning your likes amd dislikes about the gear is invaluable. Keep them coming
with me being new to serious hiking/backpacking, y'all are both awesome to learn from!
Thank you very much! (Takes bow)
Two great dudes. Thanks for the video. Keep up the great work.
We'll keep going! Thank you!
I'm really digging the new format and pacing.
Great video. Thanks fir sharing your great experience.
Glad to hear it! ✌️
Two of my faves in one video. Love the Grayl. And yes. A water bladder is much better than saying can you get my water bottle.
Thanks Royce!
Do you remember what stretch of the Centennial you guys did? I live in the Black Hills and recently started backpacking. Looking for fun trips!

Whoa that's hard core! But there's natural insulation to be found. Good work!
@@BackpackingTV make no mistake. It's only as a backup to my Nemo Tensor Insulated wide pad lol.

I’m looking at Mystery Ranch backpacks. I’m torn between the Terraframe 65L and the Bridger 65L.
Which do you recommend?

It's a sweet pack for sure! I think you'd enjoy it.
Two of my favorites at one time , life is good
Thanks for watching!
Outstanding video very interesting. Dan’s water carry system was quite enlightening. Take Care
Thank you! Yeah I learned a lot from Dan.
Love these collaborations with Dan. So funny.
Loved the video!! I love all of Dan’s videos. Always so helpful and funny!!
He's a good'n!
That pump would be really handy when building a fire as well.
If bear cannister is required, how do pack with the bear can? Use a larger pack?
Great idea for a video! I'd love to see a collaboration with these two and some of the other popular hiking channels.
We can all be friends!
Is that pack on Mystery Ranch's website? I didnt see it on there. Looks interesting.

That foam pad was super weak but it's definitely not my normal! I just was a Gumby that night and forgot my mattress!!
I do like the multipurpose pasta/coffee cup of Dan's.

I got a question for you. Since you were a guide for many years, how many times did you use a Megamid while guiding
I bought the pump and they sent one for FREE!!! Thanks Dan!!!
Darn...this isn't the trip where Dan uses the Grayl water purification system? Was kind of looking forward to that.
This is where I got him to try it! But he has since done some other stuff with grayl so you'll have to stay tuned!

How cold a temp can you use a Grayl?
Like most filters/purifiers don't use them when they're frozen.
Interested to know the weight difference between the two of you
That's a bit of a personal question. I weigh about 170, not sure about Dan. ;)

Thanks Khamis!
This video was so educational. I love it. I am buying Dans air pump and your waterbottle and tent
Right on! Glad you found it helpful!
Man Dan really gave it to you on your gear
Haha 😆
Like how 2 different style
Dan fits 2 25" sleeping pads side by side in his tent. Would have been nice to loan you one instead of that thin mat. 🤣
I know. He refused. The man requires his luxuries.
In the beginning of the video you mention dan ripping into you and he seems like the kind of guy who's version of ripping into someone is telling them he hopes they feel the wind through their clothes on a cold day
Yeah Dan is far too pleasant of an individual.
Fun video and I also carrying dirty water with me too 👍😎
Glad you liked it!
Love you both but, as someone who worked for Oakley, for the love of God #DanBecker, flip those glasses right side up. SMH 😘
Haha, I wanted to do that for him a few times!
Who wants to carry and see nasty unfiltered water each time you drink it?
To each their own! I guess they don't filter water they don't drink though.
starting to think this is all about selling equipment, but appreciate the video
Looks heavy.
Pandemic has been tough for all of us in trying to lose that extra weight.
Your backpack has a bra built on it 😮😅😂
Why does the BeFree make me think of feminine hygiene appliances?
The world is full of mysteries
