Thanks Marty - I was always too intimidated to try to learn Bob Seger tunes. It always felt like I was running against the wind.
They can be hard. Like a rock...
You should stick to Old Time Rock and Roll. It is Still the Same in whatever key you play.
You can always just Turn the page and improvise it someway
@@EspoGTR yeah tried that but it’s like I lost all control.
My old girlfriend like me to play his songs for her. She had the fire down below. Man, I loved her strut. I'd always tell her to come to papa. Eventually she had to get out of Denver. I told her, we've got tonight, Jody girl, don't make me feel Ike a number. So we sat around smokin' o.p.'s. Next day she was gone. I hoped she'd wait for me. That turned me into a travelin' man. Now, looking back, as I'm makin' thunderbirds, and dreaming of fire lake, I can't help but put shame on the moon. Sad days guys 😔
Let's all take a moment and thank Marty for putting in work for us to learn songs!!!! Thanks Marty!
Yeah, I agree mate. You are a Legend Marty 👍👍
Marty is always my first stop. So glad he did this one!
Tried this song for ever. Then put the capo on the first fret. And magically it all sounded right. Good lesson.
Marty. You are one of the best guitar teachers out there. You demonstrate the song well and then break it down easily for everybody. Many other preople's videos are rushed, not played correctly at times, and their teaching methods are terrible. Thank you for your hard work.
This is Danny E Driggers country music song writer from Claxton Ga 30417 my home town you are real great at what you a lol of guys really depends on you Marty
Your beginner series is absolutely amazing! At 61, I have always wanted to learn guitar and now that I’m retired, I can finally devote the time and effort to do so. My guitar teacher highly recommended your series to supplement my weekly lesson. In less than three weeks I have learned so much and will continue to practice, develop and grow. Transitioning from chord to chord has definitely been my biggest challenge! Out of all the various instructors you are the best! Thank-You Marty!
Truly Marty, you are the Master with a great skill for teaching. Will have to watch it a few times but this is the best!
Just got my first guitar about 2 weeks ago, a bit late in life but wanted to finally learn. Your videos are incredible - I've gone through your beginner series, and I'm at the point where I'm trying to smooth out my C and F chords before moving on. Learned Wish You Were Here, and working on some others, all using your videos. Thank you so much!
I remember when I was at this point, those good old beginner days lol. Just keep going man and keep practicing! Get comfortable with your open chords first, learn how to switch between them and find them, and then try moving to barre chords as it really opens up the fretboard. Then I recommend soloing with the CAGED system, but just keep going man
Keep it up bro, been watching Marty and learning for about five years
I’m Not stage material but we have good times with it.
I am now 56 picked up the guitar during covid …..thanks to Marty I have made huge progress but you have to stick with it. Thanks Marty you are the best
Me too
I like how you said the D chord is played on the up-strum. That is one of many reasons why you are a great teacher.
Such a great song. Love that rhythm groove.
This was the song that made me want to learn how to play guitar many, many years ago. Great to see Marty breaking it down here. I only wish they had the internet when I was 12, lol!
Even better, you got it when you're 40(or whatever)
@@psylocybanana7276 thank god i got the internet when i was an adult, not a teenager! (Though the guitar lessons would have been nice.)
Man Marty you are my favorite RUclips guitar instructor
Gad zukes... I've been playing this wrong for years... lol I was missing the Add G on the C chord. Sounds amazing! Thanks again Marty!
Thank you for this lesson Marty! Such a great song, I love Bob Seger
Wow, I first heard this song 2 nights ago. Now I get to learn how to play it. Thanks Marty for the lesson!!
❤❤❤❤. Awesome 😎 love how you can slow it down step by step thank you Marty!!!
Marty you are without a doubt the easiest teacher to learn from. Thanks for all of it man
Been at your new channel since the beginning..also remember your humble beginnings too...how I missed this gem I don't know...Brilliantly taught..
Too easy!!!!!! Wouldn’t be this far without all your help!!!!! 5 mins and I was jamming along with the track! Thanks Marty!!!🤘🏼😎
Marty!!!! You just Rock!
Since the start of COVID, I purchased a beginner guitar, Fender F-Series, figured I'd teach my self finally how to play. Now up to a Takamine G Series!!!! Your videos have done me so much more, even an old dog like myself and drummer, (56), thank you, thank you thank you. You have made this journey so much fun and inspiring! Even have now a few of my own tunes I've put together! Keep us Rockin' Marty!
Steve
I swear you’ve made a video on every song I’ve ever needed
Marty is the best online teacher
We need against the wind! Thanks for the great lessons Marty!
thanks marty becuz of your channel in alil less than a year i went from buying a guitar and playing again after stopping a decade ago... and now im able to busk and play small bar gigs.. theres power in using song learning as a way to progress.. and as time passes your kinda turn into a human juke box and everyone picks up the guitar for the first time cuz they wanna play a song on it... motivation as little as that can teach you how to play.. keep on living the dream buddy :)
Thanks! Great one, reminds me of a girl who was at the Senior Skip Day '83 kegger jam session I mentioned in another comment! You kinda remind me of a neighbor of mine from the same timeframe. Joel's parties were always a mix of Animal House and that Metallica 'Whiskey in the Jar' video! Great times!
This one has a catchy strum sound for sure
Thank you so much, Marty! I always wanted to learn how to play this song. Its one of my favorites.
Marty you’re the man I just watched a how to play squeeze box with Keith urban and I’m not even convinced he can actually play it. Thanks for being awesome bro!
Was struggling with the chorus strumming pattern for awhile. Thanks!
Damn Marty... bringing back childhood memories. Bob Seger was my first concert way back in 1980 when I was 13 years old- Cobo Arena in Detroit (was there one of the nights they were recording for the Live Bullet album). Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels opened. I got Mitch's autograph and also David Teegarden's.
Thank you so much for the taking the time out of your day to make these lessons, it has really helped my mental health by you teaching these lessons, please keep doing what your doing because your making alot of people better people and that is including me🙏❤
I've always thought this was one of the greatest songs. Thanks Marty !!!!!
Keep banging them out Marty, this Seger track is classic.
Marty. I've watched 5 or 6 other teachers do this one on YT as I'm trying to add it to my small repertoire (slightly advanced beginner) and you by fat do the best job of anyone teaching this one. You really exude the groove and feel of it - like Bob Seager does on the original production. Congratulations and thank you. Question: why do you remove your fingers from the fretboard slightly during the muted strums? Great job and thank you. You nailed this one....
Hey Marty, thanks for the Night Moves guitar lesson. Appreciated!!! Brings back a lot of memories.
Marty: You have been my guitar teacher for 10 years . . . and I cannot say how much I truly appreciate you and what you do. I began playing at 44 years old and have had so much joy realizing my dream of playing the guitar. Thank you.
This is so cool! I finally watched a lesson that you posted the same day! Crazy! Thanks Marty, been learning from you for a while now. You're the best teacher dude :)))
Great tutorial Marty! Bob is a living legend
Excellent video, easy to follow. Will take lots of practice to get the rhythm down pat, but Marty explains it well. Thanks Marty.
Marty is the best “Go To Guy” for guitar tutorials…! Any
chance we could see Bob Seger’s “Shame On The Moon” / “Blame On Midnight”…?
A great song and would be fitting for your tutorial list! 🎸 e
Thanks Marty, I owe you all the credit for teaching me over the years.
Way to go Marty. Love Bob Seger…..and Love the song.
You’re the man Marty…thank you!
Awesome tutorial. Thanks!!
Just wanna thank you for your excellent guitar lessons learned many songs because of you waiting for more guitar lessons...
One of my favorite songs from bob.
Marty gives me chills every time…
Great lesson Marty. Great song. yt presesnted your interview with Ed King the other night. Was excellent.
Cool, thanks!
Hey Marty would you be able to do a video explaining how to write riffs and what idea you need to get your head around first? Love the videos recently you’ve been on fire!!
You’re great marty! Thank you and keep at it
Another great, easy to understand lesson….so important sir!
I have always wanted to be able to play this since hearing it so recently I bought the sheet music (I have played piano for a loooong time now so find it easier sometimes but not in this case. Another excellent tuition bud. Cheers 🥃 from Scotland 🏴. You keep making them , I’ll keep watching
Love the lessons!! I don't know how this is going to sound on my Strat, but I'll try it.
One of my absolute favorite Bob Segar songs!!! I always thought this song would be damn near impossible to learn!!! Thank you for this video, which makes it look very manageable!!! Next do "Like A Rock"
Marty, thank you for this song! In the beginning of the song do you have more videos that go into depth on your technique for muting the strings? From 2:51 to 5:02
Awesome tutorial Marty, need to do support baby now...
Your teaching me alot of stuff....thankyou
Best Bob Seger song ever, been playing this one for years =)
I'm already working on the song for a while now and I'm starting to get along. And I'm going to keep on practicing for tomorrow.
Excellent song and tutorial from a master: thanks for the pointers Marty, they’re sitting way up high
Marty, the original and best
thanks Marty!! this is one of the tunes that inspired me to pick up a guitar in 1995! back then the song books (that cost ~25 bucks) would never show the capo, and it threw me for a loop whenever i tried to play to the recording! I also didn't know the details on the bass notes and stuff like you demonstrated, but makes so much sense now vs the bastardized way i played it for years!! your strumming pattern is helpful as well. i can't wait to "re-learn" this one. sounds just beautiful on a gibson too. - oh quick question does anyone know how that walk down comes in after the bridge and it goes to that opening lick?
Hi Marty! I want to ask you could you do "Oh me" by meat puppets and nirvana? You're incredible!
Love this request
Hell yea
Please do this one Marty. Lol please
Yessss!!!!
You're the man Marty!!!
If you don’t have your F nailed yet playing this open with straight full chords. G-F-C C-F-G is pretty great practice and it still sounds like the song. Just play at whatever speed you can. Worked for me anyway.
Great lesson.
Dammit !! Finally an easy chord change / progression and it’s got a bastard of a strum pattern
This is Amazing
Been looking forward to this song for a long while! Thanks Marty!
Thank you so much for doing this, Marty. You have helped me immensely.
Hey Marty great video been watching your videos for three years now and I would love if you would do Whiskey River Willie Nelson
Ohhhhh. Always providing quality. I just have one request; Morning Dew by Matt Quentin.
As Always ,Thanks Marty,✌️💛😁🎵
Randomly searched for this and turns out you just posted it, how cool!! XD
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Wow man, great lesson, as usual! Greetings from Brazil!
Love this song, it reminds me of my youth.
What a tune! I was looking for a Marty tutorial for this a while back and was surprised you didn’t have one haha thanks for this man
Nice little tune. I may have a little problem with the upstrokes and I can't mute the strings to save my life, but I'll certainly give it a go. 😎🎸🎸
Thank you, Marty
Oh my god I've been waiting so long for this guitar tutorial to come out
Amazing song and great lesson. Thanks.
If you're in any doubt of Marty's skill and quality, look at other tutorials for this song. There's nothing wrong with the others, and they are very good, and have my respect, but this is in a league of it's own.
Brilliant choice 🎶🎸
Hi Marty thank you so much for teaching me guitar. I love the way you teach its super easy to follow. I have a question.
In What order and Which of your guitar courses do you reccomend after I have studied your beginner lessons and the free courses on your website. I'm a little lost on where to go next. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
So I literally just started playing guitar like a month ago... My guitar teacher and I are messing around with Simon & Garfunkel's "Sounds of Silence" -- he's teaching me a *VERY* simplified version, wherein you go from Em to D to Em to C. I was practicing it and accidentally played a C Maj 7 instead of a C, then immediately corrected myself and played the C. Which is exactly how Bob Seger's "Still the Same" begins. So that sent me down a rabbit hole of Bob Seger tunes. So after messing with "Still the Same" for a bit, I remembered "Night Moves" and how awesome that sounds on an acoustic guitar And a quick search brought me here. 🙂
Guess what I'll be doing for the next hour or two. 😉
Ok, maybe just an hour. LOL. My fingers aren't tough enough to play for more than that yet. 🙂
Oh my god I’ve never clicked on a video quicker. Thank you Marty!
Love it can request Turn the Page tutorial and chords
probably one of the hardest songs too teach. the song has a certain strum pattern that can be very tricky for most players.
Could you do “hell above” by pierce the veil, some day? That’s the first song i wanted to play once I got a guitar. 11 years later at 21 years old I finally got one 😂 I’ve learned 2 songs so far by watching your videos! You’re awesome. Thank you Marty 🙌🏽
Seriously great lesson dude!
Thanks Marty
Such a classic tune. 👌
enjoyed your tutorial.sir, really thanks a lot for the lesson.
Such a beautiful intro.
Great lesson, great song!
Hey Marty I love your videos and I use them to help me learn most songs but can you do a tutorial for wipeout?
Workin and practicing
Looking forward to this one for a bit
I started learning this song 30 minutes to an hour ago and I can pretty much play half of the song 😂 thanks Marty!
hahahah, LOVE it
this was the song I learned to overcome my irrational fear of the dreaded F chord as a beginner.
this song and "It's only love" by Bryan Adams
